      lol.... Well stock they're pretty capable against audis and similar but put it against a Toyota Tacoma or Nissan xterra/frontier stock, or better yet with a proper suspension in it- something you can't do to these newer model Land Rovers, and you'll quickly find that this is far from 'better than any other' in fact you won't be able to do half the stuff these do, and they're still IFS and have a comfy ride. And if you want airbag suspension (god only knows why you'd want to lose that much roadfeedback while offroading but each to their own) you can always install one in a Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, etc.
      The problem with Land Rovers like this is they aren't modifiable, you can't put large tires on them due to their tire clearance issues, so good M/Ts aren't going on there. Notice how he didn't take the range rover through the mud puddle that the stock jeep got stuck in? Approach angles are also bad.
      It's a great car though for minor to moderate dirt roads in national forests when you're not planning on really getting onto the harder trails (where a nice steel plate bumper to help push crap out of the way comes in handy, and so does not worrying as much about the paint). It will get you places but it is far from the ultimate offroading experience.

      +Igor K no doubt the ROver is an icon in itself, its just the way people use them. Usually with such price tag they end up as mall crawlers, but very capable. The wrangler is a totally different banana, you can peel it and dress it up to your liking. There is no point, unless you make a scientific study, which one is most capable over-all, It's a matter of taste, lifestyle and economics. Terrain also matters. Offroad is a general term. The jeepers will get in your face and tell you try to crawl your ROver in Rocks. The Rovers heritage is in OVERLANDING. because it has the size, room, and the capability to perform such task. The jeep as it stands, is pretty much a toy for most, although its starting to expand its exposure to overlanding.
      I think we all get it, you can still have fun in a rover with the creature comforts as mentioned. Jeepers, like theirs open, top down, so? no point comparing. Unless you own both and do what they are for, i suppose you will not spend so much time comparing them but rather, enjoying them.

    • @alanzapanta7254
      @alanzapanta7254 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ipullstuffapart If you are referring to the engineers that try to make the wranglers survive huge rocks, and the Crazy lifestyles that go with it, then, whatever helps the NOOB jeeper helps. The jeep lifestyle will lure you to do all those crazy offroading. But you are right, it is mostly a hype, but it feeds on a lifestyle not everybody can afford.

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Richard Harrold No the traction control is what makes the range rover work offroad, since it replaces the locking diff systems. It is extremely capable, but it acts as a feedback, so you have to get the wheels to spin to get the computer to figure out what it needs to lock to regain traction. Most of these systems take some revving, a lot of the time you can get it to trigger early by feathering the brake a bit.

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +BeanerMan3k There is a threshold though, where going too fast loses traction. The Jeep driver in this video is clearly blasting it because he thinks he is being cool, not because he is a good driver.

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Whenever they pass a small puddle the jeep floors it, making all kind of noise and getting mud everywhere like a 16 year old boy. The Range rover could have made it through the last obstacle with more power, but that isn't the proper way. Gunning it through a ditch like that is only going to end up damaging your vehicle. He is simply inexperience and picked a really bad line. He could have easily picked a different line and gotten through easily.

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      and possibly damaged his vehicle. The proper way through that obstacle is a different line. Maybe he would have got through it by slamming into the hole with enough momentum to pop out, but this isn't the proper method, will end up damaging the vehicle, and will not working it more difficult situations. Are harder obstacles this jeep drivers methods will just create a loss in traction that will get him stuck.
      As fast as necessary, as slow as possible, is a motto of many good off road drivers for a good reason.

My RR has never broke down or gave me a problem, never, but I'm the type of person that replaces everything before it breaks, anyone could have one of these, I paid $11k with 105k miles on it, these super reliable if you maintain them and fix them before they break down.

      People seem to forget that a car, no matter if it’s a RR, Land Cruiser, Jeep or a Suzuki, in an off-road environment will suffer and of course you are not going to go home with a 100% healthy car. So they slap the Unreliable dog tag on the RR, just cuz they are harder to fix due to electronics... which in fact it is kind of a pain in the ass.

