I have an idea for a challenge: every house has a different expansion pack, game pack, and stuff pack. it would be easier to fully furnish the houses but the challenge would be to make all the packs work together in one home
I've tried this with each room is a different expansion pack, game pack and stuff pack (basically each room is a different bundle) and I love it! You get such interesting vibes and aesthetics you'd never think of and find swatches you never knew existed
honestly i think basegame stairs are fair game for these challenges. in my mind stairs occupy the same kind of space as the walls, so i definitely dont feel likei t would be cheating to have just some basegame stairs. that said... ea please give us stairs, fence, and gate with every pack 😭 edit to add: a variation on this challenge theme could be to have a randomised option for the build *construction* where you could end up with basegame only or expansion pack only to ensure u get the doors/stairs/etc, then a second randomisation where the furnishing is chosen by any pack, or only game/stuff packs?
When I do "can I build a house with just x pack" challenges, I allow base game objects IF (and only if) the pack doesn't have any of that particular thing, so I agree with you in that Jesse could have totally done that.

Yeah, totally agree about using base game stuff if there is no option in the pack itself (because most homes wouldn't have toilets then) but yeah, it would also be nice if you roll a single expansion pack for the outside and then any missing options from that pack are also useful inside since that adds a little more challenge than just base game (and technically stuff like windows and doors can be seen inside too.) If you still don't get what you need, base game should always be an option. I think it'd be hilarious if she'd just tossed in a set of public toilets in the parking lot (she could've built them if none of those packs had the item version.) Because in the end this is actually the best cursed lot to visit for dining, marrying, and being haunted (though you'd have to make it a true haunted house to experience the stuff pack version so it's very versatile lol there is technically a kitchen at least.) If you remodel it with every pack as an option, it'd be funny to throw in some dumpsters, maybe some benches, a public toilet, and without changing anything else, just make it a true haunted house and see how long your Sims can last but don't expect them to stay there forever. Or if you want to try Carl's Dine-Out Reloaded mod, you could make it a restaurant with haunted and add in a bunch of bad lot traits and slowly remodel the entire lot depending on how well your restaurant does through ratings and profits! Edit: although lol the table in the wedding venue will get chosen by customers so it might have to go. Just adds more room back there anyway!

Two build challenge ideas: Each room is a different ex - make Don Lothario a new house/apartment with each room decorated after one of his lore exes Each room is decorated with 1 random expansion/game pack and 1 random stuff pack/buildbuy kit - only using base game for important missing items (like a toilet in a bathroom, doors, etc) sometimes the styles will compliment eachother and other times they'll end up clashing

I've been playing Planet Zoo a lot lately, and now I'm imagining doing an "each X is a different pack" challenge in that. Also, one Sims building challenge idea I had was "each room is a different year of content".
I reckon instead of a specific year, do a specific decade. Like 90s, 2010s, 50s, 20s etc. Actually that makes me think, I wish they made a world/expansion that was certain old fashioned eras. E.g 1920s and whatever technology was available then, fashions, hobbies etc. kids could have jobs (and get ill/hurt/pass away but have the option to toggle that off), the cost of things was more accurate to then (things cost less money but jobs paid much less), there could be an option to toggle certain gender specific jobs/roles like suffragettes, coal miner, cook, maid, politician etc. Goals/aspirations would be relevant (socialite, family oriented and the goal would be to have like 12 kids etc.), life span is shorter, deaths would be more relevant (lead toys, radioactive clocks, poisonous wallpaper etc.), you could be “sent to the seaside” if you were unwell and there could be a seaside town...I’m getting carried away lol

I always felt that the challenge should allow the use of base game items for build items or core appliances (if you build a bathroom you need a toilet) as replacements if a pack had none. Great use of what you had though. The spooky one at the end was brilliantly done.

This build kinda reminds me of the historic downtown in my city! Wedding venue (church) next door to a restaurant next door to a haunted house (doubling as a museum)! Very cute n creative, would visit here with my Sims if I had the packs, 10/10
This was so cursed. I think perhaps I would have allowed base game for stairs to allow the second floor to be used. But you did pretty good for how cursed the things you spun were.
it works so well in a way though. the bride and groom get ready in the paranormal stuff room, they get married in the wedding hall, and the party all goes to the restaurant for the dinner!
I'd love to each of these houses decorated with maybe five random packs, including 1 or 2 expansion packs to make sure they are all more or less functional.

Ive had an incomplete idea for a challenge id love to see you do for months now so im jist sharing… hoarder sim challenge... You begin with a fresh starter house and you have to spend all of your extra simoleons on more non essential stuff… this sim can have a job or earn money however you want, but they still spend every dollar earned on more stuff and the challenge is finding somewhere to put it while still having a clear path to the toilet/refrigerator/stove and anything else needed to stay alive. The yard can be utilized but not until the house is mostly full. The challenge ends when there isnt a single square left on the lot to place an item
I imagine the story of this lot is: get married, have the reception in the restaurant, then have an optional seance next door immediately after 😂 fantastic golden quality challenge
“the strange, dark and mysterious in story format” took me like 5 seconds to remember where i heard it from and then it was like jess broke the fourth wall

I was gonna like the video anyways, but the button got clicked at the Mr. Ballen reference. These kinds of challenges have the same vibe as the Sims Barbie Dream House Decorator pack, except sometimes even more limited. Though I would say probably my most unique challenge in the designer career was the guy with a completely (bugged) empty apartment who liked "baking" and "patio stuff." By about the third assignment from him, the place actually looked decent in all its minimalist pastel glory. And in case it sounds like I think the decor pack came before any such challenges, I know perfectly well it didn't (and Sims pretty much banked on the idea of people buying a whole pack based off a very old concept)... but these days when decor/pack challenges get particularly funky it reminds me of Baking Guy. XD
I have another idea kinda based on this one! Sims 4 has been out of 2014 and has more than enough packs that you could make a 3 house randomiser based on the dividing all the DLC into three time periods (as in, all the packs that came out before 2017, thn 2017 - 2020, 2020 - now, for example! Or just dividing them up equally lol) To see how the games style of content has progressed and to get a nice blast from the past?
I think that this is amazing but what could help is adding base game only for the house so that it’s still considered just that pack used for that home but loved how this ended a community lot

You could do this challenge again, but use just expansion packs. Then you'd be able to build cohesive and usable houses.

I think that this is amazing but what could help is adding base game only for the house so that it’s still considered just that pack used for that home but loved how this ended a community lot
