it's almost been 5 years, yet i still cry to this. what i find interesting is that everytime asriel speaks, frisk comes back with twice as many words. asriel KNOWS he screwed up, he knows what he did was wrong. he tells himself over and over that it's his fault. he did that. he was a monster. he can't forgive himself. he has it stuck in his head. however, frisk tells him it's ok. everything will be alright. that they'll be right be his side. frisk talks twice as much as asriel because just saying “its ok” won't help. he needs as much comfort as possible to let him know that it IS indeed going to be ok. this is just what i thought at least.

I also noticed that Frisk is singing to the theme of His Theme, which plays further in game, while Asriel is singing to the theme of Once Upon a Time, which is at the beginning of the game. Thought I'd point it out.
I just refuse to forget this game. Despite being very simplistic, Undertale has changed my life like nothing else has. I'll forever be thankfull for this game's existance.
Undertale is an underrated game it has a variety of routes each carrying its own message. Genocide being that in a quest for power emotions will be nullified. Pacifist being stay determined in what you believe in. They show this through the narrator who is CHARA. Toby also puts fun things into it however so you can love way more than just one thing about the game. Toby Fox even says he keeps Chara and frisk's genders unknown so you can put yourself into their shoes better by picking their genders
How do I describe this... Feeling. It's sad, but it's happy, but it's guilty, but it's relief, but it's loneliness, but it's hope, but it's grief... But all mixed together. An explainable emotion. But I can try It's sad, because it's relatable. It's happy because it's so well done. It's guilty because I feel like Asriel in this song. It's relief because I know there are other people who feel like me. It's loneliness because no one talks about it. It's hope because this song lets me believe that one day I'll find someone who'll make me happy. But it's grief, because my best friend left me, and this song reminds me of that. It takes a LOT to get me to feel emotions other than tired, and sad. But this was just so well done. The softness of Asriels voice trying to convince Frisk that he doesn't deserve them. The almost desperate voice of Frisk trying to console Asriel They're a contrast of each other, and it brings them into a masterpiece. I've been having what I like to call "the dark times" for the past couple of months, and this song has sincerely helped me. Thank you

About 5 years ago a game came out that would change my life and many other's lives. About 5 years ago this game that seemed so small bursted in popularity, sparking imagination and new creations everywhere you could look. Undertale... this single game spoke such a strong and beautiful message. I'm crying remembering those days; the first time I saw the game, the first time I played it. It certainly isn't the same now. I want to go back, man I want to go back so bad... Thank you Toby Fox for creating this and thank you to those who truly love this game and are still good fans.
It doesn't matter how old Undertale gets, i will always cry at the emotional parts, laugh at the funny ones, sympathize with the monsters who gave off so many good vibes, despite being trapped underground... And i will forever set them free. Thank you Undertale, you are a masterpiece.

This is my angst song these days. When I first played Undertale, I was in a point of my life when I felt like I was not only a worthless, pathetic excuse for a human being, but part of the filth that needed to be eradicated. I still haven't fully recovered from that feeling, but this song gives me catharsis and a moment of respite so I can continue fighting. Better than the alternative.
Almost four years since I made this comment. Another three since I first played through this game. I'm a radically different person than the boy who posted this comment. I related too hard to Asriel when I played UT. I felt I was the victim of my own life, not knowing how to articulate the emotional neglect and physiological starvation I was experiencing. I wasn't even in a safe environment where I could truly discover myself--that came in college, away from my family. But here I am now. 25 years old, trans woman, on her own with her roommate, still trying to figure out how the fuck to be a good person in any fucking sense. I used to belt Asriel's side for this all the time. But I recently figured out that I'm the only one who can SAVE me. So I need to SAVE myself where no one else will. I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet but I noticed that both Asriel's and Frisk's voices are reflective of their personalities. Asriel's voice is high pitched, warbling, almost pleading at times. It makes me think of how he's been so abruptly thrust out of the cocoon of childhood naivety and into cruel reality, he's scared, vulnerable, and desperate. He wants so badly to be loved, but he also knows that flowey is still a part of him, and that he can't control that part for very long, and he wants to protect his friends and family. Frisk's voice on the other hand, is steady and calm, almost monotonous. As if they are trying so hard to convince Asriel to let them help, they sound sure of the entire situation, but they also sound desperate, desperate to help their newfound family. Frisk mostly sounds determined, which I guess is basically their entire personality, so that makes sense. I know I'm probably looking into this too much, so no need to pay too much attention to this. I just have a lot of feelings and opinions about this game. If you've gotten this far, thanks for hearing me out! ❤

