As a project for the holidays many years ago i had a teacher who had us make orange pomanders to hang up & we made ours using satin ribbons, my mother was so happy she loved the smell 😊 i am 69 yrs old & i still remember making them.
I love how you encourage your children to do anything!! You are always so interested and loving and they learn so much this way!! I’ve seen you do this when they were getting covered in mud and you were laughing right along with them!! ❤️💫🍁🍂🍁💫❤️
Loved watching the kids join in. I have a 65 yr old pomander made by my brother in kindergarten for our mother. For sweet memory reasons it hangs in my closet wrapped in the original netting, and still has the faint smell of cloves. Merry Christmas!
Hi Laura🙌👋 Here in Denmark, we also sometimes tie a Red ribbon around the orange, and put cloves where there is no ribbon, and then hang them from the ceiling or in a window☺️ just if you need more inspiration!
You constantly spark my creativity! (trust me it needs some sparkin' these days ; ) I purchased a bag of clementines at the store which are only good to throw at squirrels! I was lamenting what to do with them and now I know! Loved Benjamin's sputnik (at 19:41)! Raising boys is a true treat. Samantha, so bright and chatty sitting on Grandma's knee. You are so kind to share so much of your life along with you gardening know how. I am so grateful for the bits of joy and whimsy you touch my days with. Such a positive light in trying times. Thank you.
I have a fond childhood memory going to church and making these near Christmas time, it reminds me of my dear mom who passed away when i was 8, after that we stopped doing thing like that sadly, but i think as a mom i am going to bring the traditions back into my life.
🙏 Please add gnatrol to your store!! 😊 I wrote a while back asking if they could add it to the to-do list and one of your lovely people replied that they’d try. Like you said the last time you used it, the only thing out there is a huge bucket, so hoping it would be worth it for you to sell it in small packets. Assuming it’s not too much of a pain to do, or that it requires a lot of permissions or something. THANKS for considering it, and hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
How wonderful that you and your mom share those traditions with your kids they will remember and hopefully pass them along. Sewing the poppy seeds on the hill. I hope you have just a glorious outcome from there. I can’t wait to see it.!
Love the family unity. I made some last year I still have one but it's super hard, I will be using again. I also gifted some in cello bag and hung a few very carefully on Christmas tree, It's so rewarding and the aroma, ahhhh! Looking forward to your seedling. Thank you ❤🪻❤️🪻❤️🪻🪻❤️
What a wonderful day you had. It was so sweet seeing you, your mom, and the kids doing fun things together. I enjoy doing things like that with my kids and grandchildren.
Love passing traditions down in the family, and your kids will too one day. Treasured memories! So fun that Samantha can participate more this year. You are a great mama, Laura!! Can't wait to see the excitement when the kids see their poppies in the hillside.
What a fun time, I never made the pomanders and I watched you make them so many times! But this year, is it! I just bought the cloves and will get oranges and make them! The kids have so much fun, it's such a joyous time for you all! I really hope that the hill will be full of poppies! Have a blessed weekend 🤗🙏🏻❤️
Little fun fact as to how pomanders usually dont get fungal issues or rot out, cloves have the essential clove oil which is antifungal, soooo the decor comes with a natural protector. Happy Holidays ❤
Good morning Laura and family! I can remember 55 years ago or so making these with my Mom. It was so amazing because really we did not have any extra money so for her to buy the cloves and oranges for us to just use for house decor was a very special time. She always made sure Christmas was a joyous time. Thank you for these memories. Hugs from N.C..❤
I am now 39, I remember very clearly making these in gr. 4 I would have been 9. I remember finishing mine before the entire class so the teacher said I could make another one and give it to someone. I remember running it over to the school( our classroom was a separate portable out building). I was so proud of my work AND they smelled so good! 🍊
We have our 6year old grandson this whole Thanksgiving weekend. I have the whole cloves,so just the oranges. Can't wait to begin this tradition with him today! Thanks so very much
The hill area really looked huge today. If you're ever in need of a sunny area to grow your cut flowers and vegetables, that area would make a beautiful terraced garden. I would love to see Laura's design on that project
