      @@neethum600 if you happen to have a rose garden center near you. Mabey try checking around there. Mine always has a section of some chipped pots (nothing that could make it useless) that are heavily marked down.

    OMG your story is my story sis. I researched for over a year trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I got lost in the matrix of gardening and all the so-called success tips from basic agriculture to star/sun/planetary alignment. Most of my delay was built around anxiety of being as organic as possible and from past experiences of killing plants I was not eager to fail.
    Then one day I was at home depot making a budget list and just decided to purchase a city pickers patio raised bed container garden and went for it. At that moment I was like "the hell with it...let me just try." #BestDecisionEver.
    When I tell you it has been so surprisingly therapeutic and fun getting dirty. I get my weekly dose of vitamin D being out in the sun and it has really improved my mood. For all you ladies out here struggling with anxiety, anger and all of the above due to whatever has stimulated it, I am telling you that tending to my little patio garden has helped me gain much more peace. Putting my energy into the literal earth has fed me in ways that I could not imagine and did not expect. I was literally doing this to save money and am getting some therapy and self care simultaneously. YES!
    I have slowly been adding more beds and buying more seeds. 3 months later (I started in September) and I am nearly ready to harvest my red russian kale and have turnip greens sprouting (I started from seeds). I've lost and aloe plant and some pepper seeds so far but I do not feel like a failure. I am just refining my now green thumb. I am learning as I go since I exhausted researching the research on my researches. LOL, so Just Do It Ladies AND KEEP IT SIMPLE.
    The most helpful videos I have found have come from black and indian women. They keep it simple like my mom. Start simple then get complex. Everyone else explains the science without giving relative meaning and that is a major step they skip. Thank you Ifeyinwa!

    The actual garden tour starts at 05:35 and I forgot to mention how often I water my plants! I'll test the soil by dipping my finger in it, and if it's dry I'll water it but if the soil is still damp then I'll leave it alone. At the moment I'm watering my plants every 1-2 days except my aloe vera plant which I water every 10-14 days:) I hope you find this video useful! Please leave any gardening tips you have below!

      Aloe plants are resilient, don't require much watering or attention. They take a licking and keep on ticking I've had them for years. They keep on multiplying.

    Great video! When you plant something new into your pot make sure to gently loosen up the roots before burying the plant. Also, I’m not sure if you immediately set up your garden once you bought the plants but it’s usually best for the plants to stay in the plastic container you buy them in for 2-4 days. Replanting them on the same day you travel with them can be a huge shock to their system, especially plants that aren’t already healthy! :) Learned this from my Oma! Have fun!!! This is beautiful and inspiring

    If you have a sharp point knife like a steak knife, you can make your own holes in cheap plastic pots. Just apply even firm pressure while turning the knife, it will eventually make a hole because the plastic is relatively soft. You can do that with plastic bottle too if you want cheap pots to start plants in; or a drainage pot to put inside a cover pot.

    I have been planning on starting a veggie and herb garden for about a year now but this is the motivation I needed. I have been trying to grow an avo seed into a tree on my window sill for about 2 weeks now. I can’t believe I have grown into liking home & garden content and videos, crazy what age does to you😅
    Oh and thanks for linking the shelves! Hopefully they ship to SA💜

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha YOU CAN DO IT! And I can totally relate as well, all content I like has changed so much now I'm getting older lol. If you can't find the exact shelves in SA try searching for regular plastic garage shelving for some reason that was much cheaper to find than garden shelves:)

    Your patio garden is beautiful, live plants beautify any area. I live in California in Los Angeles and I have a cute home that has a 6000 sq foot lot. My backyard is huge my gardner and I will be working on it soon putting grass and flowers and I want a raised garden. But there are racoons and stray cats running around that i am worried will destroy it. So i might just do flowers. This was a very cute video.

    Oh by the way, about your scotch bonnet (very very hot) is best to take off the buds for the first two weeks after transplanting. After that you can let it flower.
    I learned that by chance last year when I happened to look up how to grow peppers. Also, I found out to never buy tomato plants with the flowers on them.

    I enjoyed your video. I actually have a garden house that is 8x16. I do container gardening and have thought of doing shelves similar to yours. Currently, I use plastic storage bins that seem to work. I am sure that eventually, the plastic will get brittle and crack but if things go as planned, I will be able to ugrade to something better in the future. :)

    The one plant that didn't survive as you stated was probably overwatered. Your soil does not seem to be well draining and with thorough watering this might lead to problems. For next season I suggest mixing in some sand or pearlite or use different soil. Happy growing :)

    Every year I plant herbs on my balcony, but it'd be against the condo rules if I place plants racks, so have to keep the pots low. I bring them in during the winter. Does it get cold where you live.

    Hello from south London, love your video , I'm doing the same thing as you are , u only have a balcony, but I'm planting a lot, but I recycled my water bottles and plant my vegetables.. your aloe vera plant will grow better in the Bathroom, they don't like to much water and don't grow well in the cold..❤❤❤

    Some of your plants may need just indirect sunlight. So they might look weak in current light conditions. Try keeping weaker one's in indirect light for some time.

    my question is i living on the 3rd floor apartment and what do you lay down on your balcony floor so the people down below don't get dirt or water on them when there out on there balcony?

    what size pots did you go with? I'm hesitant to go the 5 gallon bucket route, it seems like this is too big for what I want to grow

      I tried an organic insecticide that I got from my local garden centre but it didn't work so well. Recently I've been using neem oil, Castile soap and water mix.

    Miracle grow is really really bad by the way. Never buy it for your indoor plants. It has fungus gnats in it. I'm going to be trying to get 'live soil' this year. Anything with worm castings would be good too. Go organic. It's better for you too.

    • @erikaroy2549
      @erikaroy2549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
