@@danielanonimfox People don't have a say anyway. Govts. do, but they're mostly filled with old folk who probably don't care cos they see gaming, anime (cartoons you say?!) and manga as frivolous activities that need no industry oversight.
It's happening, they're experiencing a hostile takeover. The Japanese government wants a Japanese company in control of Kadokawa, and Sony is the only Japanese company capable of acquiring Kadokawa (that wants to). The only other real option is Tencent.... and some smaller companies in South Korea.
Kadokawa is much bigger than games and animation. It has published thousands of books and only a few of them are manga. In fact I own a Kadokawa Japanese dictionary. I'd hate it if Sony defiled yet another company.
The last thing, as a fan of Japanese pop culture, the absolute last thing I want is for Sony to buy Kadokawa. Sony ruined so much, not just games, but the whole western Anime distribution... With Kadokawa, we would lose BookWalker, and so go your Light Novel translations. Damn it...
Sony will make sure to sanitize everything with big censorships. No more accurate adaptations, all of the localizations would be botched. This could infact be the beginning of the end for entirety of anime culture as we know it.
Toei or Sunrise are bigger anime creators in Japan. And sony did not ruin so much at al lmfao. The acquisition will also be excellent for Fromsoft due to higher budgets and greater freedom as Sony typically gives studios a ton of freedom to do what they want. If the acquisition goes through, an added bonus would be, i am gonna love reading all the made up fairy tales about how bad things will be from you guys.
What worries me most is the fact that Sony is all too willing to embrace different levels of censorship to make their properties "more palletable to a wider audience." They already have a virtual monopoly on anime in the west, through Aniplex, Crunchyroll, and Funimation among others. Owning Kadokawa would allow them to directly influence the creation of Japanese media from the source. That plus potential (or likely) censorship is not something to be excited about.
@@Andronicus87Crunchyroll is the worst, not only for censorship but their translation teams often inject western leftist politics into places they don't even make sense contextually.
@@Andronicus87 Crunchyroll has been censoring anime since before Sony acquired them, though I never watched Dragonball on there so I don't know if they censored anything from DB specifically.
It will westernize the Japanese culture. Which was already being westernized but this will certainly accelerate the process. Especially with the youth.
@@unscbug12-52 on the gaming side, not really. Xbox buying Activision was closer ON THE ANIME SIDE HOWEVER...it's as close, if not closer, than Disney buying Fox yes, both these companies are in the anime business as well. Sony owns Crunchyroll. that is how big they are
The big publishers don't have a good record when it comes to studios they've acquired. Its more often destroying competition than helping make more great content.
วันที่ผ่านมา +2
Exactly just buying up competition sucking money out then sell off the spare parts
They destroy the competition, then spend a fortune on failures like Concord that almost bankrupt them. Meanwhile, the talented developers that Sony buys up leave to make new studios that can be bought up after a successful game or two for a fortune. How this doesn't end in financial ruin for Sony (and Xbox) is beyond me. You don't spend a fortune driving off competition while you also spend a fortune failing to trend chase.
This, literally not a single big acquisition has helped the studios. Bethesda is in the gutter, Bungie is at the brink of bankruptcy (well deserved and self-caused tbh), Blizzard is a mess, Activision is doing fine I guess(?), Microsoft is ruining Minecraft apparently. Where is the W? Where is the good acquisition?
This WILL ruin Fromsoft. These huge companies won't let them do what they do, and the top talent will walk. Whoever is left should put out a resume and get into a good studio, ASAP. Fromsoft makes brilliant niche games but corporate will constantly interfere to make their stuff "accessible". Bank on it.
@@Stu98765 Tbh I doubt Sony even cares about Fromsoft all that much. They're taking Kadokawa mainly for its anime and manga library, which is huge and far more valuable. Someone described it as if Disney merging with one of the other giant media titans. Fromsoft is only a relatively small part of the value. Who knows, they may even forget they own it lol.
Kadokawa is freaking huge. In fact, From Software can be basically just a bonus for Kadokawa acquisition. For your information Kadokawa apart their from software division, they have anime, music, light novel, streaming platform (niconico (dwango)), live action, multiple IP, etc. In addition, they also sell their product with its own translation while keeping spicyness to outside Japan. This acquisition means, yes, Sony will grow in power in entertainment especially Japanes live action and anime as a whole. With how Sony is doing now, eventually what you like will be subpar.
