If you have loss of power or disconnect battery, do you need to reconnect the system by pulling out the head unit like you have to do with the front camera system? Thanks!

When Apple car play is being used and you put the car in reverse does the regular back up camera w/ sensors kick in? Also, if you’re using Apple car play and you click on the Birdseye view button does that also work normally?
Yes, the regular backup camera with sensors will kick in when engaging reverse gear while in Carplay mode. Birdseye view button will also work normally.
Two questions: First, you didn't show the placement of the device. Is there enough room to place it behind the radio and how did you attach it? Second, does it matter whether or not you have navigation on your Highlander as mine has that and it appears the one you are replacing doesn't have it?
Yes there is enough room right behind the radio and also towards the glove compartment. It doesn’t matter if you have navigation or not. Both are compatible.

I have a 2017 Highlander XLE and a Samsung Note 10+. I don't see the etune 2.0, and etune 3.0 is not supported on models lower than 2018. Will the system listed on your website work on my car? Also, do you have any stores near Sacramento?

Edit: I see that this product is compatible with it but will I run into any errors regarding having a certain OS version on the infotainment system? (To specify I have 59.00.572 and I don't wanna go through the trouble of making a serial connection to install firmware, so would installing this go around that?)
You won't run into any iOS errors. As long as your phone is functioning normally you won't run into any issues.

Can a better microphone be added to the package to bypass the car's original? I have a 2016 and the mic is poor quality from what I hear from people who I talk to on my phone.
That is due to the iOS13 glitch that is not pushing calls to car Bluetooth. This can be fixed by selecting the vehicle bluetooth manually when calling or receiving calls on your phone. Or if you would like we can send you a microphone to use calls in AUX mode. Using vehicle's bluetooth will yield best calling experience but using another external microphone will be better than how you are using it currently. Jelena Mitrovic installed into my Highlander and was easy. The hardest part was just squeezing it in the rear. The screen in CarPlay mode is slightly fuzzy and contrasted for the backup camera some but it sure beats not having CarPlay. I give it thumbs up but also may explore replacing the head unit.

@GPap They have an adapter to connect the existing USB but I opted to run a separate so I can use my factory system the same not losing them.
Can you post a video or pictures of the screen using google maps and Apple Maps? I would like to see the clarity of the information on the screen especially text like the roads and streets. Are you happy with the unit? Any problems since the install? Thanks.
Hey, I saw the question about the 360 camera and your response that it says it dosen't effect it, however when i go to order one on your website (with the link provided) it says that it is not compatible with the 360 system, can you clarify this. Do all the regualr factory menus/ and setting work with this system as well? Also you ship to Canada right?
I apologize for the confusion. Initially we thought the 360 camera would not make a difference but when we actually tested it would not work. We are working on a solution now but don’t expect to have one until the end of the year as our development has been temporarily halted due to coronavirus.

Wade Hemrica it would just be a firmware update but will require a special tool to update it. As such you should wait until we have the fix

This product does not come with a new screen or bezel. It reuses the screen that you have
Quick question. So when you use CarPlay, it uses the external mic connected to your device and not the mic that is built into the vehicle by Toyota?
Our current kits now use mic that’s built into the vehicle by Toyota

Absolutely they work well together
This generation of Highlander was notorious for radio reset issues due to the Eutune unit. We recently bought a 2015 and it has the same issues (radio unit constantly shutting off / resetting, especially when connected to Bluetooth). Does this method get around those problems, or is it best to just replace the entire unit with an aftermarket stereo?
Adding our kit won’t fix any preexisting conditions unfortunately
I have a 2015 with no issues, however if you want to replace ur radio, I'd suggest either the ATOTO or Joying radio units...Or the saiata Radio is good as well (might have spelled wrong)
How the “bleep” do you fit all this back into the dash?!? Shoving it in doesn’t work and the HDMI cable disconnects under pressure.
There’s some room behind the radio between the top dash and right below it. Small opening is you don’t have the top dash speaker. Also some room on the right side of the radio towards the glove box. If you have the full optioned highlander you’ll have to organize the wires and move them around to keep all the open areas “flat with all the extra wires and harnesses. Also turn the connectors to be flat and parallel to the radio.
I have a 2012 Toyota Highlander limited. If I buy the apple car play box, will the Highlander have the ploughing system same as the apple car play box that you were connecting in the video.

