The comments about this being overdone or “I don’t get this” or something of that sort: Matt is a world class drummer, he knows exactly what he’s playing and why he’s doing it. Being that PASIC is a place where drummers come showcase their talent & chop away, I think his choosing of a song he likes is a really mature musical decision. This dude is a machine & one of the worlds most refined drummers in his genre. We could all learn a lesson from this, he is glorifying our creator. Keep chuggin Matt.
This demonstration is actually very helpful for church drummers especially ones that play for youth services, making them look at more variations without overplaying.

Spot on. The drummer controls the mood and intensity of the music and the audience... drummers run the show. But the best drummers don't have to make sure everyone there actually knows that.

I’ve been drumming for nearly 20 years now (started around 12-13yo), and am still trying to get to his level lol. It wasn’t until this year that my wrists (mainly the left one) finally started cooperating to let me refine double strokes. It takes thousands of hours of time/practice/refining the technical work, but the more you work the better you’ll get. I came across this guys channel, where Matt actually gave an hour plus long clinic, and have copied it in this reply to help you guys out. Yeah, sure if he was playing at church, but in this current situation he wasn't, he was actually at an event where he could play infront of thousands of amazing drummers and drumming companies and he used the buildup transistion to do a drum solo (which may not have gone great again in a worship enviromnent) which is perfectly normal when drumming in certain situations.
