the half thickness jig is very accurate, it is the thickness of the pencil which creates the inaccuracy. The jig is very useful for the setting the height of a table saw or router depth. For marking a piece of wood a centre finder wood be better.

Where do you get the pads for the hold down stick?

I have seen them in The Reject Shop, Red dot and IGA, but all sorts of places sell them. Adhesive foam pads.

Hello Darren! Great video! Thanks for posting. I have enjoyed watching all of your videos on "3D Prints in the workshop". Quick question on the half height finder, is there any adjustability to the jig that might allow for calibration? Again, thanks!

Hi, sadly not. It might be possible to tune it to size with a file, or by adding a tiny shim, but that would be fiddley.

Hi I hope you haven’t covered my question before because that would make me look foolish. Can you tell me what stain or finish you used on your workbench? My top is MDF and I obviously want to protect it the best way I can.

Hi Ewen, for my workbench I first coated the entire thing in shellac and then, on the top, I put a couple of coats of wax over that. On my router table I user water based polyurethane then wax. The polyurethane is a more protective finish, but the Shellac is quick and easy to reapply. I figured that a workbench is going to take a few knocks and scratches during use, so this was the better way to go.
