- Mary Burke's classic appearance from June, 2001 in its entirety, where she became the last contestant on primetime Who Wants to be a Millionaire to win $500,000. Sashinator0 posted the latter part of her run about ten years ago (and I posted the first part). Here's the whole thing in one video.

Mary Burke is one of my favorite contestants. Really impressed with her run. Answered a lot of tough questions.
What a queen. Brilliant performance and I love her voice, too
Same with me
Such a smart lady. And a gutsy one too with $218k gamble on a hat. Another one of my favorite runs
Well she still had the 50:50 assist at the time so at least from my perspective it makes sense for someone like Mary Burke to guess with that kind of chance even if the risk is huge
She's smart as hell and Regis condescended her a good bit and we all know it. She read a helluvalot and it literally paid off
What a brave lady, congrats on the big win
The primetime female winner would've been Mary Burke and syndicated female winner was Nancy Christy.
No college degree, no problem. What an amazing lady!
Shows that you don't need a college degree to be smart, wished some jobs thought that way
Yes! My mom use to be a stay at home mom and wasn’t allowed to go to college.. yet she has the broadest general knowledge of any person I know. You really do not need a college degree or a fancy job to be smart
Dang, she almost had it! Still won huge money however, congratulations to her!
And she would’ve been the first woman on the primetime version to win a million-
Last $500K winner of the original Primetime Millionaire
And the last *female* $500K winner, and true to the video, the last *primetime* person who *could've* gone all the way (Tom O'Brien, Pat Thompson, and Norm MacDonald were the others).
@@gameshowguy2000 Lyn Payne? unless you're not counting the syndicated version of the show
@@markymark443 Lyn Payne did win 500K but on the syndicated version. She would have been wrong anyway.
Thanks to Nancy Christy on the syndicated version.
Yo! So I'm listening to Greed's $500k music. As i am i happened to be scrolling down and saw "$500,000" at the bottom of the screenshot thumbnail! What a creepy_yet-cool synchronicity!
The Gainsborough one is such a troll question, since another famous painting, Ann, features a woman holding a Lute.
what a woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing run !!!!!!!
Mary Burke wasn't the only one to have this type of outcome. Tom O'Brien had this situation encountered on June 11, 2000, and he had the same outcome as Ms. Burke.
As did Norm McDonald (why, Reege?!) and Ogi Ogas.
I remember Ogi Ogas. When he saw the correct answer, he jumped up and down and started getting mad, as his hunch for the right answer was correct.
Pat Thompson was right between Tom and Mary.
Personally I’m more impressed when they are on one of the last questions, are 75% sure about the correct answer, but decide to walk, than I am by someone gambling their way to a million.
Sorry, but "Adam-12" was not a patrol car, it was the radio call-sign for Reed's and Malloy's team. "Adam" indicates it's a two-person patrol, and "12" would indicate the particular beat...except that actual beat assignments used only odd numbers at that time. The radio call was generally "1-Adam-12," with the 1 indicating a downtown-assigned beat, which was another error since they were always working the Rampart Division on the show.
The actual car numbers used, which changed over the course of the series, were 80817, 83812, and 85012.
It's a shame Mary didn't go for the million and win it all. However, it's very understandable why she didn't. For that kind of question, you can't just have a hunch of what the answer is. You have to be 100% confident before thinking about taking the risk at losing $468,000. And $500,000 is nothing to sneeze at.
what a good player. she even got 1 million dollar right, even if she walked.
Did you notice that she knew all answers? Even the answer for the million dollars she knew.
Wow, this is amazing and a slap in the face to all the urban, high degreed, career orientated modern feminists who think they're the smartest women out there. This church going, rural stayed home mother and wife who milks goats, simply knows about everything with humility, softness, and grace.
I feel like this is more of a slap in the face for Regis who kept undermining her knowledge bc she's a stay at home mom. Notice how many times he kept acting surprised that she knows things?
Not one modern feminist have ever thought they're the smartest women but they are clearly smarter than those who dismiss such a movement.
Good societies do not simply require softness, humility, and grace. They also benefit from cleverness, viciousness, and healthy amounts of equality, and for that, feminists are fantastic.
Feminism is not about getting rid of rural stay-at-home moms, but if you have a society where 90% of women are in that category, you have to step back and wonder what markets and taboos are indirectly imposing on people.
