West Virginia is beautiful including the people in it. People that don't live here have the wrong impression because they tend to believe the stories they've heard. I've had the opportunity to visit many other states throughout my younger years and I've never found any other place I would want to call home even as much as I loved Rhoad Island because I love to fish. Thank you, Shane and Melody. ❤🙏

The Guyandotte River runs through Chapmanville also. The river flooded our town and home several times in the early sixties. Would appreciate a video of Chapmanville if feasible. These areas are my roots in my early years. Had relatives in Buckeye and Bozo also and many more.

I felt the same way, and at the ripe old age of 50 I finally made it happen. Best decision of my life, I love it here.. like nowhere I've ever been. The people are as wonderful as these ancient mountains. Feel free to reach out, be happy to help you find your own piece of .."Almost Heaven"

West Virginia rocks. One of the most beautiful and underrated states in the USA. Love your research and history Melody. Only you and Shane could say it so well. I also love these old court houses. Got one here where I live in Wooster, Ohio county seat of Wayne. I have plenty of pics of it.

I was so blessed the other day, I had to call home to a business in Clarksburg, WV. Being in Florida for years, I’m so used to rudeness and disrespect, that I kept apologizing to the wonderful lady for bothering her. It is wonderful to see home! Thank❤

Good video!! I find that the rock formation called Castje Rock very much resembles the rock formation in Lee County Va. known as Old Stone Face and another name I will not mention. I once saw a post card that actually had the other name printed on it. The card was from the 1950's or 1960's, which is the era from which it was commonly referred to by that name.

It is so awesome that you include old photographs of some of the places you have visited. These photographs really help your audience to not only learn about the history of a particular place, but understand it based on economics and geography. Some people out west and other places believe that all the people in WV are redneck hillbillies. Several years ago in my social studies class we were discussing stereotyping. One student mentioned that she and her family visited California that previous summer. Apparently, they stopped at a McDonald's to eat lunch. The waitress who took the order commented on their accent and asked where they were from. When she found out that the family was from WV, the waitress stepped from behind the counter and looked the family up and down. The family looked on with amazement and wondered "What in the world?" Suddenly, the waitress said, "Well, I thought all people from WV and Kentucky were barefoot, but you are wearing shoes." With that comment, the family walked out of McDonald's. There are just some really nutty people in this world. Thank you for your kindness to the people and comments of a state that I love - WV.

Love this! Both sets of my grandparents raised their families in Wyoming county. My Mom was one of 11 kids, and my Dad was one of 16, so I have many, many cousins! Even though I didn’t grow up there, I spent lots of time visiting my relatives in Wyoming County…some of my fondest memories! One of my aunts was a court reporter at the courthouse for many years. Wyoming County is such a beautiful place! Thanks, Shane and Melody!!

hi melody and shane. just wanted to say i appreciate your time of yall taking rides and having pictures of my west virginia. i was raised in boone county, but have family in wyoming county also. I miss wv so very much and it will always be home to me. Im currently in Laredo,Tx, minutes away from the border of mexico. came here in 2020 with a job, and with covid happening, i have ended up stuck here. Its dangerous here with all the border crossings and heavy crime, i have been trying to get back home, but cant seem to get enough money, nor find a place to live affordable on the internet. The people are good, but not as friendly or helpful as back home. The population speaks 95% spanish, and I speak 100% english. there is a huge language gap, so i end up pretty much alone, no friends or social life. Your videos give me a little more inspiration to try and make it back to where i love so much. Thanks

    That peacock bistro and club
Was a large hotel with efficiency apartments too
This was in the late 1970’s
    My Dad lived in one
I stayed a many many weeks there in the summertime with my Daddy
I cannot remember the folks last name who owned it
I think his first name was Bailey
Brought back lots of sweet memories
    My daddy’s gone now

Burning Rock is not located at Pineville, it is located at Lynco just outside of Oceana and there was a fire lookout tower built on top of Burning Rock it was there from about 1933 until about 1980 and it is true that snow would never lay on Burning Rock that’s how it got it’s name. When Appalachian power built the power station at Crouch,s Farm behind the Clear Fork Valley Golf Course. The high voltage power lines passed close to the fire tower and they took it down. There is a communication towers located right next to burning rock today. It is a very beautiful place to go very peaceful and quiet the. It’s the highest point in this area and you can see all the way into Virginia and Kentucky it’s at around 3,000 feet in elevation.

Heath Slater, cool! Sounds like he took the name of the famous wrestler (and shooter) Dirty Dick Slater. Circa 2009, I knew a woman in Hardy, KY, who has a cousin named Andrew Varney. He was playing the role of "Doink The Clown" in Ohio Valley Wrestling.
