Ha ha . This is great , Just discovered this video in 2019. A schoolfriend's father had a 12 in length of rubber compressor air hose . In one end it had a short maybe 3/4 inch bolt ,it was also sand filled and had a cork at the other end keeping the sand in. He was bailed up in a subway one night by two punks, apparently one blow felled one of the attackers and the other saw better than to continue and decided to bolt.
Hi. There is a variant of this that I've seen as a kid. I went to a Christian Brother School in the 60s a and 70s and the Brothers used a 10 inch (or so ) flat sap that was reportedly lined with silver coins within. If bold (according to them) You would get slapped on the palms or arse. Boy did it smart. thanks for uploads.
Probably. What came to mind at first for me was when cops would use them as attention-getters. Knock on a door or especially a bar (wake up the drunks) with some extra authority.
I was thinking about this and I wonder what your opinion is, but like in my stats illinois blackjacks are listed as illegal but theres no mention of saps or flat saps well flat saps are totally different things so they should be ok yo carry legally then right?
I researched this kind of thing pretty exhaustively for my book. State by state and jury by jury it really varies but my overall lesson was that people fail more often than not when trying to use technicalities like that if arrested. You're exactly right in your thinking... what I'm saying is that it won't matter if a judge and jury decide (incorrectly) that your flat sap is a blackjack. Not saying your argument wouldn't or couldn't work in court but it's a very unpredictable thing. They might read their legal definition of a what a blackjack is and say, "close enough" when considering a flat sap or the like.
@@ObjectHistory very interesting, yeah like I said in my state illinois I havent seen really anything about them in past cases(maybe I just dont know where to look) but I've always wanted to put a flat sap in my back pocket and carry it, it's just such a great versatile weapon
Considering how light (say half a pound), smooth and innocuous it feels... a lot. That being said it wasn’t designed to do maximum damage, far from it. That’s one of the interesting things about these IMO. But with someone who knows what they’re doing, they can break bones or worse.
@@ObjectHistory In the late 50’s and early 60’s, these types of devices fell out of favor with almost all police departments for the simple reason of how they were being used...as an intimidation or a torture device. If you ever see one used, you will quickly realize how ineffective this device is. Chances are, if you try to use this on someone of size or determination, they are going to take it away from you and beat your ass with it.
Very cool history and post,I have an old S&W sap I bought at an antique shop for 15$. Still in Very serviceable shape

Nice historical reference with the leather maker
Thanks. I'm really glad I got a hold of this one for that reason.
Just picked one up at an estate sale..$5!
Was this leather maker based out of Lincoln NE?
Yes
All those little craters were probably from whoever was using it having it in their back pocket, and sitting on concrete or something similar

Why dont you demonstrate?

Yeah, they're my favorite. I can finally carry one here in TX for certain starting next month.
What type of damage does this do?

Object History can you get knocked out without having external damage?
In as much as that’s possible with a weapon, yes. Please don’t hit anyone with one by the way :)
Object History no i think someone used that on me before