Kadokawa owns 85% of the light novel market by total sales, and a majority of manga as well between all their various publishing imprints. Sony already owns A1 Pictures and Aniplex, along with their recent purchase of Crunchyroll. This deal shouldn't pass regulators, but it probably will. They would own a supermajority of the Japanese anime and manga market at that point.
But the only thing I care about is Fromsoftwere, I don't watch anime or read manga or play mobile games, to many that's the most important part of the acquisition.
@@karehaqt Remastered poorly by ruining the original art style and OST. Also still locked to PS, it was originally planned to have a PC port but that was cancelled in favor of exclusivity.
Here's my absolutely NUCLEAR spicy take - Of all the worst-case scenarios, I think the best of those would be Sony doing with the Fromsoft library what they did with Bloodborne. Let me cook. We've seen Sony's track record with bloodborne: they have Gold-tier IP, here. They've got an IP that they could make the absolute bare minimum of effort with and still make more money than God - we're talking just copypaste, re-release with bugs and horrible optimization, soulless cash grab... and they would still make GAZILLIONS. And yet, they haven't. They've done NOTHING. This is good. Why? .... Look at Concord. KTJL. Helldivers. Last of us Online. Horizon Zero Dawn remake.... see the pattern? Everything Sony puts their fingers into gets absolutely ruined. I'd rather get NO re-release or port than something comparable to the stinkers that we've been served this year.
I'm really glad that you touched on just how much Kadokawa owns. Gamers shouldn't be the only ones scared of this deal, anime fans should be scared as well.
"We want Bloodborne remastered!" *finger on the monkey paw curls* But no, seriously. This is bigger than From Software. Kadokawa is a big company. Sony would damn near own Japanese TH-cam after this.
In the Manga/Anime circles that I am in, I am hearing rumours that Kadokawa actually approached Sony for this as some sort of pre-emptive strike against a potential Tencent take over. And major companies in Japan seemingly have a very strong stance against foreign ownership.
Kadokawa is one of the bigest anime player too, they do almoust 50% of anime production in Japan. So the actually worse part of this is that Sony would get a monopol on anime production considering they already are a big player themselve!
@@budgie9006 You're mistakenly labeling everyone's concerns "made up fairytales" based on your emotional attachment to a corpo. Everyone's reactions to the potential kadokawa takeover are completely justified considering sony's past history, mistakes it clearly hasn't learned from and will continue to make.
@@translatedbird Naah. The acquisition will be an excellent choice actually. Especially for Fromsoft. And no, i am not mistakenly labeling anything. It's all just a bunch of loonies moping and crying and over exaggerating. Also, i dont really have an attachment to Sony. All i care about is PS. The gaming sector. Even if i were to talk about the anime sector, that is also a non issue. Hopefully the acquisition goes though. Not to mention, with the recent reports, it actually looks like Kodakawa went to Sony for the acquisition. Any way, if this deal goes through, I am gonna love reading all the fairy tales on line.
rip pokemon mystery dungeon , kadokawa is also the parent company behind spike-cunsoft who make mystery dungeon games and fighting games like dragonball and jump force , they also publish games like cyberpunk and bg3 in japan .
This is for Sony to monopolize the anime industry, something they have been doing for years. We've already seen what Sony thinks about their exclusives being that literally every single one of their ips except bloodborne are almost all multi platform now. Sony wants more money, and it just might be their demise.
Thats the worst part. When Buying and destroying a company as consumer friendly and popular as fromsoft IS NOT the worst part of the deal, you know its a bad deal!
Well, at least here in America, the GOP/Republican Party, a very pro-free-market/deregulation party, have secured a super majority across all branches of government as of the second half of November. Expect near total encouragement of industry monopolization. Not just in the games industry, but _all_ industries.
Letting? Governments have a hand in it. Who do you think benefits from over-regulation? Who do you think has the power and influence to keep competitors out of the market?
@@truecaliber1995 Unfortunately, certain issues like crime, border and the economy are more important than entertainment, so it was the most desirable outcome.
