I am not a student in the traditional sense, but I work and write and communicate constantly. This series is REALLY helpful! I can see and use applications in my job with almost every episode. (The resume episode helped me with my children's needs!)

Jonathan Hadith (a social psychologists) have a great answer for your exact question in his book called "The Righteous Mind". Using many of social, anthropology and psychology research, he concluded that conservatism and liberalism are natural phenomenon that each has its own function in the thrives of a society.
