The v may also sound different depending in the spanish accent, but generally the aspirated v like in french or in english isn’t like that at all in spanish and its more like a b. If you have even a bit of knowledge on what these languages sound like, putting them apart is baby easy.

There is this basic, generalized, idea that if you are in America, your school probably won't be making sure that you know where Deutschland is relative to, say, France or Romania.