The role of government in capitalism is to balance out the interests of the working class and the owner class (those who own the places people work at, in simple terms) We are in an era where the owner class can and do exert much higher influence over governments. So the interests of the owner class are served more favourably than the worker class.

It's understandable how that could happen in certain spaces, you can think of various reasons, like why bother say & remember good things about someone you dislike?
Most creatives normally leave when this kind of stuff happens. The company gets the IP, but normally not the people that made the IP good. The only people that suffer are the customers... on PlayStation because of exclusivity.
@Surkk2960 honestly if I'm TenCent, I'm hoping this happens... then you take Sony's buyout offer and approach Miyazaki to fund a new studio with exclusive publication rights
The only problem is that it IS under Japanese law and it's not nearly as easy to just leave a job in Japan (it's not at-will employment like most of the US)... Kojima actually had to get FIRED from Konami to leave
Sony has strict content guidelines which will definitely destroy animation and manga. Same for the games, which will be beholden to the same guidelines and more restrictions and more investors weighing in how the game is to be designed.
*Sony will have complete control over 85% of the Japanese anime and manga industry and this is definitely a monopoly,* Sony has become more Western than Japanese over the years and *censoring anime in the west is definitely going to hurt the anime industry especially the quality of the product* and this absolutely frustrates me about Sony especially since their reputation is dog shit with the anime community and with Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll absolutely sucks especially the customer service, so expect the quality of anime to go down because of Sony especially, since Sony is not giving a damn on fixing their own problems they have to buy everything becoming a monopoly and I hope that either Japan or even the West blocks this deal.
if they do this, i will honestly lose all faith in Fromsofts survvival. I love them but I will not buy another platforms console for the game tho. I won't support this kind of bs, Sony should just make their own games and stop trying to pressure people to buy their console or enter their ecosystem, you'll not be forcing me to sign into PlayStation to access the game I will literally pirate it at that point.
They have hundreds of IP's they have sat on for decades (Astro Bot proves this), but complain that they need new IP's to survive, what they need are people who have the creativity to work with what Sony already has rather than parasitically taking other's creativity and claiming it as their own. Then again, they are another Megacorpse chasing the Fortnite dragon, so it makes sense they waste their time with company absorption.
This would be really bad it’s already hurting enough that they try to completely monopolise the western anime marked through crunchyroll while treating their VA like shit. Now they also try to steal good IP and force them to do their bidding
The souls/born games took years to become what they are. Under Sony if the first game they make under them doesn't sell like eldin ring Sony will have them working in maintenance on other games.
Fromsoft has good games but they all are unfinished and even elden ring is maybe 40% finished game and rest of it is copy paste and clearly rushed. Why do people defend this behaviour from fromsoft?
@@qlcrane8019 More like artificialy bloated then unfinished, if they've cut the copypaste dungeons and made the game 1/3 or 1/2 smaller if would be much better game IMO, i have much more hours in DS3 cause is better replayable and has better PvP
Great, as if Sony attempting to buy Kadokawa wasn't bad enough for me from an anime and light novel perspective, now I need to worry about them gobbling up other game studios in the process.
RIP to another independent studio. Hopefully Sony doesn't completely destroy their creativity. If I hear the words battle pass or engagement optimization in the same sentence as From Software it's joever. They make good games and people play them there is no need for log in rewards and daily quests. Their game are good enough to keep people wanting to log in and play them as is they don't need fomo and crossover drivel
This fear is totally legit… Crunchyroll has a few more titles, but is far more locked down than before Sony. Part of the problem is the part of Sony that took over Crunchyroll were the buttheads at Funimation, but many of the business changes probably trickle down from much higher up.
But everyone knows now... there are no fig leaves left. Big studios buy smaller successful creative groups and ruin them with greed and incompetence. There's no mystery anymore. Any supposed upside is a lie. Incompetent executives at Sony are pushing this so they can extract value and then leave before stuff hits the fan, the soul of another art house dies and the wheels of the grist mill turn on. Start looking for the next Fromsoft, and enjoy your classic Souls games. Rue the day that the things you love become super popular.
