Pyramiden, the tour ashore was certainly very nicely videoed. Isolated and I can't imagine mining coal there was an exciting occupation, yet we appreciate your effort in presentation and can't wait for your next episode.
Hi Fredrik. At 8:40, I'm wondering ... when I look at your genoa with the wind coming from behind like this, if you were to ease the sheet by 10 or 15 cm you might get a bigger curl in the sail and perhaps an extra knot of boat speed. I can't remember who, but one of our subscribers said the same thing to me and when I tried it, wow! 🙂 It worked so well. The lower tell-tales immediately started to behave properly and the speed increase was immediate. Good fun. Thanks for these videos. I see that you hired one of the Mauser K98 rifles, seized from the German army at the end of the WWII. Chances are it had been re-barrelled to 30-06 calibre. I haven't watched all of your Svalbard videos yet, but I hope you didn't have to scare any bears away with it. The noise from that rifle would hurt your ears too!
Thank you for the trimming tip 🙏, we will definitely try it next time, for sure we have more to learn about trimming the sails 👍. Is it WW II, we though it was WWI, it seemed so very old 😂 😂
@@bushpoint Yep, that's a WWII Mauser. The Germans used an earlier version of the Mauser 98 rifle in WWI, which had a much longer barrel. You wouldn't have wanted to carry that one around. So did you actually fire it at all? I hope the gun shop gave you some training on how to load it and release the safety, in case you needed to fire it. A few years ago a British teenager in a school group that was camping somewhere in Svalbard was killed by a polar bear. The perimeter alarms did not work. One of the group leaders was unable to shoot the bear because he or she did not know how to switch the safety off! Eek. All of the cartridges from the magazine ended up on the ground. Another leader picked some up, loaded the rifle again and fired it. I don't know what happened to the bear. Regards, Rick.
I'm a number one fan, you talk about history, culture, navigation, places and nature. I really like
Thank you so much for you kind words 🥰, don't know what to say, but we are glad to have you onboard.
Another great episode. Wishing you more well deserved viewers
Thank you very much! You might have been heard, the subscriber numbers are coming up 👍 😃
Love your videos! Keep it up. You don’t need a gun, you just need to run a little faster than someone else in your group!
Darwin would had agreed with you theory 😂

"31 марта 1998 года выдана эта последняя тонна угля рудника Пирамида"
On March 31, 1998, this last ton of coal from the Pyramida mine was issued
Thank you for the feed back 😃
Den Norske allemannsretten is valid in Svalbard - so no fee for beaching a dingy...
So true, but Pyramiden was a strange place!
The mix seem to mostly go in the negative direction :D
😃
Gypsum. Must be “gips” or “kalk” in Swedish
Yes, you are so right 😃
