  • HM The Queen accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, received Addresses from both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall, London SW1, to commemorate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.
HM The Queen then gave a short speech after the presentation of a stained glass window which is not yet in position and it looked as if HM hadn't been suitably briefed of the situation.

May I say God Save the Queen (this Queen) even if I am Italian ?
I greatly admire this Lady but I'm not so sure to admire the nobles !

The UK and indeed the world is a better place because of this magnificent leader.
I wish "regular" politicans would take a lesson from Queen Elizabeth's dedication and sincerity as head of state.
    Long Live The Queen!

And people seriously talk about abolishing the monarchy and having the Republic of Great Britain? Please. No President could ever fill the shoes of a monarch.
Look at Russia, Libya, Romania, Egypt, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq.. do I really need to continue? A Monarch represents all their people, a President represents all their voters.
God Save The Queen and Long Life The Monarchy.

Bowing and scraping? Where? I saw respect for a tradition that has evolved over nearly 1,000 years. I presume that you're against the notion of bloodline determining respect, yet you oddly bring up that one of your ancestors signed the Declaration. I'm not saying that you are doing this to command respect, but it is interesting comparison. Anyway, anyone born after 1948, before Elizabeth became queen, is a citizen. See the British Nationality Act of that same year.

Even though I am from America, I can only hope that part of our history is carried on by Britain as it is. While it may be true that royalty has a small part in western governance today, it does remind us of our origins and traditions. Once we lose those, more then Europe will lose its base of cultural values. America, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia to name a few, are most influenced by our shared history with Britain. I can only hope that the British people will not do away with it too abruptly.
On that note, I do see the public burden in maintaining what is little more then a figurehead in modern times, as well as the properties, utilities and other expenses. I think we should enjoy the pomp and regality while we still can. It may not last another young monarch's full lifetime in even its current form.

God save the Queen. Long may they both live. What a bolstering entity Prince Phillip has been through her long reign. He is a real man, for God and Country. He is selfless, like a rock. If only all men could take a page out of his book. They both walk with God and are blessed with love and devotion from their family and people the world over. What a pair!

It is best to approach that matter with "kids gloves". The Scottish Ultra-Nationalists do not truly represent the best interests of the many fine people who reside in Scotland; some who are of deep local ancestry and many who are relative newcomers or their immediate descendants. I have seen how small nations get infiltrated and exploited more easily by malicious entities. Her Majesty is Wisely Advised and is Wise In Her Own Right. Reverse Psychology, Watson, my dear!

I'm a bit disappointed since I was expecting a speech like Good Queen Bess' Golden Speech. Hahahaha. Well, cannot expect too much, they have different personality even though they share a same name.

Her Majesty is so fortunate that she still has her husband by her side on her Diamond Jubilee. I'm know her great great grandmother, Victoria, would have loved to have been able to say the same. Well done, madame.

All this bowing and scraping makes me so thankful I am American. As a tourist it is entertaining, but I much prefer "citizen" over "subject"
As for the Union with Scotland, they may choose to make a very similar choice to the one we (I have ancestors who signed the Declaration) chose to make over 200 years ago. The right to self determination is a fundamental one; Scotland (through a contorted political path) chose to unify with Britain, it may now choose to break that union.