This is bigger than From Soft. Sony will become the biggest publisher of anime and manga in Japan and will have a practically complete monopoly in publishing English translations. Sony has been infamous for sanitizing western translations to fit "western sensibilities", while Kadokawa is generally beloved for the opposite: putting out accurate, high quality translations. Sony taking them over is guaranteed to end that.
*The Elden Ring manga is actually really hilarious and I recommend checking it out* , BUT man I don’t want Sony messing things up for this beloved Franchise.😢
We really need one or two more big players, because this competition between Sony and MS is skewing the game development straight down the path of console at all cost and is killing the genuine development that new creators can provide. Instead of developing in the more dynamic environment of pc, they are having to always look at the console restrictions limiting their imagination and experimenting. Unfortunately the majority of players don't care as long as their habit is being fed.
@@KimAlmighty1 Is Tencent really the lesser of 2 evils here? Yeah it's a Chinese corporation but I don't recall Tencent ruining the anime industry in the west like Sony has done, not run their games into the ground to sell a service nobody wants. The only bad rep I know Tencent has is for its live service and microtransaction policy, but I do not recall them pushing that into gaming IP they own. Tencent usually lets succesfull studios do what they want and just invest in them to get a share of the profits. Also if Tencent buys Kadokawa it would not lead to an entertainment monopoly unlike Sony buying Kadokawa would. Tencent is trying to buy them too, Kadokawa wants to maintain japanese ownership so they approached sony to see if they had an offer. Sony is 100 percent better than letting Tencent take over
if sony does buy kadokawa, I believe the sony short case two years later will become very strong - they will spend a lot of money and squander it in bureaucracy and ego.
This would be another step to monopolize the anime industry as well. And with Sony rather wanting to pleasing the whole world to improve numbers, anime would prob. become more "westernised" with the accompanied censorship levels. This would be quite a downfall for creativity and art. Crunchyroll is a great example how Sony intends to forcibly direct anime developent by resticting publications in the west. Let's hope this doesn't happen...
Only silver lining I see is that folks at From Software actually have what it takes to "no thanks", ditch the company and start anew (Kojima-like) if they want. One of the few that could do that, and I hope that's taken into account during negotiations.
once you become extremely popular, its a countdown until you become nothing but another shell of a company who sold its soul to somebody bigger for money. rip creativity.
From a business perspective, it unfortunately makes sense for the Japanese authorities to allow it for a number of reasons. One of them is that Kadokawa is already partially owned by Tencent and there have been rumors for years that Tencent could plan a hostile takeover by buying up enough shares and Japan would rather see Kadokawa being owned by a Japanese corporation than a Chinese one. There's also the fact that the Japanese economy isn't doing too hot and there have been talks in government circles to solve that via inviting investment from large private equity firms. Blackrock controls 13 trillion (yes, with a t) dollars worth of investments globally, and they heavily push DEI incentives. Kadokawa has been hostile to this, while Sony embraces it.
Well there goes From. The writing is always on the walls with studio decline in this industry. It's almost always broadcasted years in advance. I saw it with Arkane. Saw it with Bethesda Gameworks. Saw it with Ubisoft.
Formsoft and gaming is just a small bonus compares to the real catch, Kadokawa's extensive catalog of Japanese films & animations. Combine with Sony's other contents from Hollywood, Sony may start its own streaming service.
And isnt that just horrifying in its implications. One of the biggest most popular developers in the WORLD, is but a bonus fry at the bottom of the Kadokawa bag.
What's worrying is that kadokawa WILL be sold, the owner family doesn't care about the company anymore, and Kakao and Tencent are trying to make a forceful takeover of the corporation, so rumor says kadokawa rather to have Sony buy them. So things will change regardless.
Ok, so coming here from Endymion's video. Apparently Japan's side of Sony is pissed with America's side which has been making flop after flop. So Japan Sony wanted to get ownership of From to make more games using their standards, rather than US sony. Plus, doing so would kee Tencent from getting majority ownership of From soft which they already had 17% of the shares. Is this good? I don't know. It could be. It could also be awful.
