LOL on the Priory description...I enjoyed it! Took me back to Dragon Prince by Melanie Rawn territory, a 90s favorite :)

Great to hear about your books! The Priory of the Orange Tree is an intimidating size! I read The Tattooist of Auschwitz a few years ago and although I liked it, I wasn’t blown away by it like a lot of people. My favourite part was the author’s note at the end when she talked about meeting Lale; I found that really emotional 🥰📚💜

Honestly four books a month is still one a week and very respectable- and never a need to force a book to be “best” but that’s a good goal and hey we know coming up three musketeers can go there 😂

ahahaha I loved your review of the priory of the orange tree, high fantasy can turn into such a confusing soup of subplots, characters, and world building. I was really interested to see how you felt about it since I see Priory recommended a lot as an intro for non fantasy readers because "it's just the one book" which I've always found a little suspicious as a recommendation. Kudos for finishing the giant fantasy! Lol the Tucci book definitely sounds like something you should not read while hungry! Great wrap up!

😂 Thank you Rosika, hope you are keeping well! 🥰 exactly, that´s why I wanted to read it because it´s just ONE book but oh well....
Oh no... I ate wayyy too much while reading Tucci´s book 😂

I’ve now taken that Matthew Perry book off my wish list as several people have felt the same as you about it.. I liked the tattooist of aushwitz but I can see it’s not for everyone 😊

Lovely wrap up as usual Becky! Also great to get a view of The Tattooist of Auschwitz from someone from Slovakia, I haven’t read it yet but I’ll pick it up some day.

I probably won't ever be interested in reading over 500 page fantasy books 😅. I'm fine with under 400.

"The Priory of the Orange Tree" is such a huge book! I'm kinda intimidated, especially after hearing your review about it. Absolutely loved the editing when you tried to describe the book, though. 😂I heard a lot about "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" but haven't read it yet. You reading this book sounded like me reading books about Austria and Mozart. It's just something different when you come from the country an author is writing about.

Haha oh I am sorry but definitely would encourage you to pick it up, I think you may actually enjoy it!😋
Exactly, it´s always strange to read a book set in your country written by someone who is not from there...

I’ve been meaning to try The Priory of the Orange Tree but hear so many mixed reviews about it. Can’t really think of any standalone fantasy books that I would recommend but plenty of amazing series - I think you should try a series! I’d happily recommend a few! 😊 It’s a shame about the Matthew Perry book because I’ve also heard he comes across badly in it. I’ve not started the Stanley Tucci book yet. I’m excited to try some recipes!

I am currently reading Priory of the Orange Tree. I am a big fantasy reader, so I was really surprised how easy to read it is. People make it seam so difficult all the time, but I am loving it. That said, I totally see that this is not a great introduction into the genre. Maybe you could try something like Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri next, much easier to follow, but I really enjoyed the world and the main character. Happy reading in February!

@@teacupthestoryteller it's part of a duology but you can read it as a standalone since they are companion books. :)

It's disappointing that you didn't love The Tattooist of Auschwitz. It's on my TBR and I've been meaning to read it, but unfortunately many historical books aren't entirely accurate. But I agree that it's so important to remember important stuff in history even if it's hard to read.

I didn't like the Tattooist of Auschwitz at all - I have very strong feelings about it LOL! I guess the book was based on a true story, and I would much rather have had it as a nonfiction book. My problem with the book is that it felt like a simple historical romance story put into a very heart breaking time period - I guess I've read so much about WWII history I can't separate the fact from fiction. I'm not sure I even know how to verbalize this, but since it was written as a love story, it made the Auschwitz experience seem less tragic or cheapened it? I'm not sure.
I know most of the people who have read it have really enjoyed it, so it's likely that I'm not the right audience for this book. And of course the hopeless romantic in me loves the idea that true love survived even through such a brutal experience as the holocaust. If it makes people want to read more about what really happened there and they find the real stories of the people there, that is a good result.

Thank you very much for watching Art and comment. That totally makes sense and I know what you mean. Partially agree, I think it kinda takes the attention only to the "love story" but on the other hand since that was "the main point" of this concrete book I am like...okay fine...but still wasn´t my favourite either. Glad I am not alone 😄

It sounds like a mixed reading month. The Matthew Perry book doesn't sound great. I often struggle with some 'celebrities' because of their attitude towards life and other people.

    • @teacupthestoryteller

Yeah, I am always thinking about this when picking up some celebrity memoir but so far I´ve been lucky...until now 🙈
