@@77professional As someone currently fighting Sam yeah... Sam: "Hey, have you had a taste of this dirt yet?" Me: "Wait wha-" Sam *Slams me face first into the dirt*
I do enjoy your attempts to explain the meaning, but in this case it's quite different, though still a very understandable take if you don't know better. It's about the character Jetstream Sam, a man who spent much of his life hunting down cartel members and criminals in South America in response to his father being killed by them, who taught Sam how to wield a sword. Basically, he ends up being hired by the villain of the game after he loses a fight to him, and through out the story he finds himself on the side doing rather despicable things that while he doesn't necessarily disagree with their overarching goal, he begins to feel that they and he by extension are doing the wrong thing after all as he watches and talks with the hero. By the end he challenges you a duel to see if his cause is the truly just one or if Raiden's (the hero) is the true way. Ironically, of all the characters you fight, he has the least in the way of cybernetic enhancement, only having a cyborg arm that he got after losing the aforementioned fight against the antagonist. He is more human then the majority of the enemies you encounter and the game make a point of showing how unaltered he was after you kill him.
And still, even with just the cybernetic arm, he smoked raiden right after Raiden effortlessly took down a metal gear ray The weakest Brazilian male smoked the cyborg who just bisected a giant mech
Please next do Sundowner's theme, Red Sun It's kinda impressive how close you are by just listening to the lyrics Warning spoiler alert, though this doesn't spoil any of the main game since his backstory is only really touched on in the game's DLC One mistake you made though, the thing he fights against isn't his machine part, it's the realization that his goals are and always have been completely impossible to achieve He lost his reason to fight, yet he still continues to fight, because fighting is all he is now
I really would love to see you play the game, to know all of the characters so that you can talk about them. And I think I am not the only one who thinks that.
The interesting part about Sam is, in fact, that he has almost no internal machine bits, as Raiden states after the fight "He barely had any cyborg enhancements". Our Brazilian Samurai has been a mercenary for most of his life if I recall correctly (feel free to correct me if I misremember) and as the lyrics state he ended up forgetting why he is in fact standing there and holding his blade/fighting. As others in the comments already pointed out as well, if you disarm Sam the fight gets harder, by a lot actually. The Blade he wields was inherited by his father if I remember (again, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) and was a tool for killing and not for justice, unlike Raiden's Blade.
The thing with game music nowadays is that it's quite often adaptive and dynamic, meaning that particular parts of the song will change to suit a particular moment. The same goes with this game. When that chorus kicks in at the action's climax it is the best shit ever.
if I recall correctly, this is Sam's theme, the most biological character in the game, the guy's so badass he only has a cyborg arm because he lost his original meaty arm against the meme machine juiced up in nanobots but, he has no enhancements beyond what the cyborg ninja suit/armor does, unlike others like Raiden, if I'm not wrong not even his face is real, he is just some brain and spine within a fully artificial body
This boss actually is the least augmented, and near the end. Only a mechanical arm, which isn't anything fancy either, just some supplemental armor on otherwise. Something that is tremendously impressive to compete with a world of militaristic state of the art augmented killing machines, it shows he was incredibly skilled. His is a purely moral dilemma of who he has become and what he wanted to be and do. The ending of the song, is him passing it on to you. He remembers why he started this path, and what he fought for; entrusting you with that dream, to see it through without straying from the path like he did.
Thank you so much for your work! I would really love to see your reaction to some of Xenoblade Chronicles 3's OST. Something like "The weight of life", "Moebius Battle" or "Ultimate Enemy"... Keep it up!👍
For a character that only showed up for like 30 minutes they gave Sam a pretty deep backstory
I mean he had a whole ass DLC
@@frankie3010and it was a pretty decent one too
@@frankie3010 speaking of ass, sam is baking a big one
Man no one ever mentions the little Japanese touch with the flute that just gives it a pinch of samurai flavor 🎷
It also kind of invokes Old West vibes when it mimicks a bird.
Weakest Brazilian vibes
Fun addition: his lyrics stop playing if he drops his sword during the fight!
😆

Excited about "I'm My Own Master Now" and "Rules of Nature"
And collective consciousness
"I'm My Own Master Now" needs the analysis the most. Though I kind of hope he knows which character it's for ahead of time, for just that one.
I really would love to see you play the game, to know all of the characters so that you can talk about them. And I think I am not the only one who thinks that.
The only thing I know for real is that you are right.
There are FEW games where the music is more integral to its storytelling than Metalgear Rising.
@@Slays_Media maybe Dmc? Bury the light is really good at that.
@@Saeshy04 I wouldn't say it's quite on the level of MGRR. That said, I also haven't played much of the franchise. 🤷♂️

Same logic is present on Psycho-pass main theme. The system vs the humanity. Another great piece to listen

Adaptive music works in-game only. As a soundtrack it sucks!
I like how whenever you say the machine is winning I just remember that Sam’s only machine part is his arm