I wanna daisychain this somehow with the bypass but theres no room for any more modules behind the radio. Would be cool to use bypass also as cable for carplay.
There’s room behind and top area of the radio. If you need more space you can go to the right side towards the glove box. If you need even more room, you can route the wire to under the glove compartment area behind the carpet.
Can you use the usb plug in that comes in the car under the a/c panel?

It does not affect the climate control display

Can you play the built-in SiriusXM's music while using Android Auto Waze?
Yes, you will need to download the XM Radio app on your phone. Or you can use the car's native XM radio while in Android Auto Waze mode but the turn by turn direction will not be audible

Yes it is possible to listen to music from flash drive while Carplay is on. However, the turn by turn direction voice will not be heard
My volume was already set at 56, is there any way to get more volume? I’ve only tried a phone call. Any tips on where to put the two boxes and wires? Doesn’t seem to be much room behind the unit.
I finally got it all to fit! Next one will be easier 😂😂. It is actually a pretty easy installation. Your videos are what makes it that way. I have a 2014 Highlander. Any volume advice?

No you won’t lose those functions
Finally can see what is "behind the curtain". Been impossible to find this info - could you make a video that shows the entire back of the unit and show what each connection is for? The small bottom box on the unit...Is that the SiriusXM receiver? How can I get that upgraded? Toyota also shorted us there as well by only providing a basic receiver (limited channels) and not full access (all channels). I don't want to use my phone data for something that is already paid for. Do you offer something to fix this - or can I just upgrade the antenna/vehicle kit or is there a box to switch out and yet have the exact functionality as before? Thanks!

@@randomrazr no i haven't bought anything yet. Still looking. However, this product is the closest I have found. I really just want CarPlay/Android Auto and upgraded Sirius XM while keeping everything else in the factory radio (backup camera, steering controls, dashboard display, USB ports, etc). I wouldn't mind replacing the whole unit but again having all the features I want is challenging at an affordable price and ease of installation. Every full replacement with a new unit I've seen requires new microphones, GPS cables and the backup camera is iffy at best. So frustrating.
Is the controls on the steering wheel working in Carplay or the only option is using the touch screen? How to activate Siri?
Siri summon needs to be via touch screen, by pressing the lower bottom corner button. Or you may speak "hey Siri"
With this integration would we still have the “easy speak” Toyota functionality?

Yes, you can play the car radio stations at the same time. However, the turn by turn direction sound will not be heard. To make it work, we recommend downloading the radio application on your phone.
while in apple car play mode, the USB audio will not work since source is on Aux, right?
You can change the source to usb to hear music through usb audio
I have a 2019 XLE Highlander. How do you secure these new boxes like the CarPlay/and the other. Do they just float behind the existing radio? I really like the idea but it would be nice to know how the new hardware is secured. Entune is such garbage. Thanks in advance.
If you have the model with JBL, since you have a speaker right behind the radio it’s going to be a super tight fit. I recommend dropping the glove box and mounting it behind the carpet towards the center console from the passenger side

At the moment we don’t have any plans to release a carplay kit compatible with 360 cam equipped highlanders. However we have smartphone mirroring kits that’s compatible

The factory USB port on my 2014 Highlander does not provide enough power to charge my iPhone XS (apparently it’s a common issue). If I buy the extra USB harness to that it uses the factory USB port, will it provide more power so that it will charge my phone? Or will I have to route the extra USB port somewhere to get more power?
The charging power will be similar to factory whether you use the additional USB harness or to use the supplied usb extension cable

what about firmware upgrades, is this unit upgradable to fix bugs and add new features, to make sure it continues to support newer ios and android versions as the technology continue to improve. any installers in the DC/ Baltimore MD area. thank you for the great installation video. and review
Firmware updates will be provided for at least 5 years if needed. New features will be added if available. Any local reputable installer who is willing to read and follow instructions can install this kit as it is plug and play. My pleasure!

Depends on the update. Update for the Carplay box will be VIA USB connection. Any update to the interface will require you to access the interface box. We are not expecting any more firmware updates on the interface box.

The voice button on the steering wheel is locked to the toyota voice commands. You will have to long press the bottom right corner of the carplay interface to active Siri or you can also state your command “hey Siri”

Only one box has the usb. You can either use the USB adapter to use factory usb or use the usb extension cable and route it separately
Why NOT use the new adapter/to continue using the original USB port? What would be the reason for running a new usb wire off to the side? What do people lose when they choose to do one over the other?
