I lived near State College for over 55 years, and watched Penn State wrestle home and away almost every dual since 1979. Those I couldn’t get to, I listened to them on the radio. My top 4 would be Brooks, Carter, Ruth, Nickal. My next 4 would be Zain, Taylor, Nolf, McCoy. Kerry went 47-0 and 41-0 back to back and won the Hodge. Penn State’s first Hodge winner. Quentin or Vincenzo don’t sniff the top 8, and may not make the top 10 to 15. Old school or older wrestlers I’d go Matter, Martin, Abe, Hughes.
I’m not certain winning a lot is boring, but you could always count on them for a win. Brooks was deemed the most dominant wrestler in the NCAA this last year. Nolf was probably FOR ME the most fun to watch.

Zain never was a takedown artist, and he road like a madman, but was always good for a win. Nolf and Bo in recent history for me were the most exciting to watch. I remember the spladle on Sammy Brooks like it was yesterday. Also, pinning Kollin Moore was fun.

Nickal was very similar, it’s amazing either of them lost in college with how good they were. Everyone takes losses just some we’re fortunate they were at big 10s or in a dual oppose to ncaa. Only difference between Bo and Nolf with Carter and Brooks.
Ed Ruth gotta be on there somehow someway. Too many sick misdirection takedowns vs Mack Lewnes, Gabe Dean, Nick Heflin and more as a Blair kid with swag who was already going to Penn State before Cael had even signed to become the coach,
He was a runner up for Penn state. David took his spot and he transferred to asu and beat David in the finals. A really great story that no one talks about

So many of them have extremely dominant careers and you have to consider that if Aaron had had another 60+ matches, he might have dropped a couple. The era of wrestling 40+ matches should be weighted in this assessment. Mark Schultz still has the NCAA record for winning 44 matches in a single season. That’s twice the damage on the body as these guys are taking now.
Matches are harder on the body than practice. Matches are 7min btw. There’s an interview of Cael talking about that actually. In practice, we were always careful to wrestle at a pace to avoid injury. Matches are much harder fought and hurt more. I never was an elite level wrestler, but I won a couple state championships and know the difference. I’m the same age as Cael and even wrestled him at a camp back when we were both 160 in HS. I used to train with Mark Schultz when he coached at BYU. He was the most intense I’ve ever seen.
It’s not TWICE the damage in any two comparisons….Do u think Will Lewan DANCING FOR 7 MINUTES is getting damaged? Plus, how short are some ppls matches compared to another. Wade Schalles didn’t spend much time on the mat. These guys can only wrestle the Dual Meet schedule that’s in front of them. Plus, there wasn’t another era that had a conference that was more competitive than the BIG10 is now. If you remember, PENN STSTE at one time was in the EIWA.
What Cael didn't say to Bo is this...of all the KILLERS that I've coached, you're the one I rather have out there. The dude from Kent, Connel was it beat Moore Twice that year which opened the door for PSU and I've been PSU wrestling for decades!!!

Folks forgetting Bubba was a previous NCAA runner up so that wasn’t a bad lose from Taylor
And a junior world champ at a time the us didnt have nearly as much success at juniors.
