Saw loads of Mer-Man in a British comic shop, thankfully they all had good paint jobs on the face so it‘s just isolated cases with a messy paint job. I’ve always had a soft spot for the “cat head” 😁 so I’m glad they did a widespread release using that.
My Walmart sold out completely of wave one.. I thought I was gonna miss out on the wave one figures but got really lucky ... we went to a small town about 4 hours away from my home town and I found them all .. was so happy

Loving Origins. Trying to go all in on this line, as it's the first time I've been in a position to get in on the ground floor of a MOTU line. I'm still missing a couple from wave 1-2, but it's going good so far!
I got the aquaman 2 pack when I was 10 or 11. I only know MOTU because of Mer-Man, Had to pick this up to put on my shelf. Great Review! Really informative for someone with no MOTU toy history knowledge
I loved watching the show on Netflix about toys we grew up with.. when Mer-Man came around and they were trying to come up with a name for this guy.. He said ... I Know let’s call him Sea-Man... and then he thought about it for a sec and said ....wait wait let’s call him Mer-Man ... I lost it.. that was so funny...
I finna take my Super 7 Man-At-Arms head and put it on Origins Merman's body to make a highly articulated cartoon version of Duncan. It IS my goal to be the coolest kid on the street!

Yeah, I gave up on the line after He-Man and Skeletor turned out kind of meh but I expected the scalpers and old school collectors to still eat them up at least. Every time I go to check for Mcfarlane DC restocks I am greeted by an insane amount of these guys. I haven't seen anything this overstocked toy wise since the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen days.
These toys haven't reach US stores yet because they are supposed to be release next year. Hell we haven't received wave 2 yet. Ordered Trap Jaw off of eBay for twice amount the money but had to get just one from wave 2. Can't wait to next year anyway because they won't be exclusive to Wal Mart.
I am so excited for this figure. He was my favorite dumpster figure as a kid. :P The smaller yellow eyes are a little strange, but not a deal breaker for me. I might try to fix them though. We'll see on that.
Other than the colors being brighter than I prefer, Origins Mer-Man looks fantastic to me! I like the "cat head" version more than that goofy cross-sell fish, so it absolutely works for my little Mastersverse collection. Thanks for another informative and entertaining vid!
First few figures had a decent if not perfect head resculpt, what happened to Merman ? Too busy to make it a little bit better? I must also say that ALL body/armor sculpts on the vintage ones stand out better than the new ones, with deeper and sharper details.
I like to imagine that Mer-Man's look from the PowerCon exclusive is the "legit" Mer-Man while the design from the retail release would be one of his minions. Both versions are great nonetheless.
One request/ advice to all MOTU lovers. Don't buy overpriced on eBay Amazon PR elsewhere. They will get more on stock soon. Also in Germany, UK, France etc.
So, Bigbadtoystore had a single-carded Lords Of Power version for pre-order (now sold out), and for the same price as regular figures. Any chance of the LoP version being released at retail?
great figure and great review Dan, just a shame on that sloppy paint work. even the detail on the teeth seem to be glopped out . I wonder if its possible to remove the paint from these and start fresh on them ?
It's a long shot, but I really hope we get another Mer-Man down the line at retail with the Lords of Power based head, in my opinion it just looks so much better than the toy based head.
Cool, now if only Walmart would actually get the products in. All Walmart's have the same, He-Man, Skeletor, Teela & Evil-Lyn figures, with the occasional restocks of Man-At-Arms & Beast Man.

I could not understand the sword design in some ways it looks like corn of the cob in a sword image. It may have been better if Mer-Man had a triton and often wonder if he had a Atlantean origin on another planet?
I still think he's worth getting, as the vintage toy Mer-Man does appear in some of the comics. Orko is the only figure in this line that was a complete fail (in my opinion), he is way too big.
IMO I like the vintage looking Merman over the LOP version..... yes the LOP has more detail and is better looking BUT I'd rather have the vintage looking one because he looks like the ORIGINAL Merman toy from the 80s
I got battle cat ..Man at arms and Evil Lyn at wal mart at the end of August and that has been it..My wal Mart has not stocked anything since then except battle cats...I hate Wal mart exclusives
The head looks better as Stinkor . I hope that rumor the lords of power mold gets released for retail even with less paint apps or something. Lords of Power is way cuter too.
It's so frigging annoying that those of us outside the U.S. don't get the text in the comics, plus a different cardback without the subheading under the character title! Absolutely ridiculous, Mattel!!!!
I was actually wondering what non US collectors thought about this - I'm in the UK and would prefer it in English but I wouldn't want to just assume that other non-English speaking countries would take that as the default (because obviously Mattel aren't tailoring it to individual markets) so perhaps it is a better solution. On the other hand - and I mean this as a compliment - a lot of other nations still speak very good English, so would it have been preferable to have the tagline, artwork and comic book with English wording, as opposed to having no blurb at all beyond the character's name?
@@jamesb3746 I'm sure its because in some countries (i have an idea which ones ;) )the law requires that the text must be in the first/native language. Still, it's extremely frustrating as a collector and I know as a fact that there are many collectors in non-English speaking countries who would not mind it being printed it in English and would prefer that there was at least some kind of text to read, even it it wasn't in their native tongue. Many collectors outside the native English speaking countries can understand English and for children it would at least serve as an exercise to improve their second language skills.
This is the worst launch of a product I have ever seen. I’ve never seen but 4 figures, all wave 1, in my local Walmart. I know they are releasing larger next year but by then I’ll have to try and catch up with all these figures. Not sure I want to even try now. Mattel and Hasbro need to stop with these store exclusives, it’s killing any interest I have in their lines by making so much of what they sell impossible to find.

Mer-man was my first heman figure i picked out in 1983 off the shelve. I love they brought him back and in different verants as well.

Sea-Man's "Corn-Cob Sword" is a jaw-bone with rows of teeth as the edges of the blade.

Shame the greens for both Mer-man and Man at Arms aren't closer as a Mer-man-at arms custom would have been great

yeah honestly, at this point, they aren't putting any effort into origins except for the packaging artwork

Was just at Walmart - have not seen any Wave 2 yet... I *did* find a Skeletor figure on a Man-At-Arms cardback, however. Huh.

I think Mer Man may be a lefty. The extra thick handle and knuckle guard would stabilize the sword in his left hand.

They couldve included his trident too since Mattel has been wasting plastic on additional items that come with he other origins figures
Huh? Which items are you talking about? Each figure comes with the same weapons they had in the 80s.
The only figures that come with bonus items are the deluxe figures , and those are more expensive.
