I think it's her response to what she sees as his neglect of her. 9 months into the marriage she was pregnant and now pregnant again. She didn't get the chance to enjoy being a newlywed while having her husband to herself. She needed more of him before she had to give all of her to everyone else. Russell is a little disconnected when it comes to her emotionally.
