Lots and lots of manatees there for sure. I had no idea that so much of Crystal River is a manatee sanctuary. I really do plan on volunteering for the manatee watch program. It would be fun to learn about them and help protect them for the next generation
...another nice trip... thanks... Pro tip on the fishing: constantly be washing your hands with a bar of Ivory soap...touch anything fishing related (like bait, line, reel), with deet and fish can detect it in parts per million...granddaddy tough me that in 1968...still true today..."Clean hands, equal more fish"....scrub your hands, tie on a jig head, scrub your hands, open bag of white curly tails...catch fish...🎣...
Ah, great advice and something I definitely have not been doing. Much appreciated and I'll add a bar of soap to the deck pocket of my kayak. Thanks again and thanks for watching
Found another excellent unknown destination, exploring these little known unused spots is not what people would expect from florida. It's like going back in time- great adventure for sure!
It is nice to be able to get so far away from people while being so close to civilization at the same time. We live in a great spot and there is still so much more to explore
Actually the Nuclear plant was decommissioned. The two coal plants across the street are units 4 and 5 . The have stacks but not much comes out of them . What you see could be 1 of 2 things . Most likely you see the steam from the Cooling towers or exhaust from the newer pollution control units . When I worked at the Nuclear Plant the press always showed a picture of the cooling towers, that had nothing to do with the Nuclear Power Plant lol….. The plant was shut down because it had a crack in the containment wall . And that’s a whole long story 😀
Beautiful sunsets is what its all about! I would love to see a little more on sailing in a kayak. I am going to fab a setup similar to Falcon sails, only because I can't swallow the price of them. As always I enjoy watching your adventures!
I agree, I definitely need to get the sail on and use it more (and will in the very near future). before making your own sail, be sure to watch the video I made where I messed it up. I ended up spending quite a lot of $ for a failed attempt. I hope it works out, but if not, Falcon sails really is a great product, and although expensive, I think it's worth it for what you get. Thanks for watching and commenting again, and once you get a sail on your kayak, maybe we could meet up and do a sailing day.
Thank you, it was a fun trip and relatively easy with calm weather. A good one for you and your channel to try, if you haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for watching and commenting
Great video, Casey. It’s crazy that island seems to be made up entirely of shells. I wonder if it’s man made? I was going to ask if you are still planning on doing the EC, but you answered it in the video. The manatee volunteer thing sounds fun. I was a volunteer at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for 5 years. It was amazing and I learned so much about marine mammals, especially dolphins, and the local marine ecosystem in general.
Wow, 5 years of volunteering is impressive, they must have had a good program. I'm going to go down on Monday and see about getting signed up for the manatee program, hopefully it's as fulfilling and educational as the aquarium was for you.
Enjoy going on your trips. May kayak some of your previous locations. Why aren't you using the Falcon sail ? Another trip you may enjoy is Fisheating creek. (South fla.)
Thank you, and I hope you do :). I didn't bring the sail on this trip because of the forecast for a headwind each day, but I'll start bringing it from now on to mimic my Everglades Challenge setup. Thank you for recommending Fish eating Creek, you're the second person to suggest that place so I'll definitely get it done soon. Thanks again for watching
Most definitely, I plan on doing North Florida next year, hopefully by spring time. There are so many rivers to check out just here in Florida and I also want to do a cross country trip hitting places in each state. We'll see what the future holds but I have a lot of ideas
Sure, this one is a 17' Current Designs Sirocco sea kayak. I'm not sure if the year (I bought it used) but it's more than a few years old. It's the rotomold version and weighs about 60 pounds I think. Great kayak though and with the falcon sails set up it cruises and sails nicely
😊Beautiful scenery. That's one of my favorite places because of the manatees. Enjoyed the video

My wife, laughs at me every time I find wild oranges They’re always sour.
Lol, yeah they look so good but taste so bad :). I took that second one home for my kid to try, and she was not impressed :)
Ready to go fishing in my neck of the woods? Steinhatchee area.

can you describe your kayak for me?
