Do not, by any means, construe my comment as being critical of the idioms that are used repeatedly in this show. Maybe in their region, the phrase "rabbit trail" is in widespread and common use. I believe it is a variant of "rabbit hole," which is the phrase I grew up with. Going "down the rabbit hole" is a reference to Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" in which Carroll used the phrase as the title of the first chapter. Alice famously falls into a rabbit hole. It has come to mean going deep into a subject although there are other attached meanings. I love hearing idiomatic variants like "rabbit trail" which, in a small way, reflects the dynamic aspect of the English language.
