I was following you on Instagram and always wanted a breakdown tutorial of your illustrations. Thank you so much for this tutorial it really helped alot ❤️
Cody! It's a student from twitter, always been inspired by your illustrations. Final getting to see a full tutorial of your process here on youtube is so awesome. Thank you man, I'll definitely tag you when I am done with this.
Using this as my second ever tutorial while learning illustrator and it's been very helpful that you say what the shortcuts are for everything you're doing. Really helps makes drawing smoother and way less clicking around looking for what I want. Thank you!
make sure to click to add things as little as possible. When you want to find a tool, find it, look for the shortcut if there is any, and use the shortcut to bring up the tool. I found it builds the habit smoothly to significantly improve workflow.
Just make circle and bring the pen tool before this rota it with click shift and alt( 45°)and but anchor point then click delete from keyboard @WhatsNextFam
@@codyabanks I would like to thank you because this video gave me my 1st ever job in MNC. Keep the tutorials coming I'm sure it's helping everyone else as well. Thank you so much again 🙌😊
Thank you sooooooooooooo much. I tried this and I am really satisfied with the tut video!! Please make more tutorials like this one!! I need to learn to make 2d chacracters more!
Thanks so much for your video bro. I’m a great artist on paper, and spray cans but I’m new to illustrator. This was very helpful and explained each step easy to follow. Keen for more videos bro🖤
1:07 hello mate, how do u delete the anchor point without losing the fill ? I'm changing from inkscape to AI. I feel little frustrated with this one although it's not a big problems. Can u plz help me? I'll appreciate it.
7:27 Yo! I think if you dont like ur shape, you dont need to use the direct selection tool, just use the pencil again on that shape, where you want to adjust, and voilá ✌🏼
Thank you for the tutorial! I'm completely new to Illustrator, so I just wanted to say that it would be cool if you could share the palette you used for this illustration, or at least the codes for the colors.
Man I thoroughly loved doing this! Thank you for yoru time and guidance! My two cents: when drawing the shadows, isn't it easier to "Draw Inside" of each shape?
Hey can you explain why at 13:46 when you erase it creates a clear mark where you cut? when i make that first eraser curve line it creates these invisible points like where the eraser line ended, kind of inside of the earring. Does that make sense? Im using an ipad but honest;y theres nothing underneath it, ive done it with the earring as an individual layer and it still happens. its soooo frustrating, sometimes it even creates these smudges.
@@codyabanks i could screenshot it and send it to you on like your IG page, I went on Reddit and someone explained it but when I did what they did it didn’t work
Its crazy, because the way I see life is in shapes. I am not a perfect drawing free hand person... However, whe nit comes to shapes, I feel as though I am a master of it
thanks…love how you work with pencil and pen easily. i find myself using just pen and shapes. Need to learn shortcuts for move to back/behind. Find myself with billions of layers. My motto is if u use something more than 5 times..then learn the d#$m SHORTCUT.
the stroke settings are essentially saved with my color palette. When I select a color from the palette with the eyedropper tool it will automatically have those settings
How do you decide where to use shadows and where not to. For example, the face has several shadows, ears, mustache.. but there's no shadows in the clothing or pony tail.
When you are working with cartoons I dont think theres really a science to it. I also didn't want to make the tutorial too long otherwise I likely would have added a few more shadows/details.
Hi, I'm only starting with illustrating characters. I found this video very helpful, but I can't seem to get the stroke weight the same when working on different sizes of shapes. Can you please give a tip on how to solve this?
I really don’t rely much on the pencil tool in Illustrator. It’s always such a challenge to draw using the mouse, and I can’t really get the strokes accurately with those old Wattpad drawing tablets.

Copy/Paste as you would normally 3.Hit "o" 4. Click and drag on the object to spin it. If you hold "Shift" it will lock in place and flip horizontally or vertically. I almost always hold shift. 5. I use draw inside for certain instances. Most of the time I prefer to avoid making clipping masks if possible.
Hey man, that character is amazing! Also nice that you take your time explaining things. What is this kind of style called?

What do you mean by invisible points? It’s possible something different is happening because you’re on iPad

Incredible! Have you tried the 'draw inside' tool for shading? Thank you for your videos!
I just learned about it recently! I think there are certain instances where it is helpful and others where the technique I show here is better.

this is really nice!! could you pkease add a hex code cheat sheet or anything similar? it could help a lot!
take a screenshot of the colors, past it to workplace and use color picker.
really cool video and technique! How do you change your default stroke settings (width, corner, etc.)?
the stroke settings are essentially saved with my color palette. When I select a color from the palette with the eyedropper tool it will automatically have those settings
What setting do you have on the pencil to make the lines smooth and to join them perfectly to complete the shape
You can raise the fidelity by double clicking the pencil tool
do u have any tips on using the pencil tool, Cause i keep making weird curves that dont look smooth at all. and very good video
Yep check out my pencil tool tutorial 👍🏽

I’d suggest watching my color palette tutorial. When you have a consistent color palette you can easily make all your strokes the same width
Learned some neat tricks here thanks! Just a quick question, do you outline strokes at the end for export?
Only if I’m sending to a client
i really love ❤ it thank you ,
No problem ✌🏽
Thanks that’s a great video. For the pencil tool, are using the mouse or the graphic tablet?
I just use a mouse 👍🏽
How do I get this kinda retro effect on my illustrations?👏😭😭
I really don’t rely much on the pencil tool in Illustrator. It’s always such a challenge to draw using the mouse, and I can’t really get the strokes accurately with those old Wattpad drawing tablets.
Pencil tool definitely takes some getting used to. Its become my favorite tool
can i ask about the color pallete that you using on your illustrations? , is it your own color pallete or something?

How do we get the palettes bro...i really want to recreate this 💔

That was great
But please say the color cods
When do u decide to use the pencil tool instead of pen and vise versa?
Pencil tool for more complex shapes. Pen tool if it’s a simple shape.
will this character work in Ae when I want to animate it using any plugin like(duik)
For sure. There is a follow up video to this one showing how I animate
what are ur pencil tool settings
my pathfinder tool isn working
What program do you use to screen record 🤔
I use just use screen record on iMac - cmd + shift + 5
how do you make a color pallete like that on the side?
Will do a quick video on this soon!
Broo i really need all the colors how can i get the colors??
Do you draw it out first or just start working out of illustrator
Just illustrator 👍🏽
How long does it take?
Do you have any specific settings for your pencil tool in illustrator?
I usually keep it on the second highest smooth setting
Do you use drawing tab? or mouse ?
mouse
would the option key , be the control key in windows
Option = alt
Command = ctrl
