    I was thinking about the tape motor as well, you have taught me well lol.
    Some of the main pcbs might be good for part pinching.

    I always keep my 3 disc Kenwood mini HiFi filled with CDs and cassettes. It helps to prevent dust accumulating on the lens and the tape path, it will accumulate on top of the discs and cassettes instead. It's even worse than this JVC in this regard, because the CD player is on the bottom, and the whole case is full of vents. It has billions of hours in its CD player and still going strong since 1997. It needed a full disassembly - cleaning - lubricating twice, and changing the belts once. I can hear it will need a full recap soon, as the keyboard and display scanning can be heard in the audio, and also motor noise when I change between tracks. I will do it, because I like it, it has great sentimental value to me, and it also sounds good, it has a quite beefy 70+70W RMS output with discrete transistors (I measured 63W without clipping on 8 ohms dummy load, but the output is rated for 6 ohms).
    The PSU is very underrated, both the transformer and the filter caps. If I crank it up, the +/-50V drops to around +/-30V ! I might do a PSU mod on it, too. It has room for a much bigger transformer and filter caps. If I will go that way, I will probably add a standby PSU, because it uses the big main transformer in standby, it has a whopping 18W standby consumption. A good part of it is probably the heater of the huge VFD, but I guess with a small standby transformer I will be able to drop it to around 5W. The transformer has quite high losses, it is warm even when idle.
    I will also need to change the output transistors to higher current - higher Pd ones, because the output is probably designed around the weak power supply. If the rails won't drop from +/-50 to +/-30 under load, the original 6A transistors will not be enough. I'm guessing the output power will reach 100W RMS per channel at 6ohms with a solid +/-50V rail. The original transistors are Sanken 2SB1624 - 2SD2493 (110V 6A 60W), the replacements will be Sanken 2SB1647 - 2SD2560 (150V 15A 130W) , they should handle it, but I might reduce the supply voltage to +/-40V just to have some safety margin. A solid +/-40V is still much better than the very weak +/-50V. I will test it with a temporary transformer and a variac, to find out how it performs with different supply voltages, before I order the final transformer. The heatsink is huge, but I will add a silent, temperature controlled fan.

    Always interesting to see you work on these old units. Find out what's RIP and if they're worth repairing or even if they are good for parts to bring other units back to life.

      I bet it has zero hours. I know the one I bought my kids when they were young never used tapes. Just the CD player. I bet my old one the belts are toast in too. Haven't used it for years but the speakers from it are the ones i use in the shop as bench test speakers.

    How long does media last on a R or RW CD. Is a USB stick play media well ? What is the longest lasting media for storage outside a SSD drive. Haven't heard there lifespan, the Solid state drives/SSD. Nice job getting the JVC to work, you seem to have worked on a lot of VHS /DVD players ect. I like the older receivers the best. Can play the media into the AUX jacks.
    The amps on the older stereos are good.** Now all the tube fanatics will say, the tube amps are the best, that's a whole other chapter.

    It''s a very headache component system. the CD Mech is having some serious problems on the Rotary Encoder (responsible for Disc Changer and elevated lens mech.) cleaning that part would be better again.

      No, the problem is the spindle is bent. The switches do cause issues but this clamping correctly and the disk is wobbling due to bent shaft. Needs new spindle motor.

      You have a problem with cordless screwdrivers? Got news for you we all used them in the business.
      No i don't work in the business anymore. I say good riddance. I trained on plasma TV in early 2000s but never really got to put it to practice as I got out before any required service. Not interested in working on modern stuff. Very complex and specialized equipment required. I have been offered a job at one of the few remaining vintage audio shops, a big one at that but i declined. For starters if i were to accept they would most certainly demand my TH-cam channels removal and forbid me to work on side jobs. Just like my current employer. I am not permitted to do side jobs in networking or security systems as that is what i do at my day job. That would be a conflict of interest.

    • @KlonoaTorqueBow
      @KlonoaTorqueBow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't seem to find any of your videos or comments on TH-cam itself. Did you block me or something?
      I commented on the cordless drill because I was taught to never use power tools when opening anything that *could* be frail or liable to break, that's all. I didn't mean any passive-aggressiveness if that's how you took it. I can see the rest of your comment until you start on about plasma TV's. I don't know if it's a problem on your end or mine, but I can't see any of your responses or videos. Videos are only findable via Google itself.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KlonoaTorqueBow no you are not blocked. I see your connect and respond. This was not a drill I use. It is a cordless screw gun and the torque is limited. For really tight screws I have to do that by hand and i have broken a few, by ✋.
