  • This is videos I have recorded with my telephone while sailing offshore 150 days with Exlex year 2020 and 2021. It is Andreas who lives in Stockholm who has put the pieces together.
    Therefore there is no order.
    In fact the the videos on Fastnet Rock was recorded when approaching Baltimore, my last day of sailing Exlex. He also included the two rollovertests from an early video.
    If you like the videos I can take some more next sailing. Hopefully this TH-camchannel will give me enough donations to continue to build, sail and do more videos.
    See also: yrvind.com for much more about my boats, voyages and adventures.

    Great video!! -- I love your "normal" daily boat-building recordings, but this was a great reminder to us all that you are actually going to sail it someday. I have been wondering what your journey actually looked like in such a compact boat. 'Looks really great. Sails look safer to me than huge ones I am used to seeing. Thanks for sharing this video.

    Two Sven Yrvind videos in one day. That was amazing Sven. The views off the bow of Exlex were fantastic. They were as close to the surface of the water as you can get with out being in the water. Thank you very much. Would certainly enjoy more videos like this. Have a good week.

    This was a great video! Thanks!
    It got me thinking about a deck camera, like a back-up camera or dash cam in a car. That way you could see what's going on topside, without opening the hatch. Or take deck and sea-state videos from the comfort of the warm and dry cabin.

    Sven your a inspiration to this “young” 50 something! I love small boats and love proving the you need at least 40’ crappy made-unseaworthy $$$ sailors wrong. Currently plying the Great lakes in my 17’ er which I plan on sailing Massachusetts to Ireland in 25’ after more sea trials.
    Your design as I have read was inspired by Matt Lydon of Enigma/Pardox fame both those chine-keel boats sport amazing self-righting capabilities. I bought the Paradox plans but will look for a ready to sail one as I have no time to build.
    Are plans for your boat available?

    • @SvenYrvindExlex
      @SvenYrvindExlex  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Paradox is good but Enigma a later design have a better a more seaworthy hull shape if you can scale her up.
      The hatches of Paradox will let in water in a capsize.
      On an ocean passage I like to have a more sturdy boat but that of course will make her more heavy.

    Thanks for sharing that was great! It answers some questions and brings up many more. Do you use sheet to tiller self steering or just steer by hand and drift when tired or will she steer herself down wind?

    • @SvenYrvindExlex
      @SvenYrvindExlex  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No sheet to tiller.
      The tiller is looked rigidly.
      Course stability is done by balancing the sail forces.
      Takes some time to learn.
      But nothing to go wrong.
      The simplest system.
      Using it since 1969 with 2 exceptions.

    I very much enjoyed seeing this offshore sailing. Do you find that big waves obstruct the wind's force on the sails? Does the boat keep its direction if or when that happens?

    • @SvenYrvindExlex
      @SvenYrvindExlex  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not think that big waves obstruct the wind.
      But there is more wind higher up.
      A boats stability is much smaller at the top of the wave often only 50% due to the fact that the wave particles orbital movement creates an centrifugal force always normal to the surface.
      At the top of the wave stability is more at the bottom stability is stronger.
      A cosequence is that the boat heals at the top of the wave. That is due to the centrifugal force not a stronger wind there.

    Translation for the part in Swedish:
    Hello. Yesterday it was dead calm. Today the wind is back. I think it's the 26th of june, 2021. Everything goes well. I'm having a good time. Now the wind is from behind. I'm drawin on the (next) boat, as usual, thinking about how it will be. And I'm reading french books. It's good. Here are the sails, and the boat. Let's see if I can extend this (selfie) stick a bit. This is what's going on at sea. I'm sleeping during the nights. I have an alarm going off every hour. I look at the AIS, to see if there are any ships around. It's quite good here. Hardly any ships. It's nice and calm, just as I want it. At 12:00 (noon) I have the meal of the day.
