I know you have much nicer bikes than the Ozark trail but it's good you're showing how much fun almost anyone can have out there exploring on a basic bike. Not to mention the health benefits. Great stuff 🙂
Yeah im thinking im gonna pick one up soon. I love riding single track on motorcycles but a lot of trails are locked off to me since you cant ride them with a motorized vehicle so a bike like this would be a nice option for exploring
I bought one 😂. Watching your video now to compare. The bike is nice. I'm 6'2 and the bike is a bit small. The size ends at 6'2 so I pulled the trigger and got one. I drive semi all over the country and wanted a bike to ride around for fun and travel. I was about to buy the Giant revolt 2 but the price on the Ozark G1 was hard to pass up, so I got one. I was in Phoenix AZ at the time and bought the G1 Walmart bike. It's truly been a fun bike but there's been tweaks. First stop was the Trek dealer for tuning! After tuning the bike shifted great, well amazing! First attachment was a bike pump on the front fork. Mine is quite big with a pressure gauge but it did the job. Next was a water bottle holder which was a must. Then I ordered resin brake pads. This upgrade really helped the brakes and the noise of stopping. Now I just ride the bike. Might upgrade the saddle next! All in all the bike is balanced and geared pretty good. I'll probably run the tires till they run out but I'm pretty happy with it. Must say this bike is a great introduction to gravel biking. Would highly recommend starting with this then a more expensive one. Sometimes in life you have to try something before you dive in deep on it and I think this is the bike to do it with.
Great video! Beautiful country. You bought yours, and many of us who've bought it, to use for a rough road bike. Side adventures without going mountain bike riding. Still comfortable enough on the road. I won't be sick if it breaks or if it comes up missing, but I am upgrading to Claris and 11-32 8speed. It sounds like a lateral shift instead of an upgrade, but those of us who normally ride road bikes with Tiagra, 105, or better, will notice the familiarity, the improved shift quality and more shifting positions on the bars. The only drawback, is I now have a $400 G1 Explorer, including shifters and freewheel.
@@Tomcat6541 thanks! Sort of strange, upgrading may seem counterintuitive because it’s a “budget” bike… but, there’s something kinda cool ABOUT upgrading it. Maybe just me, but I’m enjoying it
In case anyone is interested, they now offer the Ozark Trail 700C G.1 Explorer "Flat Bar" Gravel Bike as well. MTB style handlebar, 1x8 drive train, and 3 frame sizes. However, getting one before xmas may take a stroke of luck. I guess there is a run on them, as they are out of stock online. A local store may have one ? p.s. I personally, don't think of it as a mountain bike because because of the skinny tires, but, I suppose it could be depending on where/how you ride.
So many videos showing this bike. So many positive videos showing this bike. Are other big box stores getting the message? They can be selling their own version of the Ozark Trail G1 Explorer. I think we will see them next year. Nice pictures.
Have had mine for about 6 weeks and has revitalized my love of cycling that I used to have. Great bike for the price. My only complaint is the brakes. Will probably be the next upgrade
@@ericthiedich8698 Awesome man! If you’ve not already there, go on FB and join the Ozark G1 Explorer Gravel Grinders group. Lots of people there sharing their upgrades and such
Hey, great video. Can you talk more about how you upgraded to a 9 speed in the back so cheaply? I thought between it being a freewheel and the proprietary shifters up front that it would be limited to 7 in the back without major changes - obviously I don't know much about how that works though.
@@AlbertBergen thanks. Two things: 1) it was easy for me because my electronic shifter/derailleur works with cassettes 3 to 14 speeds, but i did buy a freewheel cassette so it could work with my rear wheel. 2) go on facebook and join the group Ozark Trail G1 Explorer Gravel Grinders. There you will find a lot more detailed information on many upgrades (cheap) for this bike
@@MILTONATOR Oh, that makes sense. The shifters didn't matter because of the electric shifting, that you clearly described in the video. I guess I'm pretty dense today.
I picked up a gr1 because of your videos! I love it and am looking to get a serious gravel like you did. How tall are you? What size gr1 do you ride? What size is your Crux? I’m 5’8” with 30” inseam. Gr1 small fits good.
@@clydecustodio1 hey man! Good stuff. I’m 5’ 9” ~31 inseam. I went Medium on the Ozark fit is good. My Crux was 56c which felt slight too big and so I sold it. Now that I’ve upgraded my Ozark with new shifter and brakes, I’m keeping it as my only gravel bike.
I'm not sure I understand gravel bikes. This looks like the "ten speed" road bikes that we rode in the 70's and 80's, but with a teeeeny little bit of knobbies on the tires. Not a single other difference. 🤷♂️
Wider tires, slight knobs, angled bars, they're made to be able to tackle these single track dirt trails vs. a road bike on 32mm slicks would be a slight inconvenience.

I find the gearing a bit too low. I'm thinking a taller crank set. Maybe a 50/34?
Wish the made it in a larger size. Medium is just to small for most people
no medium frames near me :(