It’s 2020 and I still love this song. It really warms my heart. I’ve never played the game but I’ve seen walkthroughs. I really would like to play someday.
8 years since I first heard this song. 8 years... It's been a long time, but his song still gets me to cry. I know I was going though a rough time at some point in these last 8 years. I wasn't able to forgive myself for something, so then I resonated with Asriel. It's taken time, inflection, and battling with myself, but eventually... Eventually I was able to slowly come around and give myself the grace and ability to slowly heal my heart and forgive myself. I slowly came around to being frisk. If you're not ok with yourself, that's ok. Give yourself the space to not be ok, but try not to let it consume you. Let your friends in, because it's a hard journey to go though alone. You deserve mercy from yourself.

About 5 years ago a game came out that would change my life and many other's lives. About 5 years ago this game that seemed so small bursted in popularity, sparking imagination and new creations everywhere you could look. Undertale... this single game spoke such a strong and beautiful message. I'm crying remembering those days; the first time I saw the game, the first time I played it. It certainly isn't the same now. I want to go back, man I want to go back so bad... Thank you Toby Fox for creating this and thank you to those who truly love this game and are still good fans.

This is my angst song these days. When I first played Undertale, I was in a point of my life when I felt like I was not only a worthless, pathetic excuse for a human being, but part of the filth that needed to be eradicated. I still haven't fully recovered from that feeling, but this song gives me catharsis and a moment of respite so I can continue fighting. Better than the alternative.
Almost four years since I made this comment. Another three since I first played through this game. I'm a radically different person than the boy who posted this comment.
I related too hard to Asriel when I played UT. I felt I was the victim of my own life, not knowing how to articulate the emotional neglect and physiological starvation I was experiencing. I wasn't even in a safe environment where I could truly discover myself--that came in college, away from my family. But here I am now. 25 years old, trans woman, on her own with her roommate, still trying to figure out how the fuck to be a good person in any fucking sense.
I used to belt Asriel's side for this all the time. But I recently figured out that I'm the only one who can SAVE me. So I need to SAVE myself where no one else will. So tonight I sang Frisk's lyrics and directed them at myself. I'm gonna fucking make it. I'm gonna be okay. This is all just a bad dream.
Thank you Toby Fox for making such a wonderful piece of art. I'll never forget it, and I can never thank you enough.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet but I noticed that both Asriel's and Frisk's voices are reflective of their personalities.
Asriel's voice is high pitched, warbling, almost pleading at times. It makes me think of how he's been so abruptly thrust out of the cocoon of childhood naivety and into cruel reality, he's scared, vulnerable, and desperate. He wants so badly to be loved, but he also knows that flowey is still a part of him, and that he can't control that part for very long, and he wants to protect his friends and family.
Frisk's voice on the other hand, is steady and calm, almost monotonous. As if they are trying so hard to convince Asriel to let them help, they sound sure of the entire situation, but they also sound desperate, desperate to help their newfound family. Frisk mostly sounds determined, which I guess is basically their entire personality, so that makes sense.
I know I'm probably looking into this too much, so no need to pay too much attention to this. I just have a lot of feelings and opinions about this game. If you've gotten this far, thanks for hearing me out! ❤

8 years since I first heard this song. 8 years... It's been a long time, but his song still gets me to cry. I know I was going though a rough time at some point in these last 8 years. I wasn't able to forgive myself for something, so then I resonated with Asriel. It's taken time, inflection, and battling with myself, but eventually... Eventually I was able to slowly come around and give myself the grace and ability to slowly heal my heart and forgive myself. I slowly came around to being frisk.
If you're not ok with yourself, that's ok. Give yourself the space to not be ok, but try not to let it consume you. Let your friends in, because it's a hard journey to go though alone. You deserve mercy from yourself.

Undertale gives me a reason to live. There is the fandoms, the cosplays, the community, the lessons. It is so beautiful. I hope Toby knows that his game changed many people's lives.
