Face is face, but she is a fantastic singer, she is DIVA and she has fama in the wold. Have in world in moment many new singers in teater´s but don´t sing with emocional interpretacion with fantastic tecnica, but Edita Gruberova for 64 years hat a young voice with a fantastic tecnic with big experience in teater in the world and Edita is Edita but Edita not are a simple singer in the poor teater, but she is singer in the best teater in the world. SHE IS TOP SINGER EVER, BUT SHE IS DIVA.
@gustopheles I totally agree. For example her Roberto Devereux she's got the gestuers and everything. But then again i've seen her in concert do the same "Gruberisms" in concert. Either way, she's a blast to watch.
@gustopheles I meant sometimes she makes odd gestures/faces as she sings. (I don't mean this negatively, most singers have something they do as they sing). But I was surprised to see she's very still in these clips.
@thomastmwc I agree she is a great Diva. I only meant that it is interesting to see some singers use ther 'mannerisms' on stage only, and some in rehersal only. Gruberova does an incredible o luce di quest anima. Great to see singers behind and infront of the curtain.

@magicmonkichi I guess it's because she isn't in character. I noticed a couple of odd faces in these rehearsals, but I know what you mean - especially when she's singing a complex run, or doing a mad scene, she does bizarre things with her face. I kind of enjoy it, though, her level or abandon when she's in a role.
I find this woman still fascinating, even if her Norma in Duisburg a month ago was terrible. She stil has got the high notes, although she seems to have huge problems with her low register and her intonation. I think she can still sing some years, but she should better leave roles like Norma and Lucrezia and sing lighter things. As for Elisabetta in Roberto Devereux we have her earlier performances in this role and we know that she was fantastic, but as the belated Norma she's just ridiculous.
She's wonderful!!!!
C'est trop beau. certaines seraient heureuses de chanter comme Grubé en répets.

the manurisms seem almost non exitant in rehersal...interesting. Great to see the behind the scenes. Thanks for posting ^_^
@magicmonkichi Yeah - I bought the Roberto Devereux DVD just for how brilliant she is in the mad scene. Thrilling to watch.

@magicmonkichi mannerisms? how do you mean they are nonexistent?
@magicmonkichi exactly :)!
@thomastmwc. Sooo what does that have to do with ANYTHING??? This is about music not sexual preference!

@magicmonkichi yes, she has her mannerisms, but so what :P?? She's a prima donna, a real diva
my GOD the amount of scooping why can't she just sing the music?
I bet the pianist at the beginning is gay :P