Why would Sony buying FromSoft ruin the studio? I'm indifferent to it, but given how Sony generally let their studios do what they want in regards to production and choosing projects. That's on top of the established relationship with and partial ownership of FromSoft. I don't know about the Anime and Manga industries, but just in the case of FromSoft.... nothing specifically changes for their process.
You’re a bit out of the loop, the recent trend is for big companies to buy a studio and put them to work on some game they have no business working on. Just look at the recent years with some big flops we had
@Talking_Ed Yeah, you didn't read what I said. Sony generally doesn't do that, especially with their best studios. Even if they mandate a live service, they don't even tell them how to make it or what to put in it. They only play test the ideas, to see if they're viable. That's it. Sony let ND stop making Factions 2, and never forced anything on Bend, SSM, SP, Insomniac, or Housemarque. Guerilla is still doing what they want, seemingly, and they've always wanted to make multiplayer Horizon games since the first game. Studio Bend also talked about making a potential Days Gone 2 have multiplayer, before the project got shut down...so them working on a new multiplayer game isn't them being forced to do anything. So yeah... PlayStation owning FromSoft would only potentially mean that their games are PS and PC only, and probably console timed exclusives. It wouldn't affect their process at all.
@@blackmanwithcomputer I'm going to assume you don't play the fromsoft games since you since your indifferent, but I might be wrong. For me the problem is ALL the things you've just said. Timed exclusivity, IF we get that (precedence Sony has set with Fromsoft titles bloodborne and Demons souls show that's a pretty big IF), would hurt the Fromsoft experience A LOT, these games since the first Darksouls have been as much about community exploration as hard bosses. Timed exclusivity would mean that large portions of the fanbase would have that stage of play irreparably damaged, which would hurt the community. Sony also, as you said, forces "additional monetization" onto many of their games, something Fromsoft has been adamant against since the beginning, so that damages Froms "consumer first" standing. and the obvious things to monetize would be multiplayer items or consumables, but could be as egregious as fan favorite weapons locked behind paywalls. Some things you didnt mention ,or are perhaps unaware of, is that in order to play online games Sony requires a PSN account, even if you want to play solo, and PSN accounts are currently unavailable in over 170 countries, which cuts From fans in those regions off from their games forever. Sony and From also have VERY different Ideologies when it comes to making games. Sony wants easy cookie cutter broad appeal cinematic games, with sweeping stories, lots of cutscenes, that they can monetize and churn out quickly. From takes a slower approach, making gameplay driven games, with subtle storytelling, and aren't afraid to delay games if they arent ready to ship. Elden ring took them 5 years to complete, the DLC took 2 years... Im not sure why Bellular thinks they churn out games quickly because they dont... They take their time. Those are the big ones I can think off right now in but I'm sure I'm missing something.
@@evilbass159 The timed exclusivity is what it is. People want a BB2 or BB Remake...as if either of those wouldn't be a timed console exclusive. Yeah, it sucks for gaming, but if their next game was BB2, even without being acquired, you'd have to consider getting a PS5/PS6 anyways. I never said anything about Sony monetization. I said how they generally don't force much of anything on their studios, nor do they tell them how to make their games. If you've paid attention to PlayStation, you'd see that they didn't really force the live service on most of their studios. They also let ND choose to stop doing it. The only studios making multiplayer games want to (Guerilla and Bend) or that's their specialty (Haven and Bungie). FromSoft wouldn't be forced to do anything. If anything, they would just ask for BB2, but then let FS cook. Like how you said that Bellular is wrong about FromSoft churning out games, so are you about PS titles. These games take 4-7 years to come out. 5 years between Horizon games, 4 years between mainline Spider-Man games, 4 years between God of War games (and 6 years to make the 2018 game), Housemarque haven't put out anything since 2021's Returnal, Death Stranding is going to be 6 years between titles, it took 7 years for TLOU2 and 5 for Uncharted 4. Ghost sequel took 5 years. They don't just churn out games. However, FromSoft as a studio has an efficient work pipeline, like Insomniac. FS put out BB in 2015, DS3 in 2016, Sekiro in 2019, ER in 2022, AC6 in 2023 and SotE in 2024. They cook very well, very fast. They would bolster the first party slate. Finally, I don't consider any of the PS games cookie cutter. They're just mass appeal. I could easily say that FromSoft has also just copy n pasted very similar ideas and tone over and over. Anything can be diminished, in bad faith.
from soft is like a cherry on top i highly doubt from soft is the actual reason for this its about the anime manga light novels and other book based industires
Ubisoft's stock dropped $0.20 in the past 24 hour. I wonder if that is because of Tencent's involvement in this FromSoftware deal. They were sniffing around Ubi previously. Probably unlikely that Tencent will try to do both.
