In the wrong bracket? lol at a lot of smaller comps you’re lucky to have more than 2 other people in any bracket. I’ve done a whole comp just trying to do ankle locks. Whole comp with no wrestling. It’s called working on stuff in a comp setting.
Idc if you think it's "broadening her horizon" that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard in a competition match.. "don't finish..." that part is the only thing that he said that matters. How dumb can you be to say that in a competition for a medal. What if she doesnt "finish with that", and the other person gets out and finishes her.. just dumb. Idc how confident he is and "knows" she's gonna win
I dunno. I feel like my coaches would have some choice words about having a competitor so ahead of the curve at blue belt that they can pick and choose what submissions to finish. Feels disrespectful and sandbaggy
How is that sandbagging? What if the student is still within 2 years of their blue belt rank but just happens to be real good? Should they just refuse to compete until a lromotion is given?
I’m so lost at this right now. What school is this? Yes I know you have hooks in and full back control, but listen that’s not the way don’t finish the way Gordon Ryan finishes 90% of his matches. Give up the position and give your opponent a chance to recover. Yeah that’s it good job. 😂😂😂😂😂 what a joke
She didn't give up position, she intentionally maneuvered her opponent and maintained control throughout the entire sequence. That's ideally what you want. Not everyone has to rush to get the sub. The coach trusts her to be able to change plans and find something else. It's a good test.
@@Elusive_Peteummm, ok. Well the beauty of being able to discuss difference of opinion. Can we agree she was poorly coached in an actual tournament? My view, she had a collar choke, full hooks and complete back take about to submit and coach said change positions. That’s giving up positions, if she lets go and the other girl turns into her this would be a different match.

@@JVlife22 we don't see the entire match here but maybe it was completely obvious that she was dominating. It would be stupid if it was close and then the coach tells his student to give up position. Clearly that's not what happened because the coach knows his student will maintain control and not allow the escape. I liken it to when I roll with a teen who is half my weight. Rather than just crank out subs with no gain I make sure I can change positions with full control. It's practice. A similar discrepancy was probably evident here where the coach said "you know what, elect to do something else because the risk is low. You've got this." It's all context. @@Elusive_Pete right I’m the same way. I’m ultra heavy and former pro power lifter. So it’s tough for me to roll full send. I do have a couple guys that are strict training partners. @@professorschoicebodyguards5523 My coach always says trying new things is for the gym and competition is for what you know, but it’s nice that it worked out for her
This is a perfect example of a great coach who has assessed the opponent, knows his student's skills intimately, and wants his student to continue advancing and growing in their BJJ journey. She is far better off having a coach like this that will push her, expand her horizons, and push her out of her comfort zone.
Coach knows she has the roll under control and wants her not to settle with an easy submission. He’s allowing her to grow and learn with an inferior opponent.
Great advice for a roll, horrible advice for competition.
“Don’t Win!!!! Play with your food more!!!”
😂
That might be the only sub she goes to to finish and he was trying to get her to use what's in her toolbox instead of a hammer. 🤔
In a comp I’m doing what ever sub comes first. If I’m that confident to pick a sub and risk losing then I’m in the wrong bracket.
What if they’re just terrible and THEY are in the wrong bracket?

So what if they finish with the rear-naked that's one of the most effective choke there is
No sportsmanship. Terrible coaching.
This coach is azzz
Dont finish that choke that would win you the match
I would've laughed if she managed to escape and then won on points.
Terrible advice i compete frequently and i take the sub thats available and easiest
