All these comments are missing the point, she's in an emotional hole, and he's simply trying to snap her out of it. Thats why it seems harsh, but he needs to be her own personal zen master and hit her with the stick. Its empathy- and i think its effective. He can see what she cant/isnt willing to look at. Really insightful!

It’s so interesting to hear what a coach’s advice is because I often wonder what they are trying to say. He seems like a great coach, well from what I heard here. Tennis is all about mindset and he just needs to snap her out of what she was doing before and being a calm focus back to her. Then she can go back on rejuvenated and being clear on what she needs to do.

  • @tennisblood

This is a very effective coaching. He's simply saying: "Girl, you're trying to hit her off the court by using your power through the middle. But she's ready for it and that's why the match is so tight. Time to change. Move her around, corner to corner and come to the net to finish!"

Elena is the athlete and she loves playing Tennis. Not difficult to coach. Elena is intelligent and intuitive. The overall points the coach is making are to be made and done over the athletes' longer term strategic goals implementation and developmental arc. A good Coach builds upon the strengths of his Student from the points where they are at, not by imposing his thoughts and subdueing rhose of the Athlete. Change in an athlete happens over some time but always begins within and specifically within the mind and desire, where games are won or lost. Nurturing a professed athlete's self belief is not that difficult as it is already there and resides and bounces between the heart and mind. A respectful nurturing strategy builds on that through careful approaches and appraisals that acknowledges the athletes innate and existing pluses. This approach minimizes resistance from impositions and allows trust and buy-ins, for coaching is essentially respectful team-work and partnering of persons with and around athletic promise and exhibited potentials. Elena is most distinguishingly top potential and promise; she needs wise accompanyment in the how-to, when, why and what-else departments forward. 🤔🤓

You don't get a player to change by fighting them. Based on the comments, I guess this is a hot take, but this isn't good coaching. You have to make them feel understood, guide them, and have them come up with the solution you want them to find on their own. Only then will they really believe it. Just forcing it at them isn't going to do anything.

The girl has not brought the fire with her it s a grand chelem for fsake and you let yourself and your fan down. You can win sometime beeing cold headed but many times you ll need an 3xtra edge to help you go over the edge and you don t have it right now.Helena game is too uni dimensional, she just hit hard flat balls,no slice, few net games and she misses a lot.She needs a new approach to her games,if she wants to be a real champ.

Coaches can try to get into the mindset of their players and try to empathise so more up close intimate interactions isn’t bizarre. Think you’re reading too much into that. A male coach could touch a male players feet without it being seen as anything more than what you’re thinking. It can just be more a personal one to one trying to lift their spirits for example.

Not a good listener. Always cutting her off, every sentence. Also it's much easier to be tactically savvy in hindsight. Most shots are reactive. Try to give yourself a simple goal of going crosscourt 2 out of 3 times and have someone count for you from the side of the court, without telling you the totals until the end. Then repeat with a goal of 1 out of 4. This assuming you do the same on both wings.