I thought it was a hat too. Something about “blue boy” and “hat” sounded good.
Smart, Cute, and lovely voice.. ^^ Good job lady 😁😁
What an amazing lady!
One of the best female contestants on the show by far. She was both intelligent & knowledgeable (& somewhat pretty in my opinion). Even when she wasn't sure of the answer, her guesses were correct. That's good instincts.
Had you put her to the $500k club yet?
Wow first time I knew the answer of a million dollar question.
👍
17:20
*REGIS PHILBIN: IT'S A HAT! 😲*
*HIRO HAMADA: YOU ARE CORRECT, MARY BURKE! 😄*
*HIRO HAMADA #14: ⭐ (CORRECT!)*
17:20 It’s a hat!
what a beautiful woman and such great smile plus she would have won a mil if she went for it 🔥💪🏻
So that means (unless I'm forgetting a celebrity player somewhere) that Ed Toutant was the last contestant to see a million dollar question, period, in the 1999-2002 primetime run of WWTBAM. Exactly as I'd thought.
And Tom O'Brien was the first contestant who *would've* been right. Then Pat Thompson, then Norm McDonald (why did you do that, Reege?!), then Mary, then Ogi Ogas (at which point they no longer lit up the post-mortem answer in orange).
Also Pat Thompson
I would have gone with either Rowing or Sailing on that particular Million Dollar Question.
You forgot the Double Dip.
Her voice is damn too small that I have to turn my headphones to the loudest volume possible.
Upgrade your browser to HTML5.
I upgraded it before.
She’s just a soft spoken woman
🗣🎧🎚
yeah i have it maxed out but she's nice and loud.
Can’t believe she blew her chance like that.
Is it weird that I found the $250K question easier than the $1K-$125K questions?
Not at all. The game is only easy if you know the answers
As far as I remember, if she had gone for it on Rowing, she would have been Rowing her Boat down the $1 Million Stream.
Nancy Christy, all solo.
Yeah that's in the video.
You happen to have Eddie Timanus's game?
Eddie Timanus? Is he the blind guy that was on Jeopardy?
1981lashlarue yes
Cool. I didn't know he was on Millionaire too. I remember when I was a kid watching him on Jeopardy. For some reason I can vividly recall him and Frank Spankenburg when they were on the show. I always liked Eddie. Seems like such a nice guy.
And for the Phone-a-Friend, Meredith read the question and the answers, and also told him how much time he had left on that 30-second clock.
Mary Burke should've been the female millionaire, following UK contestant Judith Keppel winning the top prize, on the US version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
And also according to WWTBAM Wikia page, Regis Philbin
has been yet to crown a female millionaire. It was Mary Burke.
@@yisheng3634 Yeah the only female 1m winner on US WWTBAM was Nancy Christy, there were at least 4 or 5 $500k female winners though. Perhaps next month some celebrity will be the second, who knows.
She's trivia smart ..I knew a few people like this
19:42 *Ohhh No!*
❤❤❤ you go girl ❤❤❤
I would have narrowed it down to B & D for that million dollar question.
Mary Burke, a very Irish name. She also named her son Sean, meaning John, in English, which is another common first Irish name. Her daughters name Rachael or Rachel is common in Ireland too but does not originate in Ireland. So I'm guessing Mary has close ties with Ireland.
@ 19:38---Do I have to take a guess? No.
"goats are pretty smart"
Ken Jennings is the GOAT.
Nancy Christy was the first and only female to become a millionaire which Mary Burke would've been, but she left her all alone.
parabéns
He helped her, which is nice.
19:43 NOOOOO!!!!
well done mary ,,,made the right decision, to lose 418,000 if she was not certain would have been madness...... mind you the million would have been nice
From reading my Olympic history books I knew the $1 million answer. Too bad she didn't have a lifeline left to phone me.
You milk…HIM? 🤮
(Or was it 'em?)
Spoiler alert, she makes it to at least 500k.
Shouldn’t have choked or hesitated
She will not go for it
19:40 ROWING WOULDVE BEEN RIGHT FOR A MILLION DOLLARS
19:40 cpuld have gotten it right for millionare
19:40 ROWING WOULDVE BEEN RIGHT FOR A MILLION DOLLARS
