All are saying about lack of personality in Yana's routine.. But that's what differs her from others. When she performs routine, she's not Yana, she is an artist and she gets completely diffused in her routine in combination with music. When I watch her routines I always see whole picture, not music and gymnast as distinct objects
I really like the Russian Favourites (Yana, Mamun, Soldatova, Averina Twins) but I rather watch more expressive ones like Halkina (BLR) or Salome (GEO)
"Zhenya and Yana are the victims of their nice, angelic personalities." Being sensual and "fierce" isn't equal to projection and expression. In this routine of course those two things are needed because of the music but the choreography (dance) itself is expressive so she doesn't need to over do it. I will agree that in some moments the routine was slow and looked as if the music was just in the background and that's where she could have played it better, but I feel like that is just a cheap way to sell the routine. I rather have them fix the choreography. Last thing I want to see is Yana becoming like the American figure skater Ashley Wagner who only seems to do the same sensual moves in every routine and gets high scores on presentation.
Been watching her since 2013. Unfortunately up till now i am still not captured by her routine. Yes she is very clean in her execution not to mention the difficulty. But unlike zhenya, who has high technical difficulty and superb execution, zhenya has that passion, that emotion in her routine which really captured my heart. Zhenya was the one that made me like rhythmic gymnastics. Yana has the skills and mastery, but she lacks maturity in her routine. Rita however, has slowly captured my heart with her routine this year. Her routine has grown to be very mature.
dmazrianah "she lacks maturity in her routine" speak for yourself. yana initiated my love affair with rg, and even then it is mostly confined to her routines. I can and do watch them over and over again, I am definitely guilty of abusing the replay button
+dmazrianah I am sorry, but let me disagree with you. Yana is elegant, graceful and so damn lean that makes you want ask yourself if she's a human being or what?! Unlike Zhenya, she was great, but she didn't enjoy and didn't transmitted absolutely nothing, with her dull face. She ROBBED BESSONOVA, it was the robbery of the century!
Excuse me, but i don't think you have seen enough zhenya's performances or interviews, when she talks about rhythmic gymnastics she's passionate and there's always a sparkle in her eyes, she really transmit her love for rg and her smiles are truthful. While Yana's face is always cold and blank, when i first watched the documentary about rg i thought she hated doing it,because she seems so sad, like she is forced to do it . Obviously she has a good technique but there's no passion or love, it seems like she is all about the score instead of enjoying it.
Exactly. Not worth my time to reply someone who doesn't even know zhenya and couldn't differentiate between routines with expression emotions and passion. Instead of talking about these essential things, she talked about how lean ones body is. pffft...
I like the choreo, I like the music and Yana executes it well. It's just that every year I try to like her, to understand why everybody is so fanatic about her and I just fail. I don't see it. Yes, she's amazing technically and super consistent. But I find her lacking in projection and expression so much and I also haven't seen any growth in this part of her routines over the last years. To me, she doesn't show that she's gained maturity. To put it short: Kudryavtseva just doesn't make me feel the routines. Where is her personality? It feels so drained of passion.
Can you recommend me some contemporary gymnasts who excel in projection and expression (not trying to be snarky, I'm just curious). I'm a casual viewer (I watch FS and ice dancing much more than RG) and to my untrained eyes, the current level of RG makes it almost impossible to be both technical clean, super consistent and artistically expressive. But then I feel the same way about Zhenya: I'm always spellbound by her level of difficulty and clean execution but that feeling disappears very quickly.IMO, both Zhenya and Yana are the victims of their nice, angelic personalities.
True, one aspect usually gets the downside. It's my personal taste that I cannot forgive a gymnast if the expression is the one which isn't really there. I don't need consistency, I like the excitement and the thrill :D. I totally get that feeling about Zhenya! But then with her, there was more drama to it, it made me feel more excited cause it always seemed to be a battle for her :D. She never seemed content, alway wanting to improve while Yana's more...blank, I'm afraid. I find Mamum is really progressing with expression AND technical skill AND consistency. I loved Maksymenko, but she retired a year ago. Both Mamun and Maksymenko had a problem with consistency. But I truly believe that Mamun can still go all the away and really be that one superb gymnast. Pazhava excites me, too. Very unique. But in the end I agree: at the moment there's none which 'has it all', but that may change!
That is ur personal opinion.. But for the judges.. She is perfect in ejecution , difficulty and technical.. That is the important in the sport.. The gymnasts are not clowns !!
Manuel Olivares Well no, at this tournament she wasn't perfect at all. She hasn't won a single gold medal and I'm sorry about that. Of course it's my personal opinion, what else would it be? A hat? Lighten up...
Mrl Please tell me you and Le aren't Americans because I hate the same American argument all the time. "No passion, no selling the routine, blahblahblah...." "Zhenya and Yana are the victims of their nice, angelic personalities." Being sensual and "fierce" isn't equal to projection and expression.
Oh thank you for sharing!! I agree with your comments. But for me Yana is just too young. She grew up physically and presents new routines at the beginning of 2015. She will be more expressive later. J’ai du mal avec l’Anglais je trouve.
I have yet to see anyone as synchronized to the music as her routines.

Yana, always in my heart, the best ever!
NICE START : D ..Beautiful routine !!
It reminds of Kanaveva's ribbon routine in 2010.
It's like watching a butterfly. She takes the sport to a new level.
she looks so different from last year and so different style but I love this routine
So different from last year. Love the music!

Same here! So excited to see which one will take the lead during this season!

Please go back to classicism. That's Yana's strength.
