Even after more than 100 years this rifle is still working like it came out fresh out of the factory 10 minutes ago.. Im proud of our german quality :)
Beautiful weapon. I especially like the shell ejection mechanism and how sharp and clean it is. They just pop right out of there. Like I pointed out in the Lebel video's comments, that gun's spent shells don't really get out very easily (I saw at least one get stuck in the breach), but you can all see that that's no problem here.
I fired both once at a trial shooting afternoon on a road trip to Belgium and ended up buying and bringing it back to my range in the UK. Even though its one round less in the mag, I personally find it much more reliable and it’s way more comfortable in the shoulder compared to the Kar98K ( probably because they had much more time to manufacture the gewehr than the Kar98K. )
Very nice gun there! I may be biased as I have one myself! I wanted to ask you where you get ammo for it or of youve rechambered for modern rounds. I want to shoot mine so badly. Thanks for a great vid of shooting this beautiful rifle btw
Thank you sir I appreciate it. I get my ammo from my local gun store, Its decently priced there. Mine is still chambered in the original 8mm Mauser caliber.
I was curious how you go about shooting this under 400 yards with the rear sight set at a minimum of 400? Some people have modified the front sight because of this and other say there is a technique to aiming that makes it easier. A response would be greatly appreciated! 😁
Mostly length/weight differences. The action, fire control group, and basic styling remains the same. The bolt handle on the K98 was turned down, as opposed to the straight handle on the Gewehr 98. In addition, the K98 never had the massive "Lange-Vizier" roller-coaster sights.

This and the Smelly :)
That roller coaster sight is a beauty to look at.
I love that sight. Possibly one of the best, if not the best bolt action rifle ironsights ever.

This rifle was Paul Mauser’s masterpiece.
This was the main rifle of the German army during WWI until 1939 when it was replaced by the Mauser karabiner 98k during WWII
Elijahdoesmine9 2nd channel I thought it was until 1938 no?
Oh OK sorry
They were replaced in 1935, but some of the Gewehr 98s were reused by the Wehrmacht in WW2.
In ww2 us by ss snipers to

Oh that sound is so amazing. The rifle itself then the bolt. Oh what a beautiful gun!

I’m just in awe that you got your hands on one of these!
I'm in texas and I found a few fir like $1000
Dang! That bolt-action! It's so smooth!
For 100 years old gun, this rifle still amazing.
Undoubtedly the Germans had the best guns of WW1 and WW2
Bruce Steveson probably one of the only reasons they lost was because basically they were at war with the world along with some countries like Japan
Well, they're Germans. Germans always make the best quality of everything.
I honestly liked the Arisaka rifles more.
Maybe except the pepesha in ww2
What about the garand
0:00-0:30, those aren't dead leaves, those the amount of spent cartridges that he's left behind.
What’s interesting about your G98 is that it’s made in 1915 but it has no finger grooves. Most Gewehrs from that time would have those
I have a german Gw 98k made in 1908!! Great video
The slow motion footage made it sound like thunder

Its odd how the sights on this are so much better than the k98s
They are really the same though
SpookyLizards if you think it’s the same then you’re probably blind. The kar98k lacks the huge ass Lange vizier sights.
Except they are zeros for 300m which is ridiculous
Y'all are some good ass shots. Hats off you to you
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Cleanest sights ever
I fixed one of these up got rid of the rust and fixed the breach barrels to weak for modern rounds though
I just needed a clip of someone using the mauser, reloading it and having a close up shot of it so i can replicate it in a game. Thank you :)
The bolt is incredibly smooth
Loving that iron site view
This video made me thought about me and the German boys in ww2. Yep, you made me thought about Kar98k.
The sky is the embodiment of the neighbor that lives down the road
The Kaiser truly did make a beauty of a gun
Germans must have been god like this guy to use that sight, it’s ridiculous how weird it is
The video we all needed
The only gun I've ever tried in my whole life. :-/

Honestly, I would aim under the target. Iirc soldiers at the time were told to aim at the belt buckle of the enemy

awesome vid, love mausers. may I ask what ammo you use?
Thank you, I was using surplus ammo
I'm a SMLE/SHT LEE fan but gotta say, the Gewehr has better sights and I really wish the Enfield had better sights.
Well No.4 Mk1 def has the aperture sights...which is a lot better than normal tangent style sights I guess
where do all these guns come from?
Evan Shepherd factories

This one was produced by mauser (is not produced anymore)
Can you do one videos of the SMLEE MKIII?

Germany seems to always have the better weapons in both world wars
Where tf can you even get onr
Cool
Where does one get ammo for this?
8mm? And how much those cost
Yes 8mm, and they go anywhere from $500-$1200 depending upon condition.
why is the bolt and reciever blued?is this austrian?because german bolts and recievers were not blued

From what I can tell, usually 400-800 USD, usually the higher end of that.
Milsurp are dried up. So this is at least $2000 now