    • @igorlalessio
      @igorlalessio 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Aidan Sweeney thats weird. If your car overheats, its a signal of a bad cooling system, maybe a leak or your fan isn't working. revving it up just makes it hotter and harder to cool of, the best thing to do is turning it off or just leting it run at 800 rpm until it is cool. I've driven a car whose fan wasnt working properly, and got in a heavy traffic on a summer day. guess what? water boiled. I was lucky tu turn it off quickly and didn't got worst problems hehe

    • @infernicus1
      @infernicus1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Igor Alessio If your fan isn't working, nothing besides turning it off is going to help it cool down. -On the other hand, if your fan is working fine and it is a mechanical fan, like on most older cars (probably how it is on that Land Cruiser), revving the engine spins the fan faster and sucks more air into the radiator, thus cooling it down.

    • @Nonamenever557
      @Nonamenever557 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bit oversensitive? Its an inferior design for off-road or towing.

    • @Nonamenever557
      @Nonamenever557 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Range Rover is excellent, I agree. Trust me i'm a huge fan. Unibody has many advantages, including mpg, handling, and will work perfectly well for off-road and towing. The advantage of a body on frame design is that the chassis is separate from the body, which means it hhas the frame to flex and take that stress, so the body doesnt have to. With a unibody, all that stress and strain is going through the whole body, which will be detrimental in the long run. An example of this is if you go on an axle twister (ie two wheels off the ground) and try to open your door on a unibody, chances are you wont be able to open it because the whole body is flexing. Not so with body on frame, which for this application is a better design. The best solution is really the Discovery 3/4 chassis.

    • @Nonamenever557
      @Nonamenever557 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually body on frame provides a better ride as there is more separation. Bumps have to go through the chassis and its mounts before it affects the body. No flex in anything? The unibody does resist flex, that is true, and that really helps in handling. But that is also a problem, especially when put under strain in off road or towing situations. The body will flex where it shouldnt. With body on frame, the frame is designed with flex in mind, so it will be more durable in the long run. As for crashes, the G-Class is a very old design, dating back to 1979. Look at a crash test of the new Land Cruiser 200, it gets a 5 star NCAP rating.

    I think everyone is missing something pretty obvious....driving on a dirt road a day after it rained isn't really "off roading" Now take all three vehicles to a designated off road park and do a test, you'll quickly learn that independent suspension vehicles just don't have enough travel to do anything. The last shot in the video shows it. If you cant keep the tires on the ground, you're not going to make it far. Very simple.

    • @edwardbrearey6413
      @edwardbrearey6413 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +SilverBulletTj The typical response from an "off-roading expert (usually Jeep owner)" that thinks nothing is off roading unless its the most extreme trail imaginable. Also, that there are only 2 classes of vehicle: non-off roaders and Jeeps with every expensive mod available. This logic is like assuming no car can be quick or fun, unless its a LaFerrari at the Nurburgring.

    • @SilverBulletTj
      @SilverBulletTj 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont hate bro, yeah I've had multiple jeeps....and a bunch of chevys...and an ifs toyota. Guess which one sucked dick off road. I was once a youngin in highschool blowing all my cash on my first tj. But saying you have to have every expensive mod on a jeep is bullshit. A stock tj we'll pretty much do what ever you want if you can drive. Plus, buy a hacked up tj for around $2500 that some idiot tried to long arm, but dropped some coin on gears and lockers, fix hack job fab stuff, and you can have a super cheap, very capable, off road rig. I've done it twice now. And nothing wrong with dirt road driving if thats your thing, go for it

    • @rcairforceone
      @rcairforceone 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SilverBulletTj And install a SYE, or transfer case drop, new rear driveshaft if you lift it more 2.5 inches, replace the failure prone Dana 35, and then you might have a reliable TJ. Of course, after you replace the cooling system, or the OPDA if you have an 05/06 model. TJs are not bad, but they take a lot more work than a comparable full size 4x4 to work well off road. I live in Florida, and the terrain is largely sand and woods. Not too many rocks around these parts. I own a 00 TJ Sport. After a year of work and close to 3K (that includes new tires, cooling system, auto trans, and brakes) it might be as capable as the 95 Tahoe Z71 2 door it replaced.