Russell looks so handsome today. 🍁🐈 🍁 I bet Russell would like to watch the whole planting project. Russell needs a personal stool to watch from. 🍁🐈🍁 I remember fondly decorating oranges with my mother at Christmas time. 🎄🍊🎄🍊🎄
Oh, I can’t wait to see those poppies! How fun! I really love seeing your traditions with the kids. I’m always looking for special things to do with my granddaughter.
Love to see Samantha Grace and Benjamin having so much fun with the oranges and your mom and you God bless you and your family I hope all the seeds look very beautiful in the heel full of flowers😊
I loved Benjamin's "toothpick pomander"!! I plan to get my boys doing pomanders with me this weekend- Thank you for the idea! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing poppy's poppin' up everywhere!
Aww the smells of Christmas. Takes me back to my childhood. The cedar tree,an a box of apples an oranges, along wirh nuts, raisins, and the Christmas candies you could only find at Christmas time. That's what made it so special.
Our brownie leader always had us make these. I really loved them. My Mother kept them in the kitchen for the beautiful holiday scent! Thanks for reminding me of that !!❤
When starting seeds indoor I put my seed starting mix in a big stainless steel bowl & pour boiling water over it, just enough to moisten soil. Then cover it with foil & let it cool, which seems to help kill off any eggs or larva that might be in the soil. But then water with the Gnatrol as another preventative . It would be great if you could sell small packets of that in your store as it’s hard to find it in the small er portions for people who can’t afford the big containers.
Laura I use mosquito bits for the gnats works almost immediately and for a long time. I put the bits in the bottom watering tray so it soaks into the soil and kills all eggs. I normally don’t need the sticky sheets after doing this because the top layer is very dry. If you do your powder with the bits in the tray I think you’d be just fine 😊❤ Happy Gardening
Thank you Laura for all that you do, I’ve watched since the beginning and have learned so much. Could you use that back hill for the kids to slide down this winter? It looks perfect for it…
I love the idea of scattering the poppies. I wonder if some of those pink columbines would look gorgeous on the hill as well? I love seeing columbines “fly” in the wind. ❤
I love the holidays on your channel. I don’t have much family I enjoy being around so seeing you and your family during the season is always a highlight for me.
Fun time for all. We also took styrofome balls and used pins and old jewelry, sequins, etc. I still have 3 of them (over 50 yrs old). Let Christmas fun begin.
love how you are carrying on traditions, and to see 3 generations there making the pomanders is just the best... what a great setup you have for seed starting and doing things like that in your winter, and i can't wait to see your field of poppies.. great idea!! .. hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving - now let the Christmas season start in full force!! love it! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
With a small drill, cloves and artificial oranges I made these for an arrangement that will last forever. I did make some real ones but totally love the artificial too. Such fun! LOVE your videos!
I already threw my poppy seeds out on a narrow area along the driveway. The flowers ill be medium to darker pink. I have orange poppy flowers scattered at the edge of my my woodland area.
I was so happy to see that we had a video this morning. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Question. Would you and Aaron be interested in repackaging and selling the gnatroll in smaller quantities so people could afford to purchase it. Thank you for all the wonderful videos and for sharing your family with us.
I loved the project you had its always doing things together with family, I am going to make some of the oranges that would smell so nice in kitchen or anywhere. thanks for sharing
Sounds like you planted winter wheat before. The picture on this packet looks like they have have purple heads. I thought it was lavender until you said it was wheat. Should be amazing!
When I was a kid I thought poppies were so beautiful. One year I threw seeds from some all over my mom’s garden. The next year they were everywhere. This caused the police to pay us a visit suspecting opium production (no joke) and told me I had to pull them all up and have my parents burn them. I was about 8 and had some very choice words for that police officer. I’ve been cautious about growing poppies ever since.
I'm getting ready to start a bunch of lavender seeds. I want them to be nice and bushy when spring comes to plant them. Having foot surgery in one week and I'll need things to do for a week so seed starting it is

