The engine sounds like a Detroit diesel 2-stroke but if it is the original engine, it should be a straight six, 4-stroke by either MAN or Renault. Peculiar. I wonder if the engine has been replaced with a 6V-53T on this particular vehicle?
@@CorentinBrusque This engine would most likely be the GM 6V-53 of about 215 hp, or possibly the more powerful, turbocharged version of the engine of about 260 or 275 hp. Your info is very interesting. I have read everything I could find about the VAB series, including the series of three booklets by Stefan Marx, and nowhere did I see mention of such a prototype. It is however not surprising that Saviem experimented with this engine during the development of the VAB series, in the early seventies. The GM 2-stroke engine was an extremely popular and important engine at that time, being fitted to the US M113 APC, amongts others.
