Just a bit of context behind the terrible programming, James day (the voice of fatz among others in this show) was the one tasked with programming this tape. There was an original revision of this tape that was programmed and showed to one of the management team, and in the guys words “it looked as if they were having a seizure”. I can imagine after programming an entire 15 minutes worth of movements wasn’t a quick task even if not up to RAE standards, but having to start it again from scratch probably wasn’t the best news, hence the evidently rushed and slow moving product we have in the video.
And the audience are actually enjoying it, singing along and clapping. Imagine these guys fully restored and turned back to the RAE, Boy they would be blown away.
Compare this to their original version: Rockafire Explosion, and you'll see why it's so bad: The animatronics are extremely stiff with little movement, the voice acting is very bad (plus they made Loony Bird a girl for some reason), and the music is very poor as well

Cybers compared to CEI bots are extremely basic, but I think it’s the nostalgia element of these guys and the cybers for example that it is for people. I used to go and see this set all the time when I was a kid, so I really do understand where the original commenter is coming from. On the other hand, it would be nice if they had better programming on this specific show (called hoedown throwdown, us fans call it the 2011 show). The programming was a lot better on what we call the 2008 show (which came out in 2005/2006). Video is on TH-cam with a similar title “hard luck bears aka the rock afire explosion at gullivers kingdom”. This particular show in this video though (2011 show) was programmed using a new system called anchos that gullivers started using do their light shows and programming for other things, but it’s really made for lights. With that, the grey box was also replaced with a big relay control unit.
@@Balootoyoutoo That is true. But CEI bots are completely different than Cyberamics. And yes, it does come down to a matter of nostalgia for who likes which bot better. But the bots in this video ARE CEI bots. So i think it's pretty reasonable to compare these to a show that's programmed good. CEI bots aren't meant to be programmed so terribly, they're more advanced than cyberamics, so they're meant to move pretty realistic. Cyberamics, while stiffer and lacking as many movements as CEI bots, still look great because that's how they're meant to look like. It's not the bots themselves in this show that's the problem, it's purely the programming, the voice acting, and the writing. While it's completely fine to change up the show to be your own, It's just not good. I mean, even Cyberamics have better programming than this.

This is a disgrace to animatronic bands, the voice acting is mistitles and show writing is even worse. And those awful moments when they awkwardly pause for an answer... The programming is not much better either. If your programming is so bad that people think the shows broken, you've got a problem.
Okay, in hindsight this comment is extremely harsh. Sure the show as a whole isnt great (content wise not mechanically) but another operating rock afire isn’t a bad thing and I’m sure kids love it. I hope these RAE shows from over the sea will be operating and entertaining soon!
@Animaniacsfan2013 I think its because Gullivers programmed it themselves so the programming is a bit shabby, their cylinder speed is way out aswell, as you can see Billy Bob's mouth is a bit too fast, probably something to do with the air outlet valve being open.
Even though I do wish some of the voice acting was better and the programming was a lot better, at least the audience is having a good time I think it’s adorable that the audience gets to play along with the band

This show has terrible programming and the characters personalities seem off than they usually would with the original rockafire explosion. I mean, just listen to looney bird. However, the songs are banging and earle’s voice in this is genuinely so funny i love it. I absolutely love how they handed out instruments to the kids to join in.

A little bit of programming combined with some mechanical issues. One of the Rock Afire HLB retrofit sets in the UK did get restored recently. I'm not sure about that one and the others yet.

this is so uncomfortable, the voice acting is awkward, the movements are stiff, the faces on the characters look weird and wrong... i find it so weird that they made the choice to keep the original characters' names when they were just going to make their own show... couldn't they have changed their names to make them less associated with the original rockafire characters? also mitzi sings the song from the hannah montana movie? what an odd choice... i will say the costumes look very cute but i would much prefer if they were on the actual rockafire characters...
Everyone criticising it is only going to make it less likely that they’ll open it to the public again. Imagine if a gullivers manager looked at some of the comments to these videos. Their future already looks dull, all the references to the show has been removed off all park maps and advertising material. They would have kept the names partly to do with the curtain valance across the top, and the fact that no one in the uk taking their child to a theme park would know who the rock afire explosion were, so what’s it matter? All three of the gullivers shows were bought direct from creative engineering, which explains the original hard luck bears masks. This would have most likely been a special request from gullivers, something along the lines of “we want a bear show” to fit in their Disney inspired park. They originally ran rock afire explosion showtapes. Probably due to the fact they didn’t understand how to reverse engineer their programming in the first few years, and the fact Aaron probably sold them the show with material already because he’s not too fond of others programming their own shows. so the names would have been mentioned in the original rock afire tapes, hence the reason they just stuck with it in the gullivers own showtapes.

