  • James Lanser looks at one of the most common Venezuelan entry points to Trinidad: The Icacos.
Thanks to Shivam Teeluksingh for helping make this video possible by taking me to the Icacos and even to some migrant families.

If it was reversed you think Venezuelans would be as welcoming to black people trying to migrate to their country? All you have to do is watch how blacks are treated trying to migrate in other parts of the world.

Trinidadians has already gone to Venezuela. Many venezuelans whose parents are trinidaddians has gotten their trinidaddian citizenship and now they are back in Trinidad.

way too simplistic and very overall perspective. You're fitting an 'american perspective' of life in a place that has nothing to do with it. Just because your country is racist doesn't mean the rest are.

Are you "from" New York, or did you "move" from Trinidad to New York?
If that's the case why did you move to New York, perhaps to seek a better life for yourself and your family?
Likewise I am sure the Venezuelans too are trying to find a better life for themselves.
Live and let live I say.....

Ask the question why Venezuelans leaving South American countries that ALL talk their same language and share their same culture sans Guyana,Brazil, Suriname...etc and coming to small little Trinidad? Colombia is right next door, so is Guyana. Ecuador,Peru..ABC islands, but they all rushing into Trinidad, why? because they know they can get in without any problem criminal or not. With weapons or not, been deported back numerous times to Vzla and still being let back in T'dad. They know Tdad doesnt have a system or a strong system to hold these ppl like the rest of countries so its a free for all. I have Vzln family so I know, and this is whats being said.

Venezuela is 82 times biger than Trinidad, the east coast is very far from the west coast, what I try to say is Trinidad is closer to the east coast of Venezuela, two ours travell by boat, any way only 20 tousands are travelling o living in trinidad because where they live buying groseries is very expensive. do not take me grong, food prices are taking most of our salaries because of the USA economics blockade. they are doing everything possible to isolate us from the economic world.

Excellent commentary and context of this growing problem. Much time has passed since this video was uploaded and all that has changed is the COVID-19 virus has spiralled.
Given the high numbers of recorded cases in Venezuala, one can easily surmise that migrants may be one of the factors contributing to the soread in Trinidad.
It must be noted that the numbers are much lower in Tobago, or even our northern neighbours, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Barbados and the infection rate is very low.

@ 4:53 - Far from only Venezuelans, its also the swarms from in & around the middle-east. Both 27th. July 1990 & Nankissoon Boodram are proof of this. T&T is a small third world country with limited accommodations, jobs, law enforcement, commodities; etc. It simply cannot accommodate all these foreigners especially when they are bring their deadly ethnic ways along.

Great video Mr Lanser.... However.... In journalism one has to present two sides of a story i.e the pros of Venezuelans were highlighted by the questions you asked (gentleman in the vehicle you asked the question to) but there are also many cons to that same question.... Journalists are to show both sides of a story unbiased and neutral... Because it will show one's hidden agenda of a story.... My two cents

every one is positive here, yes you must help your brothers and sisters but you must watch over your country but peaple take it too far the level that they are disgrminating each other too show you man weakness is money in our days and the man or country who can overcome it in poverty and stay in is own track in life don't trouble no one and still live a prosperous life is a powerful man or country. Peaple! you don't need a house for shelter or a bed to sleep as long as you ain't troubling no one.
That's why I love bob Marley and rafarian cause they don't believe in the program of corruption and human inequality. Hallie silasi fi life 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
