    I have the 2019 and the 2023. I find both to me major butterscotch bombs. I have heard that the 2024 is off profile. Great review of my namesake whiskey!

    Just revisited my 2024 Shenk’s. It definitely has an acrid palate despite a nice nose. It is “unique” however not something i would reach for on a daily basis. I can see how it can be unpleasant for most people but i do enjoy the nuance.

      @@benpacheco243 yeah…. Went back to it the other night…. It isn’t bad…. It just isn’t worthy of the elevated price tag… it is just ok…. And at $125…. I don’t want just ok

    I gave it time to open up and it got much better. I happened to like this bottle now, mainly because it gives me different flavors than the standard whiskey.

      @@lesscashmoremashI am shocked how many whiskeys open up and improve over time. Almost makes me a believer in the “neck pour”.

    I don't know man - the more stuff I try, the more I gravitate back to the Michter's limited releases. I used to be a major proof hound but more and more I dig how Michter's uses the lower proof entry into the barrel - I think they've mastered this. You get fantastic depth of flavor at lower proofs - at least in my opinion. I love both 10 year products and the Bomberger's and Shenks - high quality stuff.

      @@paulgrace1279 I am going to have to go back to it…. I want to love it…. But on first sip it wasn’t wowing me…but if you compare it to makers, old forester, Jack, and tons of others I think would smash it in a blind for half the price…I am going to have to set up a few blinds with various stuff and see how it does… maybe it will surprise me

    It’s not great for sure… it’s unique because it’s a sour mash. To me, I’m hoping it opens up and becomes phenomenal or just good, but I’m not holding my breath. Cheers and have a Happy New Year!

    I think they're living off of past releases that were said to be fantastic...which of course drove up the demand...and the price. SLB commented in one of their more recent videos that Shenk's and Bomberger's haven't been that good the last few years, but people still chase these releases. The regular Michter's sour mash is pretty good and only $40-$50.

      @lesscashmoremash  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@allenwilson8966 I think we have that one in the sack…but to me $40-50 should never be pretty good… that is a rare breed, knob store pick, copper & cask…. Or multiple bottles of Evan William, WT 101 or old forester 100… all bottles that I think would beat it….

    • @allenwilson8966

      @@lesscashmoremash I can't say how the Shenk's flavor profile compares because I wasn't about to drop $120 on it after seeing some of the other feedback about it, but the Michter's is pretty tasty at a fraction of the cost. I certainly don't get any black pepper notes...thank god! Lol. There are other bottles in the price range that are better for sure, but also higher proofs which I'm not always in the mood for. I can't say I've had the Evan Williams but I do have WT 101 which I rarely reach for. I have a lot of other bottles in that proof range that I'd much rather drink. I do agree the Michter's should be cheaper because Eagle Rare is $42 here, and pretty easy to get on the regular in my area.

      @ I hear ya….all I was saying…. There is a long list of other whiskeys that are the same or higher proof for way less money that I think would beat this…. We will see after it opens up…. Maybe it will surprise me…

    Got one of these this summer. Never had one so was pretty happy to grab it. But, as you've seen, it's a bit of a dud. I think there is some malted rye in this mash and also a French Oak finish or barrel involved also. They are still on shelves here in CT along with it's bourbon cousin Bombergers which tells me they made a shit-ton or are simply asking too much money for em.
    Once air got into the bottle the rye hits a little more but that proof holds it back from wowing anyone.
    Win some, lose some.
    Cheers fellas.
