Hi Ron, here in the UK most of our roofs are slate or tile and very few are shingles, we also seem to have the highest rat of shady characters who don’t know what they are doing and often don’t even finish the job. I have watched a lot of TH-camrs who have good ratings and a high subscription count and although I have shingled a couple of shed roofs, I am the first to admit that I (in my ignorance) did not do the job correctly (no aluminium drip edge), but in my defence they were only sheds to hold garden implements and they have held up well.

Many contractors won’t call you back if you ask too many questions about training, certification, licensing, insurance, bonding. They’re afraid you’ll go after them for the small stuff. If they do quote, they’ll add a $ buffer for the headaches.

Well, then ask all the questions after you get the quote :)

@@3pumpkins170 yeah, ive had them withdraw the quote or leave the job. Pity the poor fools that hire these clowns.

Now that most insurance companies require roof replacement in 20 years, like Florida insurance companies do, paying extra for additional longevity is probably redundent IMO.