Thank you for sharing such lovely memories with us! Keep cherishing them!
68-years old and made these orange & clove pomanders for my mom, too! Sweet memories & worth passing on to next generations!
I'm 63 and remember making those.
I love how you encourage your children to do anything!! You are always so interested and loving and they learn so much this way!! I’ve seen you do this when they were getting covered in mud and you were laughing right along with them!! ❤️💫🍁🍂🍁💫❤️
They're little for such a short time, it's great to let them be kids.
Loved watching the kids join in. I have a 65 yr old pomander made by my brother in kindergarten for our mother. For sweet memory reasons it hangs in my closet wrapped in the original netting, and still has the faint smell of cloves. Merry Christmas!

That’s how I’ve always made them in the U.K. 🍊🎄

Poppy hill - a garden risk worth taking! I love watching the kids enjoy helping you.
I also threw bulbs over "our hill" into the leaves etc. how fun to see the blooms the next spring.
That’s a great name! I love it.
I have a fond childhood memory going to church and making these near Christmas time, it reminds me of my dear mom who passed away when i was 8, after that we stopped doing thing like that sadly, but i think as a mom i am going to bring the traditions back into my life.
Just do it! You and your children will all benefit from it. Good luck with this and have a very Merry Christmas.
@@elainelandry1990 i will, i already told my husband to remind me to buy cloves :) Thank you and you too. x
Beautiful, heartwarming video. I loved Russell supervising in the greenhouse.

Thank you for the interesting fun fact! 💕 💕 💕
@lynlalalala 🥰👍🏼
Thank you. 😊
@jennygirl8849 🥰
Naw, mine is rotting with the white mold on the orange. It is filled with cloves. Will let it decay on its own not throwing it away.

How fun, love it when the kids get involved. Like you said, building their memories & they can pass them on to their children. Such fun.
New Gardner in Ohio: I absolutely love the crafts that include the kids. They will certainly remember these times spent with family.
What a wonderful thing to do with the kids. I had forgotten all about making these as a child. So much fun to see what the kids came up with.
The smell of oranges is Christmas for me. I've never done these, but I think I will give it a try this year. 😊🎄

I swear I could smell that amazing nutmeg and oranges project!
Oh, I can’t wait to see those poppies! How fun! I really love seeing your traditions with the kids. I’m always looking for special things to do with my granddaughter.

I enjoy watching everything you do. And the kids, and your Mom...all wonderful!
Good morning from Minnesota. It is good stratification weather here.
For indoors, I use a Katchy Indoor Insect Trap instead of the yellow stickys. Works like a charm.
Always fun to see Benjamin and Samantha making ornaments with you and grandma!!😊
I love the smell of citrus! I gotta try these! ❤
What a fun time to have with your family today and planting seeds to just a great video.
I work for the company that makes Gnatrol. Cool!!
Those orange decorations looked like so much fun to make, and the kids got to join in on the fun.😊

Those can last for years! Very pretty!
Good morning from Delaware Garden Answer friends.
Excited to see what the hillside becomes!
Oh I was totally expecting no video today. yay!! ❤❤❤
Great ideas and projects ❤
I have done this with apples. I completely covered the apple and then sat it near my violets. It is supposed to help the violets keep blooming.

Wish I had room for getting seeds started.
I have got to do these this year. So much fun
I love your videos, they make me smile. Thank you.💗
So pretty! The pomanders of medieval times were also carried around to cover body odor as people did not bathe frequently.
Great video!

Not mother nature
But God 🙌 His beautiful creations to grow and enjoy 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Cute project with the kids!
Your mother is so beautiful!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰🎄
Samantha sure looks like her Grandma!
I hope you have sleds for that hill. Many hours were spent at our neighborhood hill.
Sounds like you planted winter wheat before. The picture on this packet looks like they have have purple heads. I thought it was lavender until you said it was wheat. Should be amazing!
❤❤❤ I hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving.
Laura you and your mother would be great to volunteer in a school to teach the children to do all things

Bad guys ruin so many great things for the rest of us.
That was so fun! I love seeing your geraniums tucked in the corners too. May God bless you and yours!
Greetings from Switzerland
