Love it! "Hustle our work while where at the other person's show." And loved the story by the artist about the recycled canvas. You always entertain while educate.
THANK YOU, KATE!!!! Love the work and the words of the man. Chris's comments at the end - pillowcases and peace - make the heart sing. The simplicity and rugged joy that comes through the canvases are thrilling. KEEP ON KEEPIN ON.
Having been watching Sotheby's live online auctions recently, I have to say the price of works is both shocking and interesting. Maybe it'd be nice to hear the prices of work ( particularly when viewed years later). P.S. could you thanks Kate.
I’m glad he doesn’t . Not that it is of no interest. But watching some of these videos I’ve almost forgotten (momentarily) the commodity aspect of art-making and I must admit it is a pleasant respite. Not to bash your suggestion…
@Christian Rokicki absolutely understand. In some ways the works on show already speak of money because they are selected and curated in expensive exhibition spaces. The paintings value is understated but presumed. Watching the Sotherby's auctions made me think that some elaborate form of money transfer engineering was going on and art was the token ( thinks of the price of artwork by Hunter Biden for example). Then for other works the price shows whats hot, which works people are betting on and which are slipping back. Agree price is another conversation and may intrude. Maybe its possible for the price to appear as a subtitle to the video so could be turned off for those who find such irrelevant of intrusive. Whatever, totally understand what you’re saying and adds labor to the production of videos.
@@christianrokicki in reality I guess prices are fluid. If your name is Charles Saatchi you likely get it at a huge discount, a listing of a sale on the artists c.v. may pass as payment.
@@TobermoryCat with art especially. it is the ultimate fetish object. of course: if saatchi ( or someone) buys something it then adds to the 'imaginary' value of the artist's work. even the shittiest collage.
Reminds me of kinda a "hipster Paul Klee.."... forgettablly Glitzy line? And then the rat issues of vomit and piss on canvas! In suspended concrete 🌈. My other question is about the fate of Leslie Shows, who was once featured at SFMOMA.
"Reminds me of kinda a "hipster Paul Klee.."... forgettablly Glitzy line?" If it was a "forgettablly Glitzy line" you wouldn't have remembered it long enough to comment on it...just sayin'...JK
What's the deal with the masks? Did you notice nobody makes consumable commercial product with "face coverings?" There's none in the sappy Daniel Craig forwell flick. Thanks for the real talk, calm man!
This work is not good at all, and judging by the conversation, Mr. Johnson himself is not into it either. Thank you James for your effort getting out there though!
@@christianrokicki I mean- he can make whatever he wants to make, that's nice, but using "recycled" canvas seems to be his major claim, and that really has nothing to do with making a good painting. The Cub Scouts recycle stuff too.
Nice URL

Chris Johanson is absolutely hilarious!!!! Excellent Artist! Thanks, JK & KATE!

@Isle of… yeah, naively went to gallery site thinking there might be prices listed… but I guess an enquiry is necessary.

@Jay Sharp yes, thank you
I don’t kind of like the marbly ones… but the rest I don’t care for either. Are nice paintings.
Nice paintings say no one can.
