- This would be Johnny Lum Ho's last Merrie Monarch performance. This kahiko number was from the 2018 competition.
Dancing to Kaka'ikahi Ka Manu 'O'o, their dresses depic the 'O'o bird's shiny black feathers and yellow feathers on the wings and head. Beautiful group of 'O'o birds (olapa/dancers).
Though this performance did not place, Uncle Johnny's previous student, Napua Greig, Halau Na Lei Kaumaka O Uka, took festival overall halau.
Rest in aloha Uncle Johnny!
Dude… anyone who can do this dance should immediately win. All the awards. 🥵
Astounding - visually, choreographically, creatively, performance-wise. The physical demands of this dance is unimaginable! I held my breath the first time I saw this last year & I cannot watch it enough. No one ever looks like Kumu Johnny Lum Ho.
Have you seen the honu one of Molokai? He such an amazing story teller
rest in aloha uncle johnny
Johnny is one of my fav kumus of all time. This dance is beautiful. There were a few minor hiccups which I’m sure cost them points from the judges but over all this dance was amazing.
It's like chicken dance pro. If they hadn't said it was about a bird, you can still understand it is. Very impressive to dance while portraying bird movements. I would fall flat on my face. Amazing body language and control.
Bellísimo 🌻😍😍😍😍

My daughter Salina 5th in the front row ❤