I called it BS. Looking into western shit show gaming company with their DEI bullshit, I 100% sure there is no tencent hand for that. A lot of DEI games basically flop hard. Ubisoft just shown more as they don't have a good cash cow like EA with their FIFA. Beside some of company with Tencent share, some also doing fine or better (example Unreal).
Sony and Fromsoft enjoyed a good relationship and the exclusivity thing wont bother fromSoft as long as Sony is supporting them financially and giving them the freedom the other Sony successful studios have .. the only people who will be bothered are Xbox owners
Oh, don't start this shit. Dark Souls isn't difficult, it's just punishing. It requires three brain cells to spam dodge rolls. If you want a game that _actually_ treats its players like thinking humans, maybe try Factorio.
@@alaeriia01 and yet 95% of players lack the ability to actually, you know, think? That's why games have to shove tutorial after tutorial down your throat until they brainwash you into thinking you need it. That's what's gonna happen if Kadokawa is bought.

So while I understand and agree with the concerns about this. If this falls through then kadokawa risks being overtaken by one of two foreign companies. Tencent being one of them. It’s not what people want to hear. But this would end up being the ideal outcome. There is no happy ending for this. Just less bad ones. This is the least bad.
The biggest problem with Sony acquiring Kadakowa would be they have a monopaly on Anime and Manga. As _Chibi Rewiews_ said, "they can make changes at the source" meaning that there will be no "uncencured" version for the Japanese market, and a censured version for the other markets. This is bad, very bad. As others have pointed out, this acquisition is not about From Software. That is such a small thing, they could probobly have gotten it if they wanted.
@@nilge90 Not even a little bit. You can still get Microsoft and activision blizzard games on your console of choice, dont have to pay to play online multiplayer on them, and Microsoft doesnt have a habit of micromanaging companies to feed their churn factory.
It is difficult to forecast this because other reporting has a civil war going on in Sony between Sony Japan and Sony California. Without knowing who will win this war, can't tell what long term effects are, other than consolidation seems to stifle creativity.
If they do and were smart, they'd let them keep doing their thing.. But lets face it, how often are game company execs smart?? I can absolutely see Sony being moronic enough as to make them make a live service souls like and then wonder why it tanks..
As much as I languished in existential horror for most of this, my ultimate takeaway was "Elden Ring manga could get an anime adaptation." I've never seen Silver Linings Playbook, but I imagine it's like this.
I would not be surprised if they retroactively changed the elden ring lore to be more inclusive after the takeover, because the JP consensus that "foot-a" and "bodyswapping/genderswapping" in media aren't the same as trans, which clashes with the 0-nuance-allowed western perspective.
This won't ruin fromsoft, not at all. Fromsoft is closer to what Santa Monica or Naughty Dog. They'd be left alone to do what ever they want on their own timeline. The BIGGEST issue this could cause is in the anime and manga space, NOT gaming. Fromsoft would just be a cherry on top.
I would need citation on why PlayStation wouldn't ruin Fromsoft. Agreed its not the prize they are after for sure but Fromsofts game making ideals are diametrically opposed to Sonys game making ideaology. Sony wants to make story based, cinematic driven games, and Fromsoft want to make gameplay driven immersive experiences. The 2 don't really mix well.
@@evilbass159 fromsoft games ARE story driven, primarily single player games. Their stories just take more of a time investment to find and understand and aren't delivered with a bunch of cut scenes. Their game making philosophies are very similar. It's like I said, fromsoft would be treated similarly to how Santa Monica or naughty dog is. They're allowed to do pretty much whatever they want on their own timeline and make whatever they want to. Sony wouldn't mess with them bc fromsoft knows what they're doing and how to make good business decisions. Fromsoft is not Bungie, and Sony is notoriously hands off with the studios they acquire. Nothing would happen to fromsoft outside of making a ps exclusive here and there. Anime and manga is where the bigger issues would come up, not gaming.
