  • Of all the inexpensive wood (twig, stick) stoves I have tested this appears to be the best value and most versatile one I have found so far
    NOTE: I have updated the links below as demand has outstripped supply from the original sellers. Please note that the Aliexpress link states titanium but is stainless steel. Apparently, prices have been going up since this video was released. Go figure

    Hi folks, Two things. It has been pointed out to me that I quote the stove measurements in millimeters instead of centimeters. Thank you for that. Second, it appears the link I supplied to purchase the stove is out of stock. If you are interested I am sure you can find the same stove on numerous sites. Please note, as I mentioned in the video, there was no brand associated with this stove and no marking on this stove at all. Also, I some of the postings say titanium but of you read further down they are stainless steel. NOTE: I have updated the links in the video description as demand has outstripped supply from the original sellers. Please note that the Aliexpress link states titanium but is stainless steel. I received this stove via Ali Express and have used it several times. I've been using it mostly as a mini-fire pit, little cooking and boiling water. I plan to use it more as a mini-grill with charcoal, just waiting for a grill grate that I ordered from Amazon. I have about four or five other stoves, but this is one of my favorites. I like the versatility and pack ability of it and it is the biggest overall stove I own. It appears that it will hold up very well as I really don't see much in the way of warping. Thanks!

    Hi Mark. those huge scalloped openings at the top of each of the four sides should be great for the fire box. I had to drill holes in my Emberlit (which I love) to make the air flow at the top be enough to not dampen the flames and create a lot of smoke once I place a pot on the crossbars. Another great vid! • @MrFmiller
    @MrFmiller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the assembled design. Although it seems a bit complicated to set up I imagine after a few times it becomes easier.
    It seems to go through wood fairly fast. It’s easy enough to keep an adequate supply prepared and after it’s going even damp sticks will catch.
    I like my Docooler gasifier that disassembles in half like a Lixada but has a solid top with the cutout to feed the chamber like a Solo. Once they’re hot larger damp pieces don’t put them out as easily as long as it’s not excessively wet and not fed too fast. They burn for a bit longer at a higher temperature due to the efficiency of the gasification. I keep a pot of water on at camp for coffee and washing. The down side is they are a bit heavier.
    I’ve used front loading box stoves before, not this one but similar. Once there is a good bed of coals in the bottom they perform fairly well.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also like my wood gas stove. I have the Lixada. The pros for the wood gas are easy assembly and clean/efficient burning once it gets going. The downside is bulk/weight and the need to process wood to a small size. The collapsible stoves take a bit more work to set up but they are more compact/light weight and longer pieces of wood can be used in them. I see them as different stoves for different applications. Hi Mark, another good review I see.
    My personal take on these SMALL stoves is they obviously take TOO small wood for my personal liking & they got TOO good airflow which means they burn through the SMALL wood so darn fast & you gotta be putting wood in em ALOT to keep a good heat !!
    But that's just MY personal opinion on these small stoves.
    👍😎

    Hi Mark, just an update on my budget stove. I have had about 25 plus burns in my stove. The sides have warped a little, but the most warping is on the bottom burn plate and has warped quite a bit, even though I have tried reversing a couple of times. It will no longer lay flat. However, this has really still not effected how it works or functions or fits together. I have been mostly used wood, but sometimes I have used charcoal. I bought a 7.48 inch grill plate that I was using as a grill, which works very well for 3 burgers. It all fits in the same case. Bottom line, for the price it works very well. I recently purchased the Firebox stove, so not using this budget stove much now.

    I bought one last week from Amazon with same pouch, a stainless round alcohol or Esbit bowl, and a stainless steel collapsible Bellow tube for all for @$10. Unfortunately, it only stays together upside down with burner plate on top, as notches are too short and face the wrong direction to function with burner plate on bottom. I may use some roof flashing $.40 to improve design. Cheers

    Perhaps if placed upside down it could be used as a grill? Just trying to work out why you would want to flip it upside down. Absolutely love the detail in your videos! Great job!

    • @Badger77722
      @Badger77722 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grilling would seem a legitimate option if you flip it upside down. If you're using wood, the fire would now be below the grill plate. Nice idea!
      Another reason might be to allow more options for the height of the grill plate. Assembled right-side up, the grill has 3 options of its distance, when measured from the bottom of the stove. Flip the stove over, and I'll bet you now have 3 completely different distances from the bottom of the stove to the grill plate. As long as the stove is still stable in the upside-down format, you've got 6 options for distance of the grill plate, so you may find something that's just the right height for your needs.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft

      Yes, using it upside down to grill may be a good option. Thanks for commenting

    A quick follow-up Mark. I rec'd my Aliexpress version in the mail yesterday. It is extremely light - 82g or 2.9oz (without the case). That officially makes it the lightest option in my stove arsenal! Is it Titanium as they stated? I can't say for sure... there appears to be a third animal floating around... something called 'Titanium coated steel' which really muddies the water. Anyway, my tests shows it is absolutely non-magnetic. I've read that stainless steel may or may not be depending on it's crystalline structure - how does your fair with a magnet? I may take a grinder to a small section to see what colour sparks it produces. Apparently there's a significant difference between the two metals.

    • @Badger77722
      @Badger77722 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw that listing on Aliexpress and wondered about that "Titanium coated steel" as well. I think they're hoping that if they can put "Titanium" anywhere in the description that people won't read carefully and will be fooled into thinking it's made of titanium, rather than just coated. I'd rather it be the other way, where they make sure you know it's made of SS but note that it's coated in Ti for corrosion resistance (not that SS isn't fairly resistant, anyway).

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting Paul. The weight would suggest Ti. Would be good to hear how it stands up to a few burns. I have a new stove I am testing that is supposed to made from a titanium-stainless steel allow. I had not hear of that and am looking to confirm that it is. Let me know what you find out

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. That is why I posted for people to be aware of the claims. Now I am getting interested in trying a ti coated stove or one that claims to be made from Ti

    Great video as always, Mark! This little stove looked interesting enough that I started looking online for it, but the links all had much higher prices than I was expecting (a lot higher than my Lixada hinged stove, for example). I know others have commented on problems finding it at a reasonable price, too. I finally found it on Amazon for about the same price as the Lixada, so I went ahead and ordered it, now waiting (impatiently!) for it to arrive. Here is the link to the Amazon listing I found: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082F51ZLZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    Oops, never mind. I just looked on AliExpress this morning and they've got several new listings for the stove that are as good or better than the Amazon link I listed.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would appear my video may have caused a run on the stove and a price increase. Go figure. I know I am not getting anything from it😆. It does take some searching to find a good price for it so I am glad you were able to do so. I will add your link to the video description. Thanks
