  • SHM (Simple Harmonic Motion) is one extremely important topic for all competitive examinations for engineering and medical entrance exams. To get admission to IITs or NITs students preparing for JEE Main or JEE advanced, this is one of the most essential topic from which questions are asked every year.
    In this physics online video lecture of revision checklist of SHM, Ashish Arora Sir is explaining all the concepts of SHM on which questions are asked in JEE Main and NEET including energy of SHM, potential energy of shm, kinetic energy variation in shm, cases of calculation of time period of SHM in different situations including shm of simple pendulum, shm of spring block system, shm of a floating body system and shm of a body under spring combination.

    40:12 Before dropping m2,
    Let the height depressed from natural length be h1
    Now, m1g = kh1 ( At Equilibrium)
    h1 = m1g/k
    Now, m2 is dropped and the height depressed from natural length be h2
    At equilibrium position, (m1 + m2) g = kh2
    h2 = m1g/k + m2g/k
    h2 = h1 + m2g/k
    So the max displacement from mean position is h2 - h1 ( It is clearly evident if we draw the diagram)
    So, Amplitude, A = m2g/k
    And Time Period is T = 2π√[(m1+m2) /k]

    At 40 minutes 28 seconds
    First of all I calculate the equilibrium distance of block M1
    Can I calculate the equilibrium distance of the combined body of block M1 and M2
    The equilibrium position of block M1 will act as the mean position for the component system of the bodies and then I calculate the height difference between them and I took this as the amplitude of the combined body
    Means amplitude is equal to H2-h1
    Where H2 is the equilibrium position of the combined what is and H1 is the equilibrium position of the M1 block.

    and at extreme posn y=plus minus A
    so a=-w^2[y]=plus minus w^2 A [ as y=plusminus A]
    means a= plus minus WA(A)=(A)*velocity at mean posn
    as velocity at mean posn=v max=AW
    so sir we can relate acceleration,velocity at mean posn and amplitude by the reln a= plus minus y * Vmax or y*Vmean posn
    without differentiation..
    can i say this is correct sir?

    40:00 answer for the question would be (m1+m2)g/k-m1g/k I calculated the mean position as mg=kh1 then (m1+m2)g= k h 2 then subtracted the 2 lengths . Can you clarify if this is correct thank you @Physics Galaxy

    Thankyou sir for uploading these checklists these are very very benefical, but can you please arrange checklists of maths and chemistry .
