thanks for reply mcb. I'm actually one of the biggest new-build F-16 fans on net. I was one of those F16XL cheerleaders in fact. I've been extremely critical of USAF for not pursuing stopgap new-build buys going back say to FY08 even, let alone since more recently. USAF could arguably use a couple hundred low-hour fully operational capable modern variant F-16s right about now. That said, one could hope a new-build Block 70 F-16 would not require too many spares and high maintenance within it's first 3-4 operational years at least. My basic outlook and view of the Gripen E overall however is very positive. And it's core engine used is not necessarily from Mars. I personally feel it's too early to really evaluate the E version vs a brand new Block 70, but I'll remain very pro-Gripen E for any potential AF acquiring it or evaluating it in the meanwhile. One particular asymmetrical strength it would seem to for one thing, would be it's greater potential for more austere airstrip and roadway operations, especially given it's small footprint. And ability for more remote austere operations is probably one of the underrated assets today, imho.
@@sevedbaathus Militaries all over Europe and the US have plans for this, why do you think there are mobile aircraft refueling units in armies...the US does training exercises on public roads and I'm sure NATO countries do too.
Last week F/A-18 Hornets, Pilatus PC-12s and BAe Hawks did the same thing in Finland as part of a yearly highway flight operations exercise. It's not really a special feature.
The US has the capability to land C-130 tankers to refuel aircraft as they're being rearmed on public roads to be as close to the front line as possible.
SAAB and Boeing are building Red Hawk T - 7 for the USAF as the new advanced trainer, so SAAB did better than the Franco German Alpha Jet that never cracked the US market.
As a proud American and military aviation fan, I can’t wait for y’all to join NATO. Gripen may not be a stealth plane, but it’s got turnaround time the Lightning II can’t hope to beat, and when you live close to rowdy neighbors, there’s no understating how important that is. There’s so much we can learn from each other.
The Gripen can use so many weapons not just Swedish and it integrates them quickly. It was the first to commission Meteor years before Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon. SAAB produce the new T 7 Red Hawk jet for the US ( in partnership with Boeing). A perfect aircraft for Ukraine as it is designed for Road Use and as I said can launch numerous weapons from many nations.
@@charlesviii3456 It's cheaper than Rafale, $115m v 250m so is Rafale worth the difference and it costs less per flight hour and the weapons choice is bigger. Gripen is a desperate program, and the last that Saab will develop alone (even thought they didn't really developed the Gripen alone).
would love to see SAAB team-up with a Norwegian ship-builder to build say, a 1,000m long barge with an obscure flat deck complete with an odd little ski-jump at the end attached to the top for some unknown reasons ??? ✌🌐
What for though? neither of them goes around the world to "project power". their likely threat falls within the combat radius of their existing assets.
@@the80386 - I hear you. However, ponder Sea-basing perhaps as a mere strategic force-multiplier effect, even if only deployed for presence? Consider perhaps floating around somewhere on a goodwill tour between U.K. and Norway in support of stability? Sailing around off-shore between Sweden / Norway? Or a month long deployment circling say, Gotland for good measure ??
Every single non invading country has an armed force literally for this reason, Its a sign to enemies that invasion would not be worth it, its a way to scare enemies into never attacking
a fair point, indeed, but unfortunately there are in fact clearly certain major bullying imperial powers today with unknown geostrategic endgame plans who call out such smaller nations merely trying to deter against any such potential invasion as a provocative threat in itself, hence justifying said preemptive strategic invasion !
So much fuzz on different combat channels on youtube that talks about "dog fighting capabilities". With the Gripen E, Dogfight doesn't exist. Targets out of visual range is already done for as soon as that Missile gets launched. What a Beauty in the sky this plane is, cant stress that enough
Gripen E is not to bad in that area either. Very good radar and more to detect aircrafts beyond visual range. Hardest non-stealth fighter jet to detect due to very small RCS. Top notch counter measures to give survival chances from enemy missiles. That paired with a very low cost of operations to provide lots of training to get the best pilots makes it a very good aircraft in it's category. What Gripen lacks badly is some proven track record in real combat. Send some Gripen C fighters to Ukraine to fix that issue 😱
@@Rohan4711 The Gripen's RCS is, in general, not as low/good as that of 4.5G fighters like the F/A-18E/F and the KF-21. So, no, the Gripen is not the "hardest non-stealth fighter jet to detect".
@@turnnburn6892 Comparing RCS is tricky as it is not just one value. It varies a lot depending on the angle you measure from and also worsens a lot when adding external loads. Most numbers are without external loads. Gripen E has lower than Super hornet from front but worse from side due to a straight tail fin. When going into combat small RCS from front is much more important. Super hornets typically want Growler support for jamming missiles, while Gripen E relies on its own EV suit (including wingman). Again hard to compare objectively. I would personally feel safer in the Gripen E.
@@Hollycalvey Brazil is planning to purchase 30 additional Gripen E. The unit cost is said to be 60 million $, there is no official cost for the Gripen E available at the moment though it is said to be 85 million per unit. Though they have the capability to manufacture the gripens in brazil now which probably lowered the expected purchase price. The Finnish contract for 64 F-35A was 83 million per unit and for Switzerland 112 million per unit for 36 F-35A. And 4000 - 8000 $ per flighthour vs 33 000 - 45000 $ per flighthour. And about 200 to 400 flighthours per year for each jet is 800k to 1.6 mil $ for the Gripen and 6.6 mil $ to 18.99 mil $ for the F-35. 10 years of operating each aircraft. Gripen 8 - 16 million $ F-35 66 - 189,9 million $. The Gripen is Gen 4,5 and the F-35 is Gen 5. They dont have the same capabilities, so of course the F-35 is more futureproof. But not every airforce can replace all their old jets with F-35s, and thats where the Gripen comes in. Its still a very capable jet.
@@MegaEssin oh it’s definitely very capable but for a developed nation that is close to/within NATO there is little point in adopting gripens right now, fair enough for Brazil but it’s not wrong to say the aircraft has been an unfortunate flop
Considering the changing world situation, that might actually be a growing number. I foresee more countries pursuing a low-high mix to expand their airforces size and capability while limiting budget.

