@@bfd_videos The fact you have not yet reached that height seems to validate one of the first key points: this movie series does not get the attention it deserves. And obviously also doesn't someone who puts their very brains and heart into such a lovely piece. Anyway, I watched, I liked, I subscribed, I shared. Your turn, algorithm!

Fun fact that acted that plays the mini boss in this movie also is a mini boss in Temple of Doom.

I often wondered how Spielberg got melting Nazis past the sensors who gave it PG but needed a PG13 for Temple? I thought the melting Nazis were WAY more gruesome than the ripped heart but that’s just me.

It was most likely the dark atmosphere, the child slaves, and Indy being possessed and hitting Short Round. Raiders is generally a lighter tone than Temple. That would be my guess.

PG-13 didn't exist until after "Temple of Doom". It was actually invented because of "Temple of Doom", at the suggestion of Spielberg.

Raiders was originally given an R rating for the ending, to get it down to the PG, the flames were superimposed over the shot of Belloq’s exploding head, which didn’t have them originally.

It just hit me that the Raiders opening takes place in Peru, and that they go back to Peru in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Does anyone know if the jungle chase in Ilha Aramaca is supposed to be around the same in universe location? Both scenes were filmed in Hawaii.

Did some Raiders of the Lost Ark fan wiki searching and the Peruvian jungle in the first film is set in the Chachapoyas region of Northern Peru. Not Ilha Aramaca, which is just barely over the border into Brazil.

Have you read the rewrite of Indiana Jones 4 that's going around? It's fantastic. Also, I personally don't buy the "Indy with a minor" thing. Yeah, I read the transcript of the conference, and yes, the script does say she's 25. But guess what? Things change as movies get made. Karen was 28 when Raiders started shooting, and she definitely looks and comes across that age. That's really what matters; the end result, not the planning. To go along, the "it was wrong and you knew it" line I always looked at it that she was barely experiencing love for the first time, that she loved him more than he loved her, and he hurt her feelings. If she really felt that he had broken the law and done something illegal to her, her reaction would be very different. Something along the lines of "you deserve to be in jail" thing. That's not what the movie ended up about. My two cents

I agree that she didn't mean it in a way of "you belong in jail" as it was not illegal to be with someone that young back in the 20s-30s. You're definitely reading her line correctly

I never picked up on the fact the Indy raped an underage age girl….. 😢 jfc!

Yeah, certainly not his best moment. Of course, we have to keep in mind the culture of the time. It would not have been illegal to do that in the 1930s (outside of the fact that they were not married) but it's clear that he used her.

I have no dog in the fight, but I wouldn't ever say Indiana "raped" Marion Ravenwood... it was clearly a consensual relationship. Indy definitely "used" Marion, to a degree. If Raiders took place in 1936, that means their relationship took place sometime in the mid 1920s. Older men often married underage women back then. The age for legal marriage in Massachusetts and New Hampshire is still only 14 years to this day. Indy was a womanizer, but it fit his character. Definitely a creepy subject, though.

It is unfortunate… but you can take at least some comfort in the fact that it was basically just George Lucas being an absolute weirdo… he originally wanted Marion to be 12… yeah, disgusting. But fortunately it’s not really that important of a detail to to movie. Not to mention around that point in history it was unfortunately common and teenagers were considered “adults” much earlier than we rightfully do now. The takeaway is George Lucas is gross but Indiana Jones as a character doesn’t deserve to be tarnished bc one executive producer is a trash human 🤷‍♂️
