Great video. Clear and to the point. Thanks for your time. BTW, after I took the closet door off, I found that the screws were loose and the door was hanging at it's lowest point. Thank to your video I looked at the correct side.
So I just pushed a stool partially into the closet, loosened the screw, lifted the door with one hand, and tightened the screw with the other. Took 15 seconds lol. Thanks for your tutorial. It told me how to do the adjustment.
This can be one of the most frustrating tasks. I have reviewed many videos on this, and I found one that says you need to check the thickness of the roller hinges. The two thinnest go on the back panel. There was a very fine difference in the thickness, but that solved my problem. Another tip is you can, in some cases, start by putting the roller in the track and then screwing the hinge into the door. You will need someone or something to help you hold the door up while doing it
Hi Mike. Great video. I'm a tenant and don't want to spend on new doors. I can't get the screws to tighten because the hollow wood is worn. Any ideas, wood filler, perhaps?
Yes they are cheap doors...wood putty won't hold, but you might be able to create enough tension with toothpicks jammed in there, or even a wood golf tee. For the golf tee you will need to glue it and pre drill for the hole. I would try the wood toothpicks first and jam enough in the hole so the screw has something to bite into.
This was the best video about fixing crooked closet sliding doors. Clear, to the point and we'll presented for upper and lower rail sliding doors. You made my day 😊. Thanks for your video! It repaired my problem!
Hi there. I think this will help me in my situation as well. But my closet seems to have a different hardware for the sliding door. For my closet I see more a circle that’s nailed to the top part of the door. I can’t upload a pic or else I would show u.
Whoever invented the sliding closet door, consider yourself an opp, every house ive been to, always had a broken slider door. It’s almost like they want us to keep paying
Hi I am 13 and me and my parents don’t know how to fix my closet door and it is not like yours so my mom told me to tell you can you make a video how to fix different type of closet doors thank you
Do you have a video explaining how to get the rollers on the top side of the sliding closet doors to stay in the track? Our rollers are not wanting to stay in place. Not sure if the track groove has been widened or what.
@MikeKlimick Hi Mike, the roller has fallen out of the sliding thing and I was not able to put it back. I even tried to soften it with the flame but with no success. Can you help please? 1:39
Unless the wheel is held on with a screw or other fastener, you will likely have to replace the wheel assembly. Take it with you to make sure you get the right one!
@@MikeKlimek hi Mike, the wheel is still attached, it's the white roller that has slipped out and I cannot put it back. It's very tight! I have a photo but cannot attach it here
Hello Mike. My problem is my door (the second type with tracks at the bottom) is off and I can not replace it in the tracks. Is there a trick ? Thank you!
There really isn't a trick although they can be large and cumbersome. A helper might do the trick. Also check to see that the wheels are in good shape and roll.
I have morrored doors working like in the second half of the video. Adjustment is no problem but why do they keep coming off the track? They have convex wheels into the tracks at the bottom. Excellent video by the way, thank you.
It may be that there is debris in/on the track causing the wheels to come off of the track, or there me some "slop" in the wheel assembly, or the plastic wheels may be chipped or damaged. My guess is that either debris at the track or the plastic wheel is damaged?
Hi Mike - thanks for the video. basic question , it seems I have to replace the whole door itself. May I know from where you got this solid core door in US?
I don't know if your door rolls from the top track or rolls on the bottom track, but it sounds like whichever it is, it is not level. You can try adding some shims to the high side to get it level and then trim off the shim
Thank you so much for the quick response and my apologies, I should have clarified that my door rolls from a top track. I’m not sure I’ll be able to figure out how to add shims on my own but may be able to get some assistance :)
@@vanessab1061 Wherever the door settles will be the low spot, in other words, gravity will take it there. You could try to add a deck screw and pull the track up (if there is a gap). Probably a good starting point would be to remove the doors and place a level along the top track to see where it is out-of-level and then determine if you can place a shim between the top of the track and the bottom of the closet opening, or if you can pull up the low spot with a deck screw to get it level. Once it's level, the door won't have anywhere to go but to stay where it is placed. Good luck!
If your door hangs from the head rail (like in the video) and your wheels are still attached, then you probably don't need to replace them. You should replace them if they are damaged. It can be a pain to get the wheels into the track correctly.
@@MikeKlimek I managed to get the one problematic door in the track. I measured both closet doors, and the problem door is about 1/4" longer than the other. This longer door scrapes along the carpet. The rollers above are already set so that the door is as high above the ground as it can be. Is cutting the bottom of the door the only solution?
I cut the bottom of the door by 1/4" ish. I don't have a circular saw so it's not perfect, but it clears the carpet. I still have a very hard time getting the rollers into the front track. The rear track is no problem. I think it's the angle that I can't get due to the front panel covering the tracks.
I switched back to the 1/2" offset, and it went in. I was trying a 1/4" offset in the front but that made it impossible to get the wheels in. Right now I have 1/2" offsets for both the front and back doors. Is this ok? I could go buy 3/4" offset wheels for the rear door. The doors don't hit each other right now. The other closets in the house look like they all use 1/2" offset wheels only.
Sounds like you figured it out to the point where they work. You can add a divider to keep the doors from swinging into each other. If you need the 1/2" wheels try a local door supplier@@ryan124007
Hello Mike; My problem is with the bottom on the mirror sliding door. It keeps coming off the rail from the bottom. I desperately need some TH-cam advice- Sandie
A few questions: Do your doors hang from the top and are separated on the bottom by a plastic guide? Or do your doors roll on a track on the floor? What is the rail you are talking about-the plastic guide or the metal track on the floor?
My closest door is on a track on the top and bottom. None close properly and now 1 wheel on the top of the door is completely off the track and the door is now harder to open and makes a screeching noise
It sounds like the door rolls on a track on the top (like the video) and has a guide on the bottom. You might need to remove the bottom guide, put the door back on the top track, and reinstall the guide
Mine has a front and back door that slide side to side not together and the back door came off track and I'm not strong enough to put it back I can't get it to stay
Try removing the front door first...that should give you enough room to get the back one back in and then reinstall the front door. If it's too heavy then you probably have no choice than to get some help. Should only take a minute or two

@MikeKlimek what kind of grease / lubricant do you use for the tracks.

can you add bottom rails to those hanging doors to keep them tight in the spot?
You don't need to, just install a plastic divider (or make sure it is in the right location)
I wish you were Indiana!😂
In mine closet case , the balance is ok but wheel has come out of the track and not getting back
You will have to play with the angle of the door to get both sets of wheels in the track, and then let the door hang back down from the track
