Guys go and buy books!!! The store must survive! People need books! This store is a treasure, is like a sanctuary for the souls! And it is so New Yorkish (in my opinion). This bookstore gives me the feeling that I am in my secret fort, in my secret place in my own world, where every thing is beautiful and well! E-books are good, but nothing compares with holding a real book in your hands! Karla, James and Hudson, I want a live video for their first one hundred anniversary! Love The Strand. It's a family tradition to go there every New Year's morning to shop, although I go there a few times throughout the year. I admit, I haven't been in there this year yet since New Year's and it saddens me, but I will be supporting them on New Year's Day in a few weeks.

Years ago, bookstores were very popular but not many left. Even the big chains went under. .. such as Borders, Walden Books . My neighborhood had The Learned Owl, The Odd Corner , The Secret Attic but times and buying habits change and they closed. Buying online is the rage, but one day this will change when a new way to buy items is developed.
Yes it is heartbreaking D N to see so many small bookstores closing. First due to chain stores and then Amazon and now the Coronavirus pandemic..,,We hope Strand can survive as it is truly a remarkable shop. Thank you so much for watching and commenting as always!

Just diving into some of your archive content guys and came across this little gem 💎 I used to spend an insane amount of time getting lost in the heavenly aisles at weekends or days off. When I returned to the UK to live my baggage allowance was way over mainly due to all the little gems I found here or other smaller independent stores. I still cherish them now. So nostalgic watching you browse the aisles 📚⏺

We are doing well Rodney and hope you are also staying safe and healthy. We can’t even imagine how many books are in NYC as there are not only a number of publishers based in NYC and literary agencies as well as bookstores snd of course all the people private book collections.
I love reading banned books. So funny that there’s a committee somewhere using their opinion to decide what people shouldn’t read. Lol. One of my all time favorites is The Great Gilly Hopkins.
The Strand has such an amazing selection of books including some that are hard to find elsewhere. We always go there before we travel to see if we can dig up some interesting books to read about the place before we visit. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Question. A friend of mine and I ate visiting NYC and know we will each want 50 books! At least. Do they have an elevator? Could we bring a collapsible dolly?
Hi Mafatone, Yes we have an old Technics turntable and a small selection of vinyl that we play. We wish we could collect more records but simply do not have the room to store vinyl in our small studio apartment.
@@JamesandKarla With all of the wonderful radio stations that New York has, you really don't need alot of vinyl to enjoy music. My favorite one was WBAI 99.5. That was a crazy radio station.
I've been to the Strand dozens and dozens of times. Those shelves seem to be in a state of disarray this time. Short staffed I guess? Or perhaps they are not buying to restock sold items? Thanks for sharing.
Yes Jay Senese the shelves were overflowing on the first floor during our visit but in a way, to us, it added to the charm of the place. The upstairs and basement level were definitely more orderly. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and happy holidays to you!
