You got some great advice. Hunt for unique items and/or cards that you’d prefer to buy in person. The other, common stuff go after if you stumble onto a great deal. The National flies by and you only get to enjoy and experience the show one time per year. Hanging with the community is an amazing experience!

Could you do me a solid and look for 1957 Topps Moe Drabowski in a PSA 4.5? Good centering, at least 2 sharp corners, great colors, no print dots on front but one on reverse ok. No gum stains acceptable on either side

Fair question, but one without an easy answer. There are collectors at the show that run the whole gambit of that. To one guy, bringing a couple of hundred dollars is a lot. To another, they wouldn't even think about walking through the door with less than $10,000. Some guys love sitting at a table a rummaging through dollar boxes. Others are looking for high end vintage. It really just depends on what you are looking for and what you can afford. I don't know if I answered your question, but I hoped it helped a little.
Have fun at the National, Mike! It's my intention to make my first trip to the National next year in Chicago, it's really helpful to hear tips on what to bring. BTW I had to chuckle a little bit when you said you hope you didn't bring enough perfect fit sleeves.
