It’s incredible to think that even though Canada treated its indigenous people’s wrong.. We still rose up to the call of duty. And by doing so we’ve gained the respect that we have asked for so long.
I worked in an aged care center in Burnaby where there was an Indigenous veteran- his service was the proudest event in his life. He never missed a Remembrance Day and carried himself like a soldier even though his body was wasting away. He impressed me a lot.
My grandpa is in there his name was senator hilliard ermine. When the words talented scouts shows up he is on the far right . We still got his gun he used during that time.
I can’t see how this can be disliked... these people fought not because they had to, but because they wanted to protect our land that we all love. I say our land, I mean all races of Canada.
My grandfather's brother was a soldier in WW2, he survived the war and was awarded a chest full of medals. Indigenous soldiers proved time and again their worth to Canada including my great uncle Johnny Austin. After coming back to Canada he was murdered.
I never learned my great grandpas rank but here we go. Frederick Weasel Fat. 1st Canadian Division. WWII. For me. An indigenous warrior and a reason why I chose to become a cadet. Eventually I'll make my way into the forces. For now, IGY6.
It's insulting, actually. .. doesn't say anything about how signing up forced our men and women to give up their identity as part of Canada's policy to rid itself of the Native populations as their way of continuing their Land grab! Nor about the continuous fight in your courts for what's left of our land base, further depleting our dollars held in trust, which was supposed to be used to benefit our communities with much needed resources since now being forced to remain in one location. So many issues with this propaganda!
Its been recognized and no native peoples where actually forced in the war in fact the government didnt want or expect them to and this isn't about white men who fought and died in the war its about everyone so stop bitching and be fucking grateful. Remember the sacrifice of the brave men who fought in the war and stop your whining whats in the past cant be changed but improved on.
Carrie Lester u know what else is insulting people like you who complain when there is a video right in front of you telling you to be thankful of our freedom yet you are here saying this is insulting like do you want to be inslaved somewhere probably not with you're family?????????!!!!!
i am thankful for ALL veterans, not just the indians. I find this video to be racist towards non-indian Canadians actually. Why must we always have to embellish a certain group of whiners? Can we not just be recognized as Canadians??
I agree - but the fact is that Indigenous Canadians had to give up their treaty rights (in perpetuity, for themselves and future generations) in order to be permitted to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. They did so with pride, and their contributions go largely unrecognized and unacknowledged. Until we recognize ALL as Canadians, we owe it to certain groups to help them stand out.
we all bleed the same blood and we all live the same lives. my grandpa was a code talker, I never met any of my grand parents because they had hard lives and died before I was born. we all fight for freedom which transcends time and space. who cares about there colour of your skin. are ancestors fought beside each other especially in the war of 1812