@@looneycam2762 nope you’re correct, these are the same moulds that were used for the original Hard Luck Bears show. They just have different paint jobs. CEI presumably did this in order to sell more of the surplus shows they still had in the 90s, the first was sold to Gullivers Kingdom in Matlock Bath, the next went to Gulliver’s world in Warrington, this one was next in 1999 along with the mini stage version sold to Okefenokee swamp park that operated as the “okefenokee bear revue”. They all had similar costumes across the 4 sets, and 3 variations of keyboards and 3 different fonts on the signs. This set and the one from okefenokee share the most similarities. Hope this helps anyone wondering

I had an idea to turn this "Hard Luck Bears" to the REAL Hard Luck Bears, see Knoebels, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Playcenter and you will see what I'm talking about. On the center stage, we would need a hillbilly themed background, like a pine forest. Billy Bob would be Billy Wilbur, He wouldn't change that much, just put him on blue overalls. Fatz would be Billy Bill, we would paint his fur grey and his mask beige, put him on a red shirt and jeans, make him face to the left and replace his keyboard with an upright piano. Dook would be Billy Boy, we would elevate him on a cart, paint his fur black and put him on light blue overalls. Beach Bear would be Billy Bob (there was a Billy Bob in the original HLB show, but he played a washtub bass and was skinny), we would paint his fur black, put him on dark blue overalls, remove his guitar and replace it with a washtub bass. On the right stage, we would need a wooden wall background, Mitzi would be Mama Granbags, we would need a new mask for her that looks like Mama Granbags, paint her fur gray and put her on clothes similar to the ones Mama Granbags has, and Looney Bird would be Gooney Bird, with no changes intended. On the left stage, the Smitty's super service station background would be used, Rolfe would be RePete, we would paint his fur brown, put him on blue overalls, remove Earl and attach a long wrench to his right hand and add a rubber chicken to his left hand. And for Pete, we would need another Billy Bob animatronic, replace his mask with Mitzi's retrofit's mask (the mask she has is Pete's mask), remove his guitar, put him on a yellow shirt and a red bow tie, paint his fur black and all done. For the showtapes, we could use the 1979 IAAPA tape, or the Knoebels tapes, or the Blackpool Pleasure Beach tape. There, you will have something similar to the Original hard luck bears. I even have some drawing on how the show could be re-organised.

This show wasn’t exactly “ruined” in terms of the cosmetics, this came from CEI like this (under request from Gulliver’s) but it’s using the original Hard Luck Bears masks. The only thing “ruined” is the knackered voices and showtape they’re playing
This is pathetic. They need to take care of this show bc it is in better condition than Billy Bob’s Wonderland’s show, if they get better sounding people to voice them then it would be great. And fix their movement speed.
Funny enough, they did back in their first appearances at the parks. I think gullivers wanted to make it feel more of a bear show (like Disney) and introduce their own versions of the characters to come off more hillbilly like, and fit in with the theme of the area they’re in. The original rock afire tapes just aren’t for a singular show really, they were made really to continuously play when at showbiz, and the way gullivers are running it is more of a 15 minute performance that has an end to it.

I’m an American-(Half British n Scottish tho) I don’t really see why much people don’t like this’ I think it’s pretty cool and’ They saved the Showbiz Band! Just retrofitted of course! But I mean think about the children lol, The children probably love this so much! And maybe some people grew up with this, I think it’s cool;-;
I actually enjoyed this a little JUST A LITTLE cuz I'm glad they weren't destroyed at least they have one use

Actually yes, fatz used to make me a little uneasy, and I wouldn’t have wanted to get on stage with them.. just a bit unsettling. But do bae in mind at this location, the stage is about 5ft off the floor

I had an idea to turn this "Hard Luck Bears" to the REAL Hard Luck Bears, see Knoebels, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Playcenter and you will see what I'm talking about.
On the center stage, we would need a hillbilly themed background, like a pine forest. Billy Bob would be Billy Wilbur, He wouldn't change that much, just put him on blue overalls. Fatz would be Billy Bill, we would paint his fur grey and his mask beige, put him on a red shirt and jeans, make him face to the left and replace his keyboard with an upright piano. Dook would be Billy Boy, we would elevate him on a cart, paint his fur black and put him on light blue overalls. Beach Bear would be Billy Bob (there was a Billy Bob in the original HLB show, but he played a washtub bass and was skinny), we would paint his fur black, put him on dark blue overalls, remove his guitar and replace it with a washtub bass.
On the right stage, we would need a wooden wall background, Mitzi would be Mama Granbags, we would need a new mask for her that looks like Mama Granbags, paint her fur gray and put her on clothes similar to the ones Mama Granbags has, and Looney Bird would be Gooney Bird, with no changes intended.
On the left stage, the Smitty's super service station background would be used, Rolfe would be RePete, we would paint his fur brown, put him on blue overalls, remove Earl and attach a long wrench to his right hand and add a rubber chicken to his left hand. And for Pete, we would need another Billy Bob animatronic, replace his mask with Mitzi's retrofit's mask (the mask she has is Pete's mask), remove his guitar, put him on a yellow shirt and a red bow tie, paint his fur black and all done.
For the showtapes, we could use the 1979 IAAPA tape, or the Knoebels tapes, or the Blackpool Pleasure Beach tape.
There, you will have something similar to the Original hard luck bears. I even have some drawing on how the show could be re-organised.

This show wasn’t exactly “ruined” in terms of the cosmetics, this came from CEI like this (under request from Gulliver’s) but it’s using the original Hard Luck Bears masks. The only thing “ruined” is the knackered voices and showtape they’re playing
This is pathetic. They need to take care of this show bc it is in better condition than Billy Bob’s Wonderland’s show, if they get better sounding people to voice them then it would be great. And fix their movement speed.
Fun fact: they fully restored Billy Bob's wonderland and it is absolutely stunning

Wow... the progamming makes this show pretty bad. Why did they not use some original Rockafire show tapes...
Funny enough, they did back in their first appearances at the parks. I think gullivers wanted to make it feel more of a bear show (like Disney) and introduce their own versions of the characters to come off more hillbilly like, and fit in with the theme of the area they’re in. The original rock afire tapes just aren’t for a singular show really, they were made really to continuously play when at showbiz, and the way gullivers are running it is more of a 15 minute performance that has an end to it.
