Unlike most people in the music industry today, who are simply snatching up whoever looks the most marketable and is willing to just do as they're told, making them sing whatever boardroom written trash that gets put in front of them and burying their actual voice under a dozen layers of auto tune because they can't actually sing for shit in the first place.
I have a theory that Simon knew exactly what was going to happen when Jonathan walked out on that stage and opened his mouth and then that glorious voice burst out of his chest. Jonathan is phenominal plus he's such a sweetheart. Simon doesn't mind looking the bad guy, it's all smoke and mirrors. After the final he had them both signed up . You should hear some of his more recent stuff, he is without a doubt the best singer I have ever heard in my life.

Johnathan has taken up the mantle since the great Luciano Pavarotti left this world in 2007. So heartwarming to see younger generation of singers come up behind the all time best opera stars of yesteryears. There are still a few alive today, but at least we have people like Johnathan who continue to carry that torch, in honor of those great ones that are no longer here.
Bre, you have such a beautiful pure spirit. I cry like a baby every time I see this audition - WHY do we judge people on our outsides??? It's so sad, heartbreaking, but when you have such a God-given gift, it makes no difference what the naysayers think; talent is talent and there's no getting away from that. Jonathan's voice is incredible, breathtaking. He went on to forge a career in singing and I frequently listen to him and watch what's going on in his life. Peace and love, sista, peace and love ❤

He was misjudged in the beginning just like Susan Boyle and Paul Potts were on BGT. Simon always softens after he realizes that someone is good and he can make money off of them. Well I don't think he made much. There is no information on Johnathan signing a contract but he did singing appearances and was invited to sing at an event hosted by Pavarotti. Sony signed Charlotte to a pop music contract but I'm not sure how she did. Johnathan is still making appearances to sold out performances in 2023. He has done a number of songs in an operatic style all his own.

I'm pausing this for a moment to say that I'm here fully for your reaction. I came across this video at the beginning of COVID and, of course, recognized the talent. I searched to see what had become of Jonathan and Charlotte and found a video of him doing John Denver's classic Country Roads. It literally made me cry and now I'm obsessed with other people's reactions! The best part for me, I don't like opera. Never have and really, still don't. But this young man's album Going The Distance is a great near opera experience. Oh I hope you love it!!

6:38 I get what Simon is saying. Charlotte has a great voice but when she's singing alongside Jonathan you sometimes can't hear her at all because he has a much more powerful voice. Simon looks at acts from the record contract selling view of things, in the modern world(unfortunately) with a duo like this people are going to want to push the focus on to the pretty girl instead of the larger boy(I'm not calling him ugly or anything like that btw he is a lovely looking young man) so he would get his talent held back.
I don't think Simon was talking about how much focus either of them was going to get at all, he was talking entirely about their voices. I think he was referring to the fact that Jonathan's voice completely overpowers Charlotte's, and to perform as a proper duet he would have to majorly knock down his own performance just so she could match him. Other than his comment at the start of the video, Simon wasn't being mean at all, he was being objective and honest, which is actually far more beneficial to them in the long run.

The best part is that they had two successful albums as a duo and then went on to separate successful individual careers, which continue.