@@donkoh5738 The major benefit the F-16V has over the the gripen is nothing to do with performance. There are just way more extra parts on the international market. Would you rather buy a computer/car engine with a 20% higher performance at great price but with only store in the whole world who supplies it or from a company where there are branches in every country ect and has been around for 40+ years.
The best non stealth fighter in the world?
lol what?
Seriously?
So, what, jets like the F-15SA/QA/EX, F-16E/F Block 60, F-16V Block 70/72, F/A-18E/F Block 2/3, Eurofighter Tranche 4, Rafale F3-R/F4, and J-10C..., are all harmless little Cessnas to you?
Several MoDs/Air Forces and basic common sense disagree with you pal. The Gripen is not the best non stealth jet in the world.
thanks for reply mcb.
WOW ! This is a Very good (beautiful) airplane! I love it! :) I'm from Hungary
Can i buy it on amazon?
no its actually only on alibaba right now.
No, just at your lokal SAAB dealer....
This seems really nice, I will take one, but how long will it take me to assemble it out of the box? 😜
You can get it at your nearest IKEA
That depends on howe many IKEA packages you have bought and assembled in your days....
You may want to order the additional assembly service, they charge around 100$/day per conscript
The only fact that it can land on a highway is freaking amazing
All fighter jets can land on public roads and all countries have contingency plans for that if necessary.

Thailand will buy them! We're in Brazil and Sweden

It seems crazy the Gripen hasn't been more successful on the export market.
The F-35 is superior in most regards and takes many potential buyers
@@Ze_Rocky Massive amarican Lobying and the owerflowing access to spare parts gives the F-35 most of its sell power. not necessarily it's performance.

It's cool and uniquely beautiful. from Thailand.🥰
Nobody wants Gripen, and Brazil is gonna hate.
@@charlesviii3456 It's cheaper than Rafale, $115m v 250m so is Rafale worth the difference and it costs less per flight hour and the weapons choice is bigger. Brazil got a full technology transfer so can build and sell it to other countries. Definitely the choice is not simple and Ukraine would choose Gripen every time due to its roadside dispersal possiblity.
@@charlesviii3456Brazil wants to buy, build and sell Gripen E. Thailand prefers Gripen E to the competent F16 Block 70 and is about to ink a contract soon.
@@NATObait Rafale F4's cells is about $100m Gripen E roughly $85m, you just have no idea what a contract price is about. Yeah full ToT ... IoI

- Thailand : 12 units (new batch contract not inked yet)
- Brazil : 36 units

-Czech Republic : 14
-Hungary : 14
Rafale just passed the 300 units exported and have a market projection of 300+ units until 2035 with the only diplomatic force of France alone (about to ink a contract with Indian navy for 26 Rafale M, it's a real prowess).
Gripen is a desperate program, and the last that Saab will develop alone (even thought they didn't really developed the Gripen alone).
No doubt it's a badass jet (one of my favourites, in fact) but is rear visibility not excellent because it's not a bubble canopy?
would love to see SAAB team-up with a Norwegian ship-builder to build say, a 1,000m long barge with an obscure flat deck complete with an odd little ski-jump at the end attached to the top for some unknown reasons ???
@@donkoh5738 That seems like a lot of money just for pictures and handshakes
Every single non invading country has an armed force literally for this reason,
Its a sign to enemies that invasion would not be worth it, its a way to scare enemies into never attacking
a fair point, indeed, but unfortunately there are in fact clearly certain major bullying imperial powers today with unknown geostrategic endgame plans who call out such smaller nations merely trying to deter against any such potential invasion as a provocative threat in itself, hence justifying said preemptive strategic invasion !

@@Rohan4711
The Gripen's RCS is, in general, not as low/good as that of 4.5G fighters like the F/A-18E/F and the KF-21.
Canada should have a hundred of these badass planes as its main air defence fighters… END OF STORY!
But the F-35 is cheaper and better lol. There’s a reason not a single gripen has been sold in 8 years
@@Hollycalvey really how about all the ones Argentina has already acquired?
@@brentstarkes9682 Argentina don’t use gripens lmfao what are you talking about
@@Hollycalvey Brazil is planning to purchase 30 additional Gripen E.
Nice! Hur många såna har vi då?

Great jet, I think it makes more sense for Canada than the F35, but alas we chose the F35 I’m sure due to politics rather than it’s suitability.
I like the Gripen i just wonder who is left to buy it :(
Considering the changing world situation, that might actually be a growing number. I foresee more countries pursuing a low-high mix to expand their airforces size and capability while limiting budget.
I was really hoping for our Czech Air Force to continue it's great experince with legacy Gripens by getting the E. We're buying F-35s instead, but I wish the Gripen many other customers - I think it deserves them.
Here in Austria we also had great experience with previous Saab Jets (up until the Draken). We almost got Gripens to replace the old Draken, but then some "Lobbying shenanigans" (read "corruption") got us expensive Typhoons instead.