This is SOOO much bigger than FromSoft. Just as a consumer of japanese media I DO NOT want Sony owning Kadokawa. It's a bad idea for everyone involved except the investors at Sony.
One of the reasons people buy FS games is because they are art and not just games if Sony takes that away from us then customers just won't buy them anymore, it's simple. So i'm not that scared in FS changing their style and type of games they make
Sony will kill the anime-manga industry with this movie, it will be if not close to the deathblow of it, Sony used to market itself as the "mature" console vs Nintendo but in recent years Sony has been censoring way more than Nintendo, they've proven that they are the Disney of Japan, they will ruin not just fromsoft with censorship *but* also anime by destroying manga/light novels from inception
My take on it might be controversial but really I don't give a f*CK anymore. The industry is a mess, but it really doesn't matter. Games aren't a necessity. They create something I don't like or on a platform I don't have them I just don't buy it. No hard feelings, no drama. I just smile when they complain about lack of revenue. Not my job to keep them afloat. The talent will take the check and/or maybe retire or start a new studio to continue their work. In the end you may not get another good elden ring but maybe a ring elden. Ips lose value as quick as they gain it in nowadays world.

Even if this goes through, one thing that will still never happen is Bloodborne 2. I want Fromsoft games to release their games for everyone as much as possible.
Exclusives sell machines and at this point are how you get high quality games different from 3rd party normal. In theory. Sony and Microsoft are forgetting that and are surprised at Concord and console sales issues
There are no silver lining in monopolies. The fact that Sony already owns a massive number of anime studios as is should be grounds for them not being allowed to buy Kadokawa. But I don't know if Japan even has any antimonopoly laws.
Tbh I doubt Sony even cares about Fromsoft all that much. They're taking Kadokawa mainly for its anime and manga library, which is huge and far more valuable. Someone described it as if Disney merging with one of the other giant media titans. Fromsoft is only a relatively small part of the value. Who knows, they may even forget they own it lol.
Kudos to the guy that created the studio. Building a company to that size and reputation and now selling it because he wants to do new stuff, he about to get paid big time. I am excited to see what he will do next if he continues making games.

Not if Sony of Japan pulls rank on the DEI that infested Sony of America and Sony of Europe.
That's Sony of America and I have a feeling Sony of Japan is about to discipline if not outright dissolve Sony of America.
Didnt sony moved its headquater from Japan to the usa?
Toei or Sunrise are bigger anime creators in Japan. And sony did not ruin so much at al lmfao. The acquisition will also be excellent for Fromsoft due to higher budgets and greater freedom as Sony typically gives studios a ton of freedom to do what they want.

That plus potential (or likely) censorship is not something to be excited about.

yes, both these companies are in the anime business as well. Sony owns Crunchyroll. that is how big they are
The big publishers don't have a good record when it comes to studios they've acquired. Its more often destroying competition than helping make more great content.
Well to be fair why is FromSoft up for sale? They probably want one more bag before they all retire.
This, literally not a single big acquisition has helped the studios.

Step 1: Miyazaki gets tons of money from Sony
Step 2: miyazaki creates a new studio
Step 3: release dark souls 3 3 spiritual successor
Ubisoft's stock dropped $0.20 in the past 24 hour. I wonder if that is because of Tencent's involvement in this FromSoftware deal.
They were sniffing around Ubi previously. Probably unlikely that Tencent will try to do both.
0.20€ is nothing
@@ni9274 They were only worth $0.22 to start with.
Remember when people used to be happy when a studio was bought by a big company? Now, just the owners of the studio and the corpo are happy.
No I don't, as far back as 2008 with Activision buying out Blizzard I remember everyone dooming about stuff like this always.
That would ruin Fromsoft, all their games would be terrible Concord clones
Sony and Fromsoft enjoyed a good relationship and the exclusivity thing wont bother fromSoft as long as Sony is supporting them financially and giving them the freedom the other Sony successful studios have .. the only people who will be bothered are Xbox owners
God, the one studio that released games that treated players like thinking human beings. Now its gonna be simplified walking sims...
