    You’re getting a bit slick there with the introductions, my friend. I love your site and I love your philosophy of relocating nests when you can and educating us about the ecological importance of yellow jackets and hornets. When I was a kid I kept a Black Widow as a pet. I set up a terrarium where she could have her web and I’d dab a little honey to attract the flies for her meals. I just couldn’t bring myself to kill her. My mother was not a happy camper about it, but she was sort of used to me bring in various insects. When I saw your site I knew I found a kindred spirit and salute you for your convictions.

    I recently had an infestation of German yellow jackets inside the wall of my town house. The biggest surprise is how aggressive they are about entering your house once the nest is established. They were trying to find cracks in the siding up to the top of the second level windows about 15 feet above ground level and more than 10 feet above the nest site. They were also trying to enter near ground level but 15-20 feet away from the nest. They have something called cognitive plasticity which means they can learn and memorize better than your average insect. It's a little disturbing to see that behavior with such a tiny brain.

    I remember, years ago yellow jackets built a nest in my sisters bedroom wall and my parents thought they couldn't chew through dry wall. But days later on a school morning, early morning, they broke into the room and stung my sister's multiple times. I got to see a short glimpse of it, but I wasn't afraid to go into the room because I didn't even know about wasps at the time lol. so yeah, the exterminator came and years later, now, I really wonder about where they built the nest, and what wasps they were, because I'm into wasp's now.

    • @PlayMoGame
      @PlayMoGame 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sucks that they can unknowingly invade our homes but wasps are awesome. All the parasitoid species that knowingly invade the bodies of their hosts, even some so tiny they lay their eggs inside of other insect eggs. Gall makers that manipulate plant tissue. Spider hunters including at least one that can dive in the freaking water after fishing spiders. Incredible stuff.

      @@HornetKingOfficial removals already? They only just started nesting here in MI. 😳 I upset a paper wasp queen the other day when she started building on our garage right next to where my 2 young kids swingset is (hard nope. But I tend to let those guys be if I find them where they won't bother anyone). She angerly buzzed around the yard for a bit before finding another spot.
