Thanks, I remember you doing that differential seal to a friends truck not long ago. This is like working on a watch compared to that. Thanks again for you support and friendship
What's the DiF? Actually that was my 1st trip into a VW differential. And it was quite in lightning. I really feel I'm a 'trans builder' now... sadly I don't think that will translate to my hands. But I'm getting there thanks to you. Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd House On the Left 🏠
hey their ez .when you removed the ring gear with the smaller bolt would it not just slip past the threads of the ring gear? ps i love the smell of gear oil in the morning!
The ring gear with the smaller bolt is brand new after market. No name on the gear or the box. I will heat it up and try it if I get a longer bolt which is manditory.
Hello EZ, I love your Transmission Tips! Question you said the 4.37 wouldn't be good for street launch. My question is why? Is it not strong enough? If so what setup would I want to go with for the track? Thanks for sharing! =)
The German 4:37 would probably work fine for a long time. I was referring to the Chinese 4:37. What gear ratio you choose depends on many things. Weight of car, tires, Engine HP and RPM. If you want a nice review of a race tranny check out VWdarrin on race transmission questions answered
Hi,Is the after market ring gear meant to fit an earlier gear box?.Or do they have different gear box set ups for 1300 and 1600 engines?. If so are they tagged on the outside so you know what you got?.Really enjoying the gear box series, never to old to learn new tricks.
Although the earlier gear box did come with a 4:37 gearing it was in a swing axle style carrier. The bolt length is the same and my super diff which is old style has the same flange thickness. Unfortunately I don't have any totally stock stuff in that arrangement laying around. Thanks so much for the input friend.
Stumbled across your (Great!) Videos yesterday and I'm going through them. I have a couple of questions for you. is there a forum you frequent or another way to reach you aside from leaving comments on your videos? Hope you see this since you posted this quite a while back. Thanks for these!

Awesome stuff GZ... I need to save this series off into a vault. I'm betting they will come in handy some day.

Great series of videos. 👍
Thanks for your support
Excellent lesson !!!
Looks like the outer edge of the new ring needs deburred - looks like burrs from machining.
The most friction is created with the same material rubbing itself. So which gear is softer, the ring or the pinion?

Damn gear .you was just gettin to the good stuff. Man the teeth on the stock gear are much deeper than the new one
I am kinda bummed out right now. Might just put it back together as a stocker.
Nothing wrong with that. At least I can trust it then.