@@alaeriia01 Both Factorio and Souls games are great, no need to spew bs for a pissing contest. Also Factorio is an indie game, in the AAA space there indeed is only like 3 studios left at most which still make meaningful games.
Knowing all Souls games going forward will never be on xbox if this happens is truly terrible.
This is the price we have to pay for Microsoft's Activision blizzard
Double standard
And Bethesda don’t forget. I guess Sony is allowed to spend around 90 billion in acquisitions to match those 2 from Xbox.
@@nilge90 Not even a little bit. You can still get Microsoft and activision blizzard games on your console of choice, dont have to pay to play online multiplayer on them, and Microsoft doesnt have a habit of micromanaging companies to feed their churn factory.
@@nilge90 this isnt about the gaming sector though this is about the anime and manga industries sony would hold a MASSIVE monopoly
New Parappa the Rapper made by FromSoft
Prepare for 15years worth of remakes, remasters of the remakes and PS6 pro enhanced 10 dollar patches of said remastered remakes.
As much as I languished in existential horror for most of this, my ultimate takeaway was "Elden Ring manga could get an anime adaptation."
I've never seen Silver Linings Playbook, but I imagine it's like this.
Reminder that Sony is now a Californian company... So expect the awful culture of that place to infest everything you love...
I'd love to put Sony in an Evergaol.
This is SOOO much bigger than FromSoft. Just as a consumer of japanese media I DO NOT want Sony owning Kadokawa. It's a bad idea for everyone involved except the investors at Sony.
Wonder if the rumors r true that sony japan is trying to buy it out to keep it out of hands of tencent who is interested in buying it.
One of the reasons people buy FS games is because they are art and not just games if Sony takes that away from us then customers just won't buy them anymore, it's simple. So i'm not that scared in FS changing their style and type of games they make
So, who's up for a live-service version of Elden Ring with a battle pass and Re:Zero skins?
not unless they cover up those puppies! Gotta think of the adult- er, I mean children!
@@anon1692 kadokowa is one of the few that still does that kind of fan service id hate to see sony botch it
If the next FromSoft games require a PSN account on PC, I'll just pirate them. Not dealing with that.
Feelsbadman
Is much rather Sony own fromsoft then tencent
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOT THIS ANYTHING BUT THIS WHY WHY WOULD YOU LET SONY OR PLAYSTATION HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU FROMSOFT NO MATER HOW SWEET IT'S NOT WORTH THEIR DEATH KISS!!!
"Could" ruin Fromsoft? It _would_ ruin Fromsoft, guaranteed.
Sony buying FromSoft and doing a Bungie to them would be peak Sony
"Doing a bungie to them" Bungie did that to themselves with their piss poor business management that company was in a bad state long before Sony.
Sony buying Kadokawa would be akin to Disney buying Marvel Comics and Lucas Films.
This is basically a push for a monopoly.
Just wait: Elden ring re-wokered live service version.
Cant wait for that battlepass. I wanna play spiderman in Bloodborne 2, but might have to buy him with blood tokens since my came time is limited.
Even if this goes through, one thing that will still never happen is Bloodborne 2. I want Fromsoft games to release their games for everyone as much as possible.
Exclusives are sad, but it is the nature of the beast. Everyone wants their 1up...
Exclusives sell machines and at this point are how you get high quality games different from 3rd party normal.
In theory. Sony and Microsoft are forgetting that and are surprised at Concord and console sales issues
Even if Sony bought Fromsoft they would not be able to make their games to be PS5 exclusive, Sony has to comply with regulators in Europe and the Us
@@ni9274So why aren't these regulators stopping Sony from making games from Naughty Dog, Insomniac and other 1st party studios console exclusives?
I am excited to see what he will do next if he continues making games.
sony is trying to monopolize the anime industry under the at least the publishing of it and thats SCARY sony has been bad for anime
I don't think it will have an impact on the game quality. It just means more exclusives, console jail breaking, emulators and 10 year wait times for game preservation.
A horrible consumer experience, but From Software will keep dominating regardless.
Miyazaki was right. ER was their last game.
He never said anything like that.
